DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Krazy Kobolds
« on: July 06, 2009, 12:53:01 pm »
I ran a world gen for 10,000 years and then embarked on a cave that a kobold group has lived in for about 99950 of them. I didn't think to take a picture before I binned the stuff up, but we're talking about almost a million dwarf bucks of stuff here, just laying around. Needless to say, I had no difficulty purchasing my first anvil.
An interesting aside, this cave also was inhabited with about 10 named alligators from history that ate over half of the kobolds within a minute of me arriving. It was pretty cool.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Paralyzed
« on: July 04, 2009, 11:28:39 am »
In my world I visited a town during the night, stole all the best armour and weapons and at dawn, battled all comers before finally a husband/wife crossbow team whos two children I had killed came out of their house, crossbows blazing. I had stolen a crossbow and returned fire, blinding the wife, but I had been hit several times in my arms and legs and had to fall back. I was able to leave the town. The next night, I returned. Walking with purpose, I entered the home on my two crossbow enemies and their one remaining child. Intending not to kill them, but to humiliate them, I dropped my shield to free up my left hand to gouge the eyes of the sleeping husband. As soon as I grabbed his head; BANG.
While SLEEPING, the husband fired a bolt that in addition to blinding me, paralzyed me (I have a brown brain wound and a yellow neck wound; not sure which one paralzyed me). Anyways, I lost possession of my sword do to my paralysis and could only attack by pushing. The angry husband slowly shot me to pieces in the middle of his house. Anyways, I remember a few weeks ago some people were asking about paralysis; this is an example of it which cost my adventurer his life.

Ralith that's no big deal; you can go just go to the military screen and reassign their weapons to crossbows. If anything training them in wrestling first was good as they will be stronger and better shield users in case your enemies manage to reach your firing positions. Many people train all their soldiers to be wrestling champions before specialization in a particular weapon skill.

Senorohi, that sounds pretty awesome; as a Canadian my fireworks celebration was on Wednesday. Be safe with your fireworks, have fun, and if, possible film it! (I want to see you sink boats with fireworks)

That's interesting Pushy, I never previously understood what the 'northern swamp' designation I would get was based on. I want to aim for fun cancels like that too now.

My fisherdwarves must be sober...

Ha Pushy that's pretty amazing. Did you mod in lava fish or is this a bug? I've never seen something like this before.

Somewhere in the init file there is a way to increase the detail provided to you about your engravings. It will generally give dates and names for your pictured events.

I never knew Morul had a wife; what's she like? Is she still ok? Does Morul have any kids?

For some reason I've never had a huge issue with SGE; they never seemed to attack my dwarves unless I deliberately sent hammerdwarves out to fight them. But yes, SGCS are terrifying beasts to encounter. STEALTH! SO MANY WAYS TO ATTACK! As mentioned before, Skeletal Whales, despite being rather uncommon, are very intense enemies as they come in large, landwalking packs and have an incredible size.

Is the imp dead? Once I had a Champion cancel rest over 10,000 times do to a Titan I had captured in a cage trap. I eventually placed the Titan in my carbonate chamber and the Champion felt better after that.

Blackburn, what you did was find a legendary peasant in the inn. Only warriors can be local leaders, but commoners can often become legendary if their land has been in great violence and they have killed many enemies. You must have met one of these people.

Jaybud, I don't mean to be a tool here but that's exactly what I said. Year 200 is the first year it could potentially stop world generation.

You can change the world gen by going into the custom world generation menu. The reason most worlds start at 200 is because 200 is the minimum year that you can begin playing the world, so even if the necessary requirements to begin playing (such as killed megabeasts; I'm not sure what all of them are) are finished by 180, the game continues running world generation until the minimum year 200. You could set it to whatever you wanted though; I know some people like to run 10,000 year gens to create very politically complex worlds.

If he was Human Druid he would have announced himself and would have been just as easy to kill as a peasant. Druid's are usually jokes to fight.

Man cheating is not the right way to go around handling hard stuff. Flood it with magma or something, but cheating is so undwarfy. If you want to modify the data to kill him and still do it in a dwarfy way, fill the chasm with kitties then cause the thermonuclear catsplosion, which most no longer view as a cheat but as just another enjoyable feature.
