Yeah right I stopped believing in the corpse fairy when I was like 10 years old.  Freakin kiddie stuff.
Turns out it was my parents picking up the corpses and leaving me clothes the whole time, just making up stories to maintain my "innocence" or something

I laughed for almost a minute at that and got some very funny looks.

Seeing as dwarves reproduce by spores, your wodwarves mights accidentally have baby male dwarves. You would need a special airlock between the dwarves and wodwarves, perhaps by recruiting the mother as she carries her baby, stunning her with a rockfall, capturing her in a cage and hope that the father steps up and takes care of the baby while the cages wodwarf is chucked into the garbage pit.

What keeps me up at night is the question of what the kennels the elves train those animals out of are built out of.

Would it be possible for a water aqueduct to carry water all the way into the center of a desert?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: "Looney Tunes" style traps!
« on: August 16, 2009, 10:04:10 pm »
It may not be Looney Tunes but I'm always in pursuit of a way to dismember my prisoners without killing them. I've tried putting recruits in and then unrecruiting them once they have hacked off an arm but they often will just finish the gobbo off anyways. Meanwhile, weapon traps are good at chopping of arms but they won't stop until the gobbo is dead and blocking the trap. Anyone got a method/trap for removing arms and legs but leaving the rest of the goblins in one piece?

Parrying dragonfire with a sword sounds incredibly awesome.
Also, can't you wield any weapon in one hand as an adventurer?

Most weapons can be weilded one handed if you are big enough. Dwarves weild some one handed weapons two handed however as they are shorter.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Unreasonably complicated defences
« on: August 16, 2009, 10:00:51 am »
What I'd like to see is some massive Heath-Robinson device-cum-invader trap, which spans most, if not all, of the entire fortress, involving computation of water levels, magma, supports, pressure plates, prisoners, and kittens with an overarching purpose of doing something ridiculously simple (like activating an atom smasher, or dropping a bridge, or something).

Now that would be unreasonably complicated.

Yeah, like you pull the lever and it starts a big of magma flowing. The magma hits a goblin prisoner whose clothes catch fire and he runs towards the water area. His fire turns some of the water into steam and this water change activates a pressure plate that triggers a support which blocks thousands of tons of rocks 20 z levels and a slowly filling water room. The mist knocks out a kitten who tumbles from her platform down onto a bridgapult while the water room finally fills on a pressure plate that triggers the firing of the bridgeapult. The kitten flies to a burning lignite box and runs to a booze stockpile, which explodes. The burning booze kills an entire family and drives the father insane who pulls the lever while insane to close the floodgate the siegers are using to enter the fort.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How did you find out about DF?
« on: August 16, 2009, 09:48:38 am »
I found it in the xkcd forums where people were talking about how they made prisoners fight elephants. I went to the wiki and read the whole thing (sadly I read about HFS instead of saving it) and then read boatmurdered and I actually lurked this forum for over a month before finally downloading it (I was worried it wouldn't live up to my expectations). It did.

Amen to that. And some people SAVE SPAWN! What a bunch of elves.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Stopping Immigration
« on: August 15, 2009, 10:08:28 pm »
Yeah its pretty much all in the wiki under 'Init'. Go to your init, its a text file somewhere in your data folder and lower the immigration thing from 200 to 7. As long as none of your guys die my understanding is that you won't get any immigrants. Check the wiki for further help.

ULTRA MEGA POINTS if you mod uranium in and make it produce nuclear miasma that gives dwarves internal injuries and then lock your 20 dwarves in with a dwarf nicknamed Captain Alexi Vostrikov and let him try to sort of the revolutions and quarantines (if you manage to mod the nuclear miasma in properly, please tell me how actually)

If you have nothing better to do you can probably have quite a bit of fun setting up batteries of ballistas, machine gunners and catapults to oppose the Goblin D-Day that will never happen. Carry out practices firing weapons into the ocean. You won't be attacked but it will make your fort look really cool. Extra points if you dig out a U-boat pen and construct an immmobile submarine out of steel in it.

You can make the waterslide trap; I've seen similar things before. However, the goblins are not really sliding down the ramps but are instead being pushed by the water pressure.

I always wish I can request engravings/images/adornments to be of specific events so my champion's tombs can show them single dwarfedly slaughtering a gobbo siege.
