Forum Games and Roleplaying / Re: Primordial Dreamers [1/10]
« on: January 24, 2022, 04:04:26 pm »
The cheerful cackling of the cabbage fossils rolling down/up the Hill of the Absurd stirs to action further dreamers (they do not, as such, awaken, because this is a dream), who blossom and unfold into their/our full splendifurious glories.

I, Catte! Felidae! who is you when I am speaking, feels the omnipresent dream nibbling at me, and you decide that I must do something about this. But what, you cannot yet determine, and so I fish a hand into a ephemeral stream of scrolls and deer, before raising out a grand scroll embossed all over with finest icing. A dream guide, my instinct mutters indistinctly, as it unfurls dramatically, completely blank, as all writing should be.

You read it studiously, and I understand and comprehend as the scroll tells me that to prolong life one must take daily walks, build and maintain bulwarks or scapegoats to take battering in your place, and grow fat from feasting on what your dynamo hungers for. As if summoned, my dynamo grumbles and mewls hungrily. For no cattes, cute or otherwise, seem to be visible, thus calling their factual cuteness into question, a most dangerous state of affairs. You manage to console me by convincing yourself that you are a cute Catte. Probably. Cuteness is just a social construct okay. If I say I'm cute then I am. Your dynamo still grumbles.

Almost as an afterthought, the scroll whispers to you that the ambitious may try to tame the wild horse of the Primordial Dream so that it does not trample so. A fool's errand, but what am I, if not a fool?

I, Lynn, the Lady of the Swan admire my feathered appearance in the perfect picturesque Lake of Idyll. There are certainly no monstrous shadows or ill-omened currents swirling in its depths, for why would I dream up such horrors? Absurd. Speaking of Absurd, my lake borders the bottomless, topless Hill of the Absurd, and the cackling of its horrid cabbage skeletons disturb my contemplation of my own scaled perfection, and appreciation of my beautiful lake. My chest feels terribly hollow and empty, my feeble dynamo letting out small whimpers as if frightened by the masses and masses of potential all around, completely unrealized, untapped.

Tob the Amazing attempts to self-realize, a single horn piercing into triumphant existence, but withers up and is swept away by a tide of crumply flowers, completely unable to persist without a suitable dynamo. Perhaps they will return again.

We, which is to say you and they, Brink of Catastrophe Advancing from the Horizon, Jauntily, does what they and I and also you believe to be impossible, quite a common occurrence in dreams. With the urgency and and suddenness of calamitous lightning, you which is they which is us plucks up one of the merrily cackling cabbages and transposes it at the top of the Hill of the Absurd which has no top. This is surprisingly easy to accomplish, but the result is quite damaging to look at. Our and their dynamo rumbles happily as you and they and I stare happily at the impossible, paradoxical handiwork of royal incoherence. The cabbage skeleton cackles uncertainly, rolling around in endless circles upon a single point, the proverbial, which is to say original, angel on a pinhead.

Thou art the Moon in Red, a Vermillion Memory. You succumb to grand solipsism sinking deeper and deeper into yourself, reveling in dreams of memories of dreams of blood and happiness not forgotten. And thus the Primordial Dream bleeds, wounded grievously. A great gap is cut out of the riotous everything, and from it gushes a river of mostly red blood. It happily flows around, potentially up and also down, the Hill of the Absurd into the Idyllic Lake, quite spoiling its natural beauty. You are happy, and remember yourself from the eyes of Lynn, who stares at you. Thou becomes clearer in thine remembrances, perhaps.

The Primordial Dream seems slightly calmer. For certain definitions of slightly and calmer.

I see no particular reason why the Eye would care about mortals or do anything to them? While much about it is vague, it seems simply an ornery landowner who tolerates our presence because it's too much of a bother to throw us all out and we provide amusement. Its behaviour as written seems to be motivated in not having us bother him and having us play nice, presumably because gods not playing nice causes a mess and is generally a bad idea because it brings down property values like crazy.

If anything, it's probably safer to create mortals with the Eye awake and watching since that makes it more dangerous for other divines to overtly smite them for having the wrong hair colour or whatever.

P.S. Don't give your mortal the wrong hair colour, OR ELSE.  :P

Am I correct in assuming people do not want to advance the age because there are still a lot of province slots to fill up? If so, will the people voting not to advance the age actually fill up those province slots? Or?

Yourself Brink of Catastrophe Advancing from the Horizon, Jauntily remembers what we they you always were, and never will be. Our/your/their Fifth Kingdom of Incoherent Paradox flashes briefly amidst the Primordial Dream, before sinking beneath the waves of everything else. Inside your/our stormy form of impending calamity, our/their/his dynamo churns and chortles eagerly, drinking in the impending threat from all that is outside of it, the universal threat of the Primordial Dream threatening to eat it, empowering it. Yet it/our/your calculations show the dire results that more energy is being lost to resisting the Primordial Dream that is being stolen from it. A net loss promising eventual death.

Yet eventual death is not yet death, and while you/we/I still live, we shall not go quietly into infinity. The cackling of fossilized fronds resounds as a troupe of dread cabbage skeletons roll from prophetic jaws of danger, rolling down the Hill of the Absurd, forever and ever, never reaching the bottom.

Perhaps this is good for us/we/them.

As a slow drip of feeding flows into the Flesh Conch of Screaming from their Incarnae and the traitor flesh, it clamages to blunt the sharpest edge of its ravening hunger slightly. It feels power flowing back into it from the digestion of delicious meat-eor. It thought strange half-thoughts through a haze of gnawing hunger, humming idle melodies of consumption.

A pearl of fat and humming grace begins to congeal within the material plane, growing and proliferating itself, ballooning outwards in a bloody mist of tendrils waving around, thickening, twining together into a larger lump, before repeating. Growing and growing, until the divine energy that had supported the appearance of a new island finally ran its conchrse.

From among the mists quivered the Singing Flesh, a landscape of undulating flesh, clammy with sweat and slightly sweet putridity. Built upon bones of finest leitmotif, it shudders and flagellates instinctively, wordless songs emanating from cave-mouths and fine networks of air breathing-passages built into hills and gorges producing unending notes and melodies. It scents new lands on the air and clumsily flobbers its way towards them.

Flesh Conch of Screaming spends 1 Flesh and 1 Music to haunch the Singing Flesh initiative for greater synergistic growth

Vote to progress the age, not to the Age of Myth, but to the Age of Magic. Because clearly we need an age to explicitly and clearly define the structures of magic underlying the world.
The Flesh Conch of Screaming explains, via a moving rendition of Toccata and Fugue in AB+ that advancing to the Age of Magic is fine too.

"MeAt?!yUMmEATEATMeaTEATMEATmEaTeAt!"

Quote
"I have an iota of power. Of power. Who wishes to take it, use it? And for what?" (giving out a free generic act)
The Flesh Conch of Screaming attempts to eat the act, and when that doesn't work, tries to use it to create plants made of tasty meat instead of still yummy, but less meaty, plantstuff everywhere, as well as carnivorous creature who can only eat meat and animate meatballs who turn non-meat stuff into meat, before eating it.

1 Susan Generic Act attempted to be used to create the Meat-Pyramid

Name: Meat-Pyramid
Traits:
+ A functional food chain/pyramid thing entirely made of delicious meat, the best meat you ever tasted. Plants made of meat eaten by animals made of meat themselves eaten by other animals made of meat.
+ Several species of spherical meat creatures exist within the Meat-Pyramid that can directly transmute non-meat into more meat through touch, working on most stuff like stone and metal and dirt and wood, though this is usually a slow process of several hours, and honestly it's questionable whether they are even better at this than meat-plants, which turn water and dirt and whatever else into more meat.
 - As there is no herbivorous creatures within the meat pyramid, there is no natural predators for normal plants, except for meatballs slowly converting them, which isn't really enough to stop invasive plant species.
Description: An ecosystem made entire of delicious meat. Can convert non-meat into more meat.

Creating them from scratch should be fine too; my notes don't seem to say anything about why they should have to have precursors
For the evolution advocating atheists obviously. Intelligent design is a spook KJP.

Artifacts can be upgraded to higher tiers over several turns if and only if the full cost difference is paid each upgrade-turn.
Which means that for the time being, you can only get up to Greater Magical Item, and you're not going to be able to make it store Acts without assistance.
Oh, I thought the storage major feature was saying it can store four acts, not that is four acts more expensive. No wonder no one has made a functional act storage yet.

Harvest, do you have even the slightest clue what a cognitohazard is?
Presumably, knowing what cognitohazards are is itself a cognitohazard. :P

Mmm, I think that's all fine?  :-\

Also, how viable is upgrading an artifact to higher tiers over several turns?

Ah well, how unexpected that would come back. Study the conch closely, perhaps we can come to some agreement.
Fleshy folds blossom, pearls pulsate, mouths gibber, drool and chew at themselves, "HELLOhEllOHUNGRYHuNgRyYOUyUoLOOKlOOkTASTYTASTYHUNGRYHUNGRYEATEATEATEATEATEATEAT!"

Via a specific pulsating of pearls, the Flesh Conch of Screaming indicates approval of flight as a default trait
The Flesh Conch of Screaming keens hungrily, proposing that all material life requires some form of sustenance.
The Flesh Conch of Screaming screams at the Eye to feed it, EATEATEATHUNGRY
The Flesh Conch of Screaming urbanely votes to advance to the Age of Myth
The Flesh Conch of Screaming's constant screaming abruptly becomes melodious instead of earritating for a few precious minutes, supporting the creation of the various plants of the Harvest GodHUNGRYHUNGRYFEEDME
(Use Night to twist fate if that would help?)

The Flesh Conch of Screaming spends an entire harvest season gnawing ineffectually at the Meat-a-ball before realizing, as a god, they were immaterial, and thus COULDN'T EAT ANYTHING. Their screams intensify in volume, becoming more strident as the Flesh Conch of Screaming desperately begins vomiting up divine power trying to solve their predicament.

Fragments of song and melody slowly denature into less beautiful, yet more needed forms of divine power.

The Flesh Conch of Screaming conchverts their Music Act into 2 Generic Acts

These faintest of echoes, the Flesh Conch of Screaming ate and regurgitated as 2 Incarnae. The Creature Eater, he of the Many Mouths, and the War-Form Devourer of the Bottomless Gullet.

The Flesh Conch of Screaming conchjures up the Creature Eater for 1 Generic Act and the War Form Devourer for another 1 Generic Act.
The Devourer is put into stasis, while the Eater is activated and sent to the most edible part of the world.

Spoiler: Eater (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Devourer (click to show/hide)

With a launched pearl crashing into it like a billaird, the Eater is sent hurtling towards the most edible looking part of the world, the Devourer curling into a stasis ball, which the Flesh Conch of Screaming screametes away somewhere.

But even with the Eater sent on a sacred mission of feeding, it was far from enough. The divine conch-body writhed, as it rebelled against itself, hunger unfed turning anarchic and rebellious. Sickening squelches, horrid gnashing and the splurting of blood resounded for a time, before the Flesh Conch of Screaming emerged from a haze of gore, surrounded by a swarm of angry mouths that had ripped themselves from its flesh, angrily biting away at what remained of the fleshy conch. Desperate, betrayed by its own hunger, the Flesh Conch of Screaming created a sanctum and retreated into it, where the angry angel-mouths could not follow, left with only the nearby Meat-A-Ball to feast upon.

Envoy-Maw angels are dropped in a pleasing spaghetti around Meat-A-Ball for one Flesh Act
