There's no Neanderthal DNA in humans; we're pure Cro Magnon. Odds are likely that the Cro Magnon were basically better at being humans than the Neanderthals and wiped them out by virtue of being more awesome.

We actually found a corpse dubbed Mitochondrial Eve. She's the common ancestor of Humans; Every single Human on the planet is descended from Mitochondrial Eve. Every single little bit of Mitochondrial DNA in your body, and everyone else's body, is directly descended from Mitochondrial Eve. Y-chromosomal Adam is the male variant (father of all living humans) Both Adam and Eve are Cro Magnon and lived before the 'out of Africa' migration, which basically means every living human on the planet is descended from Cro Magnon.

The main advantage the Uruk-Hai had over the Orcs\Goblins was Intelligence. The Uruk-Hai were as smart as men and thus were able to use tactics and training in battle.

The Black Orcs of Morder were just bigger, angrier normal Orcs.

General Discussion / Re: Stephen Hawking is afraid of aliens
« on: May 06, 2010, 02:43:21 am »
It seems likely that any alien race that has the technology to reliably cross the space between stars (and face it, you pretty much need FTL of some sort to pull that off) would have little or no interest in mankind.

If you have FTL; there are most likely billions of other earthlike planets with plenty of resources on them that are not inhabited by intelligent and warlike beings. It would be far more resource efficient to note the planet has established intelligent life, and then go somewhere else. Maybe stop by for a chat in a few thousand years if the life is still around.

Mind you, if you have reliable FTL, there's no reason why you don't have solar stations orbiting handy-dandy stars, providing you with all the energy you could ever need.

I'd run to the nearest AF base if it wasn't on the opposite side of town. If the zombies are capable of being killed via gunshot, then any type of armed military force will be able to pretty easily hold their own against zombies.

What kinds of zombies can't be killed, or at least incapacitated, by a bullet or 10? :S

Magical flying voudoun zombies.

Zombie Elephants.

Or worse; Zombie Orcas.

(Actually if memory serves the module opens up with an invasion of Brindol, so things will come to us; they will come to us with sharp things and poke us with them. Fortunately it was sufficiently long ago that i don't remember any details.)

"Calm yourself, for it is late and our friends tire. Even though i do not sleep, i can recognise the benefits of resting awhile. The town will not pick itself up and run away in the night, of that i can assure you."

I think the Trolls' Skaia, after twelve kernel hatchings, looked something like this.

13 Dimensional Chess.

If you were the one thousand rats, you'd spend alot of your time thinking life is awesome with all this food and no predators to worry about, and then a very short amount of time dying painfully, but probably not a whole lot more painfully than you could expect to die as a wild rat anyway.

No; i believe i have already said that stupid people are not useless.

Although there are some extreme forms of stupidity that perhaps could do with some regulation against them.

What? Oh that's right, something about god, cool! I forgot about this...

Well without jail, how else do you propose we select who is dumb enough to have action taken against them? I mean surly anybody dumb enough to go for medical trials on there own free will is a prime candidate to be taken from the race.

Not really; people are also influenced by emotion. Somone in huge emotional stress, perhaps from having too much debt, may well submit himself for an extremely dangerous medical trial in exchange for money despite normally being a perfectly intelligent individual.

This is part of the same reason why Suicide is illegal; because people change their minds. Somone who makes decision A now make make decision B tomorrow, when he's feeling happier. The problem is, if decision A leads to his death, he'll never get a chance to make decision be.

Sorry to leave you all hanging, but its starting to get late here.

Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but like everybody with a computer I have a mild sleeping disorder and have been known to go days without sleep, so I should get it in while I think I can.
Night folks!

The disorder is called "Somebody is wrong on the Internet."

That's why prisons exist.

Are you saying there should be a law against stupidity?

No; i believe i have already said that stupid people are not useless.

To be fair Max, you didn't admit your error until after Jackrabbit posted.

Now the question just comes into numbers then. Both a numeral value of intellect and number to be culled. There will always be rednecks that just shoot animals and not much more, do you realy think we can conduct research fast enough to clean stores out of workers?

I don't know I'm not qualified to answer the question.

At some level we are better off without some people.

That's why prisons exist.
