DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: This will not end well...
« on: October 21, 2009, 01:09:12 pm »
It means they must have grabbed some stuff out of your wagon when you weren't looking. I always enjoy the kobold raids, because you will always underestimate them. Plus they are easily appeased. When I was anoyed by the amount of goblin cloth I kept getting I set up a little hut for the kobolds to take from, as a sign of good will. sadly I don't think many kobolds survived my offerings.

I never payed to close atention to the crotch or legs before :D I like the way the helmet looked even if it was an error. that face and beard will take some getting used to after becoming used to what they looked like before.

goblins are granted eternal life by the dark ones they serve. since they serve them directly. same thing for elves... excepted instead of dark ones its more green and brown ones that give you a rash.

Dwarves have gods, but they don't really give a hoot what they want. and the others fit into the general lower humanoid cast on par or lower then humans.

DF General Discussion / Re: ☼Orb Spider Silk Cloth☼
« on: October 20, 2009, 09:44:52 am »
there are so few types of spiders that are dangerous to humans that, if you are worried, you should easily be able to learn what those spiders look like. however i dont think the earlier posts were a fear based on the possible danger of spiders, but a simple bigotry against all things that skitter.

back to the silk topic, I made an amazingly strong string out of a tent worm nest just for fun by twisting it. now if someone had divided the threads and woven them, it would be amazingly durable. The brittleness of the spider-silk can be off set by braiding many strands together. You will still have amazingly thin threads and the durability will go through the roof.

so far I've seen no one try making the different zerg based on weapons for the entities (broods).

Wrestlers profession name changed to Zergling
Crossbow/bow zerg name change to Hydralisk
sword becomes... Devouring one?
so on and so forth, making custom weapons.

It should then appear as something like Ke'tas Zergling

I will, It will be a full plug an play copy when Im finished, sadly he finally rested enough to punch a hole in one of the other kobolds brain and the wounded butcher bled out, the giant died and finaly, I am left with 4 kobolds about ready to tantrum due to the draft and "annoyed by someone", and a happy kobold with a grudge against everyone! and an enjoyed slaughter lately thought.  :-\ and due to a fail on my part to save it when it was going well (relative) I would have to begin again at the point just before the troll starts chasing the butcher.

this will migrate over once its been ironed out, kobold camp is so much harder then DF at the start :o

well it looks like Im going to look for another site anyway, because this one has just turned into a very strange sloppy orgy.

7 kobolds vs 1 Giant = all 8 of them are over exerted and even with chpers shovels and bows they have only gotten one red wound on the guys leg that will probably heal before more damage is done. this shouldnt have happend because I had a cage trap on the only path up, but the liason decided he needed my attention and when I got through with him the giant was standing in the baraks pounching an unconcious Bold who had a broken foot from when I had to kill the troll on the front door. it has now been ten minutes of non changing battle, exceped now all the unarmed bolds have wrestler.

oh, who wants year two? just thought this thread deserves first dibs on the formative years

Edit: this is odd... I usualy get worlds where Obsidian is the primary stone, now I cant find any  >:(

It's probably their higher natural armor due to smallness? I dunno.
I just messed up my scout run of the site by pissing off the resident by accident. and I think the deciding factor is their speed. they seem to make their enemies be over-exerted much easier then other races.

I have found that kobolds are actually more capable then most creatures when swarming an enemy. trained up they are good, but I have killed megabeasts with the starting seven before with no added training and only a few red wounds. Dwarves just dont do that for some reason.

Also, found a better one 7xsomething Mata Standtakes the Absolute Competition is the current resident along with the standard trolls. chasm hidden pit and HFS pond near embark, brook at top corner of the map, sort of far but existent. lots of Undead trees, no apparent undead creatures at this point. I think this will be the spot, can be accessed by all civs.

Its the best one Ive found worth its salt. had one better 7x5 problem was it had no trees, and the watter was from a brook on the other side of a chasam, and the arrival site was on the end of the chasum, so ... troglodytes.

also the resident is an enemy of an entity called The Muscular Fellowship, I can just see a bunch of body builders coming to exact their revenge for the stolen wild strawberry (the cause for the enemy status)

I know, Im cycling the world gen thing to find a better one, but caves count as towns or the like, so its hard to find any sites near them let alone in a haunted biome. I understand the issue with it hence the emote. if I find a better one I will swap out.
