DF Modding / Re: Murlocs, Oh God...
« on: September 15, 2009, 11:13:35 am »
Trogg is shortened version of Troglodyte, which DF has. and I never quite enjoy fantasy settings having evolution for the magical races. I prefer the "Dwarves grew out of solid stone at the creation of the world" theory. It also makes humans that much more mundane and fun cause they are the only civ that evolved to sentience hence generally being looked down on by the magical races.

I'm pretty sure Murloks are a fairly blatant rip off of Morlocks, and the Murloks in DF are acting simmilar to the ones in WoW, and would probably be exact if WoW didn't have the meandering foe play style that most MMOs have nowadays.

Its always anoying when people hate on games without actualy playing them at all, Play the Strategy games of the warcraft series also, I recommend WCII it was very well done. For WoW they actualy over wrote their own lore to make some quests sound more fun.

But back to the Murlocks, What specifically makes the kobolds such a small civ? Murlocs should have a civ that is small like that, except not be located in caves.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Island for you!

This Island is so strange, it rains ALWAYS! It simply does not stop. Ive noticed a few dwarves pause out in the open some times with the Task of drink. they are drinking water off of themselves instead of booz! If only their was HFS this would be a true test against the SoF

if you are going with Black mat for the battle how about SoF? they fill every dwarf, scratch that thing(I have battled them in Kobold Camp), with fear. Plus they give ample oportunity to have fun with lighting.

I just played the island from page one, and it was beautiful! Groundhogs frolicking to the east, a pack of majestic wolves to the west, my project is coming along nicely, then winter comes. I am worried about ice, but no freezing occurs.

then mid winter comes along, the south east and northern portions freeze. and on the ice sheets flit fairies! tons of them, this place is magical and beautiful I say to myself.

then sudenly I get the messages:
A miner has been encased in ice
A Muskox has been encased in ice
the miner was the only one who had the Lover Relationship yet, I gasp and am deeply saddened by the loss, then I notice all the animals make their way to the end of the brook and ford it onto the ice. I begin to worry that they will all drown. but the worry is undounded because they migrate off the edge without a care. all 15 wolves and pups along with the 6 groundhogs and pups leave. now my six remaining dwarves sit alone on the island. utterly alone.

Its made extra sad by all three of my cats sudenly becoming strays :'(

Wrestling weapons use the Mining tag I think

downside of this is, the unit can now dig. this may also be a plus.

It would be better if you didn't cut down any trees at all. I tried modding the use of special grown plants (produced in farm plots) for smelter reactions to make the weapons. I eventually abandoned that mod due to being inexperienced as well as having trouble with an Item I was using for wooden constructions called Natures Bounty. Basically a Wood Block made at the smelter, original from bone, wood, chunks, meat, plants. but I couldn't get it to work properly (see above inexperience) and also was unable to make it so other races couldn't use the stuff.

Elestra was also probably an artifact weapon due to its name. hence a major damage modifier is tacked on which more then compensates for it being wood.

I like to think of Elves as being if not completely, very similer to fey, so forged metal would be unhealthy for them to touch for extended periods causing rashes and such. I think it works fine then using only wood and it being 50% damage because they are a social race not a warrior race as demonstrated by their leaders being Druids. I like the Idea of them magically coaxing (with help from the Forces, or natural Magicks) a tree into growing their weapons.

I actually started a mod a while ago to make playable elves, turning the smelter into the druids hut and trying to make them produce weapons from plants (Eg: Blade Tree sprout -> Wooden Blade) I have left it alone for quite some time, maybe I should pick it up again. I was having a problem with the reactions being only available to the elves and many other things.
