DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Guyssss! Where did you put my stuff?
« on: May 31, 2009, 11:06:27 pm »

how bloody are we talking here?
We're talking about a magma pipe with a named fire imp that killed 2. We're talking about a burning booze stockpile that let our expedition leaders clothes catch on fire, leaving her fiery corpse in the middle of a barracks. A fisherman being dragged away by a cougar. We're talking about our brave future mayor standing guard over a wounded stonecarver (who he had actually beaten unconconsious and bloody after losing his wife to the previousl mentioned fiery booze) with a crossbow, shooting down 4 kobold ambushers with turtle bone bolts, only to have the poor stonecarver starve to death.
Needless to say, our first round of immigrants were shock.

Is she insane or in a tantrum? If it's a tantrum, yes, after enough violence she will eventaully settle down and tend to the wounded. If she's insane, nope. She'll kill until there is nothing left to be killed or she herself is slain.

I pamper my mayor. He loves copper, which my steel filled map doesn't have a lot of. Despite this, I import quite a bit of copper and make him copper doors, armour stands, cabinets, weapon racks, statues and the like, because I like my mayor (he is the only survivor of a BLOODY embark).
Anyways, his last request for copper items lead to one of my favourite stonecarvers being badly beaten when we couldn't carry it out. Today, he asked again.
He was probably delighted when he arrived at the forge to find 3 lovely copper goblets waiting for him. Heading back to his quarters, he was probably shocked to find a dull, schist door waiting for him.
Turns out that while he was hauling wood or however he spends him time, we had lovingly melted down his masterwork furniture to meet his mandate.
Bastard.

I actually had a mega beast die a pretty epic death during a human siege. Despite missing his tail, a dragon single handedly hunted down and slaughtered tree or four squads of mounted warriors-despite periodically loosing consciousness since his tail had been torn off in world gen. It took a whole squad of mounted archers to bring him down-and if they hadn't been mounted, I bet he would have won. Or, even more so, if he hadn't passed out while chasing them due to an injury sustained over 100 years before.

That's pretty awesome! Did the dragon light the horses on fire, or pick up men and throw them from their mounts? Did you record this?

Yeah Giant's and Cyclops CHIRP so hard. I've had references to people's inadequte manhoods, strange things about women being killed....these semimegabeasts are just hilariously evil.

Burn the coat off, and get a water pit ready to put it out before the elf burns. Then drain the pit before the elf drowns. The chance of survival of the elf is pretty long, but it'll be really dwarfy if he makes it and survives to be able to trade.

What a trooper! But yeah, I never have seen an elven outpost liason. Can you request exotic pets?

I think this one of the reasons why it is important to bring a party on your adventures instead of going solo; as it is in real life. When someone starts winning the fight, they generally keep winning it. When the wolf disables your arm and knocks you down, chances are he's just gonna keep disabling you. When you have a good party with you, they can get people off you before they can get a finishing blow in.
But yeah, getting your throat torn out can kill anyone with one hit. No party can help you from that. Toady should introduce in neck armour or something to block this.

DF Suggestions / Re: Pack Animals & Wagons

Sorry Impaler those were just two ideas I had been thinking about for a long time so I decided I would add both at the same time.

DF Suggestions / Pack Animals & Wagons
« on: May 30, 2009, 03:13:21 pm »
It would be cool if pack animals and wagons could be used for transporting things around the fort. A wagon would be like a large, portable stockpile; you would mark what you would like to be placed in the wagon and then set where it goes (example, set it for a wood stockpile and then place it in a chopped forest). Dwarves would then be tasked to lead the wagon to its designated spot, and dwarves would haul items to the wagon like it is a normal stockpile. The wagon could then, when full, be marked to return to a spot near the fort. A dwarf would lead it to the fort. At this point you could undesignate it as a wood stockpile and dwarves would unload it and put the wood into a different wood stockpile. Pack animals meanwhile could serve in a similar function.

DF Suggestions / Re: Ships & Boats
« on: May 30, 2009, 03:09:27 pm »
When the physics engine improves we can just design our own boats and stock them ourselves. The two things we would need would be a bouyancy engine which decides whether the boat floats or sinks, and a physics engine that allows things like sails, or coal powered engines, or oars, to move the bouyant construction across the water.

DF Suggestions / Royal Guard as a Bodyguard
« on: May 30, 2009, 03:06:18 pm »
We should be able to assign Royal Guardsdwarves to Royal Nobles, the same way one assigns a dog to a common dwarf. The Royal Guards would follow the noble around and defend them from ambush. It would also be cool if some of the Nobles also are warriors, and if you draft them, they stay as a Baron or whatever but you can order them around, and like dogs, the Guardsdwarves would follow the warrior-nobles onto the battlefield. They could own their own weapons and armour and store them in their armour stands and weapon racks while they aren't using them.

DF Modding / Mounts and Diplomatic Guards
« on: May 30, 2009, 03:01:18 pm »
I'm a bit of a newbie to the world of modding, and if there is a thread that already already addresses these issues I apologize.

1. Anyways, I know you can tag creatures as [Mounts] but I looked through the human entity files and I couldn't find anywhere that suggested that humans ride mounts into combat, although they certainly do. What is the tag that lets them ride horses and
2. I've heard of a tag that gives Diplomats bodyguards; does that make the diplomats who show up have their own soldiers to protect them from wild animals and ambush? Do any of the vanilla civs have these? (diplomats visiting my fort always seem to arrive independantly)

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Town leaders a bit overpowered?
« on: May 30, 2009, 02:14:52 pm »
I've always found Town Leaders to be quite fair to fight against. Obviously spearmen are always dangerous to fight against because they deal out pierce damage, and you also got pretty unlucky to fall off the 2nd floor. However, town leaders should be strong because they are supposed to be veteran warriors who have built or taken over a town using their martial skills to defend it (and they have superior weapons and armour to prove it). Just because you spent a few days training your adventurer to throw rocks doesn't mean he should easily beat a badass who has spent 100 years butchering elves and giants.
