I am tired as fuck if seeing both sets if you losers build up castels if sand around your goddamn "sexual identities" and "religious faith" hysteria.  You always, and I mean this the fullest way possible, and for both sets if people, act in the most disgustingly divisive, hypocritical, and shameless fashions possible while acting holier than thou from on high, then jump straight for the fucking victim card the moment the tide changes.

If you spent even half the time learning to actually love each other instead of demonizing and castigating each other, we wouldn't fucking be here right now, with a dangerous idiot holding the nuclear football.

Fuck.
wierd! Good God man, you can't just ride a high horse up onto the moral high ground like that! You'll die of asphyxiation!

I want nothing more than to just cry about it, but I actually cannot, I am so thoroughly indoctrinated into my masculinity that I cannot even conceive of acting outside of it.

Relatedly:

I listened to Leonard Cohen's song 'You Want It Darker' last night and found myself crying uncontrollably.

I've never listened to Leonard Cohen before.
He's a good one for that, is Cohen.

Was Cohen.

*pokes head in thread* Nothing got changed or removed seemingly? So, locked out of precaution? *is confused*
Vendayn caught the banhammer; probably related.

It's dumb 'cause it won't really change anything.
The statement itself is still important though. "A racist sexist huckster got elected president of the US, so we got out and protested to show how much we thought it was bullshit" vs "A racist sexist huckster got elected president of the US, and we just kinda said 'eh'". I'm all for people putting the bulk of their effort into things that matter more, but protests are very visible and visibility counts.

Yeah, there's, like, valleygirls too?!

Why not Elizabeth Warren 2020?

But let's be real here, DNC will force in Hillary again.
hah! But seriously no, this is her second go-round and she just lost it to an unwinnable candidate. Even the DNC isn't that stupid.

Incidentally, Gabbard/O'Malley (maybe Webb but he's old) 2020 yo. A fresh, sane, clean cut young woman who happens to be a fucking Army Major who's damn sick of our soldiers getting shot up,
Huh; had not heard of Gabbard before. Welp, there's my 2020 ticket filled out already! Gabbard and Duckworth, in either order. They could get together beforehand and plan a great primary, along the lines of "yep, we're gonna be on the same ticket either way; just leaving it up to the Dem voters who gets to helm it". Cut down on attack ads and talk policy instead. It'd be amazing. I might just... might just go to bed until then. Only 4 years away!

A list of enemies sounds incredibly Nixonian. Though it's one thing to remember who stayed loyal to you and who weren't loyal, it's another to do the same and actively go after those people......

Anyhow, now that the Democrats are effectively without a leader and Clinton has pretty much stifled any rising stars, at least any with presidential ambitions, any ideas who the next possible rising stars candidates for 2020 might be?

Kamala Harris might be one, but it'd be better for her to get a few senate terms under her belt.
Obama. In 4 years from now, people will want Obama back.
and we can't have him
I understand why Michelle Obama doesn't want any part of politics, but goddamn I would be willing to kill someone if it would get her to run for potus.

...there's always Tammy Duckworth. She's pretty popular, and has some national name recognition. Illinois can supply all yer Dem presidents, no problem >_>

I should write the Tao of Strife or something, because it's really strange to see the sheer, hilarious, caricature-level panic that's on campus right now. It could be worse. We're not at the end of the Republic, although there's some chance that we can see the end from here. However, there's always the chance that the end is visible from where we sit.
Fuck everything else, social progress and whatnot; we're at a point in moving to combat climate change where every month matters. And that will, at best, be put on hold for the next 4 years. At worst we'll get a new subsidized boom in the fossil fuel industry, along with abolishment of previously set carbon reduction targets and programs, and screw things over even harder. It's not something you or I will likely see beyond some sea-level rise and increasingly powerful hurricanes, but there's a good chance that this new administration is gonna fuck the planet over right proper for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

What I'm saying is, invest in offworld colonies. It's humanity's only hope now.

Heh, I was just gonna post this. For those of you here with disposable income, remember that for better or worse money speaks louder than votes these days.

...aaaaaaaand back to getting miserably drunk.

PPE:
For a while the right was called regressive, so the "regressive left" is the equivalent to the argument "You're stupid!" "No, you're stupid!"
More like 'left that goes so far around it looks a lot like the far right' s tactics'.
WHich is a fun way of glossing over the actual substantive differences, and feeling morally superior whilst so doing.

The whining.

The president isn't a dictator. The House and the Senate have had disagreements with Trump, and trump in 1998 also said he would ever only go GOP because that their base s so easy to lie too.

We survived Bush, we may be comfortable under Trump.
Though pence can go fuck himself.
The reasonable fear.

The president's party - a group of extremists that gutted the Republicans and now wears their skin like a cape - has control over both houses of Congress. The remaining Republicans will fall in line, either because they want a piece of his active base or simply because that's what they tend to do.

We survived Bush, we may watch as Trump causes irreparable long-term damage via SCOTUS nominations and the rolling back of climate change targets.
And Pence can go fuck himself.

So the answer is to wait for greater and greater polarization until everyone is a radical and hope that the 'correct radicals' are the ones with greater numbers at the end of it?
Nah the answer is to wait until the radicals have consolidated power, then wait for them to die out and be replaced by new generations with new ideas
That's usually how it goes anyways
And by that time, a generation or two down, maybe large parts of the earth will still be habitable.

Godspeed, misko. It's hellish work, but someone's gotta do it. And there's only so many retirees to go around =P
