I'll have to start my third year tomorrow, I haven't started yet.

EDIT:

Ok well I just started playing again, everything was going nicely.  Suddenly, AMBUSH!  I checked up on my military, and saw that my leader somehow got her arm chopped off while sparring and is in bed...  She is still ecstatic, having acquired "minor" injuries and thinks that she had a satisfying sparring session...  I realized that the goblins were headed straight for my unprotected entrance.  As soon as I saw this  and my dwarfs were inside, I ordered a wall to be built there.  It was, but my mason was trapped outside.  he quickly made a made dash for the protected entrance, and the goblins also made their way for this entrance.  He made it inside and three of the goblins were caught in my cage traps, the other two bumbled around by the entrance while my dwarfs tried to take the cages away, however the goblins by this point realized they were outnumbered and began to make a getaway for the edge of the map. Meanwhile I had several dwarfs running around trying to find the entrance to the fortress (the goblins were standing by the entrance so the dwarfs that came to set the cages, ran straight outside to escape them, and had no way to get back in so they just panicked until the gobbos left and I gave the all clear).

The threat is gone, but now I have to figure out what to do about this injured leader.

The goblin attack was perfect timing too!  I just have ordered my dwarfs to build a goblin free fall tower for execution, it's only four levels but soon should be the tallest point on the map.

You should build a second entrance filled with traps, and a locked door on it.  Then when you get attacked  you can open the doors and close off the main hallway with the traps that have been seen.  Kind of interesting to think about.

"Heheh, we know where those dwarfs traps are this time! We won't be fooled.
Hmm, the entranced is blocked off, better go around...  I don't remember this hallway OH GOD! Men, stop trudging through all of those traaaaps!"

I'd just embarked to a site with lots of Limonite (which sadly is the first time I've encountered any, so it was extra awesome for me).

I started out nicely with an entrance that would be easy to defend (due to the naturally occurring funnel in front of it), dug out some farmland, set up my trade depot and then...

Stepped away from the computer without pressing pause.

It kept running in the background for quite a while because the fortress attracted no immigrants during the first season. When I came back all my booze and food was gone and had been for quite a while (I'd embarked with minimal amounts for the added challenge).

My brother's a Somethingawful goon.  It can get very . . . intense there.  Not as nice a forum as this one, according to him.  They did bring us Boatmurdered, though.

On topic, I added "Boatmurdered" to my Firefox dictionary.

There are a lot of nice forums out there and a lot of terrifying ones.

I'm a bit of a /b/tard, which is usually considered worse then a goon.  But I keep my /b/ and my bay12 / all other forums separate from each other and thank god.

...when I enter a building, I admire how well made all of the rooms and walls are constructed, and how much room there is in them!

...I also mince wine with wine and call it Biscuits!

The best part is, no-one has any objections to him throwing puppies into magma. Instead they just give advice on what to now do to the puppy.

This is what playing DF turns you into  ;D.

Actually for me, when I butcher kittens I don't feel very bad and dish them out without remorse, probably because kittens are so humorous and with all the lolcat's, I can't really take them seriously (not that I don't love cats).

But when I slaughter puppies I sometimes do feel bad :(
I don't actually kill puppies anymore, and it's not because I feel bad for them, it's that they make great war animals, and I always have a need for wardogs.

Oh, and about 3Dwarf... my computer does not have internet, so how am I supposed to import maps? Putting core.xml files in /conf is all I know, but where do I find those?

Have pity, I am risking looking stupid for asking... :-[

Oh, and sorry for the double post.
I find this highly unlikely.

Haha I thought the same thing, I think what he means is his computer he uses for playing DF is not connected to the internet.

If I'm right, then you could transfer your data through a thumb drive or burnt CD.

I believe there's a bug where a creature landing on top of another creature becomes temporarily invincible. Since you mass dumped your puppies, I suspect this is what happened.

I actually keep a very close eye on all of my shops, almost obsessively checking to make sure there isn't something that could be done, or anything on repeat that is interfering with normal production.

Aaah, all our dwarfs are turning into elfs, making jewelry! But I must say, that ear ring is probably the most dwarfy ear ring I've ever seen.  And the ring's pretty cool, although I'm not sure I would want to wear it  ::)

I like the suicide booth ideas, sounds great!  I always make ballista suicide booths, which are more like homicide booths.  Ballista set on fire-at-will, and the noble pulling a lever repeated right in front of the ballista...

I'm wondering when we'll get our first siege.

I noticed that hunters have extremely short attention spans.  What I mean is that they will go out and kill an animal, and then while carrying it back drop it when they see another animal and run off to kill it without returning.

But it doesn't sound like that's your problem.

I missplaced my ballista, facing straight to my fort entrance. It was covered in rocks so I didn't notice...
I noticed after 6 dwarfs died and my siege operator got skill increase.

Haha, don't worry about it it's fine.  It was just getting kind of far back, so I wanted to make sure it was still all good.
