ok I already killed the owner (applied magma to him, with little to no repercussions as he wasn't friends with anyone) but when I go to the animal screen, I still can't select it for butchering :(

help? oh and don't say apply magma as my magma death chamber is quite far from my main fortress in this case.

hey Phazer, what graphics set are you using? I want to use it.

Also to be on topic, in one fort I got ambushed just as the caravan was reaching my fortress. the caravan guards went to attack it and one of the ambushing gobs was sent back quite a bit.

what type of stone do you have? the ground near a magma pipe is usually obsidian, if you find that then dig down 2 z-levels

Wait... What?

*Facepalm*

Well I had thought that the well bottom needed to be 1 z-level below the actual well and this one fort had a brook a few z levels below the entrance so, I build and aqueduct of windmills, pumps and walls to get the water up to my desired z-level. I have pics somewhere around:

Can they path to your dwarves?
If no, open a path, they'll start charging.
my floodgates are open and my bridge is down so yes they can get in the fort (they could if it wasn't for the traps)

Edit: huh, seems there was another squad and I didn't notice it

during my trade depot experiment, I get besieged by 2 goblin squads. the first one is either dead or captured. but the second one sits by my bottomless pit waiting for something.

I WANT THEM TO CHARGE BLINDLY INTO MY TRAPS SO I CAN END THIS SIEGE

If this hasn't already been suggested, just build lever-operated bars to the entrance of each Depot. Maybe you could 'steer' certain traders if you're quick enough with the levers.
already done. have bars to my Elf Slayer 2.0 (which exposes elves to 'solution to everything') and my bridge/floodgates for my main one

I'm thinking that the dump tag for the second one had something to do with it will experiment with it (will try forbidding one depot when the season changes and watch what happens)

There's your problem, more than one depot confuses traders, deconstruct one of them and the problem will be solved.
well I need the one in my main entrance so that the human and dwarven caravans can trade with me. but I have ways of controlling which Depot they go to (i.e.: retract my bridge or close my floodgates to close off my main entrance, or close the bars blocking the depot to Elf Slayer 2.0)

well the elfish caravan had just decided to leave but my bridge retracted at the worst possible moment, leaving them stuck. I extend the bridge then retract it again. this time several elves were on the bridge when it retracted and they fell into my moat of "solution to everything", they promptly die upon hitting the surface of the moat.

it was so funny
