X-com 1 & 2 cannot be played on vista. It's a directdraw issue, old programmers used to jack in all wrong and they kept backward compatibility with crazy named functions til vista where they decided, no more backdoors. So there you go, no badly programmed dd games in vista. Unless someone actually remakes it, no x-com. I think Steam's just like gametap's.

You can dosbox it however.

Both OF and IL2 are amazing. My fav games are all oldies however, x-com 1 to 3, darklands, daggerfall, ironseed, hard nova, noctis, star trail, stronghold, etc etc etc

Notice they are all fucking complex game that while they can be played casually, they require at least some level of thought.

Not to say I don't like shooters, but I like the ones with tactics over one-man-armysm.

Man. They need to come up with better demos. Not like they will lose anything. People will always pirate games. A good demo will lower piracy. Think about it. Most pirates who pirate to demo just end up keeping it because of the natural human instinct of "Why buy something that I already own?"


I buy games I actually enjoy, have they got online content or not, but I'm aware I don't represent the majority of people who make use of warez. The best way to fix that is to come up with better online content. Shareware is also a good thing. So are things like Anarchy Online where you get to play the game for free, but you buy/subscribe to have the expansions.

I've played it today for a couple hours, pretty fun. Too bad you don't have actual control over the cap ships, besides taking control points. Might be able to use a turret or something, I just don't know.

C has structs which are similar to classes to a certain extend. They probably inspired the whole class idea. I prefer using a mix of both, there are things which global functions do better than silly classes. In my opinion of course.

I should upload the source code for my pathfinding algorithm, I'm sure you guys could make use of it.

X3 is very sandboxy as well, but you really need to the patches and mods for it to be actually fun and playable. I played it with keyboard + mouse just fine.
