DF General Discussion / Re: The DF 0.31.04 Work-In-Progress Thread
« on: May 17, 2010, 07:39:03 pm »
Edit 4: Even with 7 idle dwarves at embark, i get abysmal Framerates (~40, interface jerkyness almost unbearable) compared to 200+ on 31.03. Why do you hate my computer?

You don't have any idea of just how much I envy you that your computer is good enough for you to be able to consider 40 fps abysmal. Sure, on my desktop, I usually get around 250 fps too and that's good, but on my laptop, 25 is the norm (even in the previous version). And it's still fairly playable, I'd say. I also haven't experienced anything that could be described as "interface jerkyness", maybe it's an unrelated issue.

You kidding me?  I've put myself through 1 - 2 fps for regular DF games, hours spent watching my dwarfs going to the stockpile and then drinking for hours.

Some people don't realize how good they have it...

DF General Discussion / Re: Real-world information in the Wiki?

I would say that the work you did at the bottom of the first page was great.  I would love to have that additional information in the wiki, and I like it labeled as such much better you can quickly get some real world facts about things that are not particularly well known.

If Toady doesn't get another bit by the end of next year, his age counter will rollover to zero!

It's not a problem of figuring out how not to make things collapse, it's a problem of Toady having to write code which would, pretty much be guarenteed to cause considerable lag during gameplay.  That is of course, unless Toady really puts some considerable time and effort into coding something amazing which right now, I don't think he's to concerned with.  He's got a lot of stuff he's juggling right now.

All of them, but I voted world gen, since thats one of the features of DF that intrigues me the most.  When I'm bored I often gen a world and read that legends, there are some hilarious things in it.  I love the names they give weapon stores.

DF General Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress Talk #3: Your Questions!
« on: September 02, 2009, 08:19:48 am »
Just seemed like an appropriate question.   :)

Do you think later on that it will be possible (or practical) to use items (money, jewelry, small stones off the ground...) as a wieldable weapon in adventure?

Also... Do you think gods will be able to craft legendary items of worship which could possibly form the basis for sub religions or something like that?

I would have loved to have seen the self targeting thing.

This was a great idea, it's very interesting to hear what Toady has to say in person as well as in the dev now.

DF General Discussion / Re: Post your t-shirt ideas!

I actually think a good t-shirt would be a simple copy of text from the game adventurer or fortress.  I'm bland but it would please me.

Cool! I have lots of new things to try out.  Thanks for everyone who posted.

Hmm, I thought a bit about that I suppose it would be a lot easier and wouldn't require setting up a physical server.

I'll look into samba then.  Also, good response.

I just had this interesting idea for a project and wondered if other people had thought of this or maybe tried it.  I was thinking of networking my Linux computer to my Windows computer with a server between the two, when I played Dwarf Fortress on one of them and hit the [Esc] > save game, it would save the game to the server where the data is stored, then when I was using my other computer and wanted to play I could just open that directory and get to my fortress that I was recently playing.

This way I could keep the one game constantly updated rather than having to move the game around on a thumb drive, or having multiple copies on each computer running different games.
