tap tab in the embark screen until it shows a bunch of numbers on the local map; these numbers represent cliff heights. Then find yourself a river and trace along it until you find a section where the river is a 0, 1 or 2 and the land immediately next to it is a 9 or higher.

I'm all for funny colored rocks for building fancy buildings, but goddamn i really wish it wouldn't inform me every single time i struck yet another cluster of Microcline\Orthoclase\Alunite.

It's bad enough that they replace potentially useful ore nodes, but that they have to be so obtrusive is just plain annoying.

Dwarf Fortress is attempting to be a fully realised world simulator, including all the nitty gritty details like making socks.

If you don't like that level of detail, then i humbly submit that DF is probably not the best choice of game for you, i don't mean this as an insult, merely a statement of fact, DF is not everyones cup of tea and only appeals to a very small number of people.

Of course, having four goblin entities can also mean receiving four goblin caravans at the same time if you don't replace [INTELLIGENT] with [CAN_CIV][CAN_LEARN].

Goblins have [BABYSNATCHER] which makes them enemies to all non-babysnatchers, so that's a non-issue.

Toady really doesn't want people interfering with Wagons, somone came up with a system whereby a retractable bridge was collapsed out from underneath a Wagon while it was crossing, which resulted in the Wagon hanging in mid air. Forever.

Wagons can run things over too; i had a Kobold flattened by a wagon.

Megabeasts are pretty wimpy atm; HFS is far more dangerous.

There are plenty of mods to add more lethal megabeasts however.

I'm breeding hippos!

I've also made them trainable for the hell of it, so my fortress shall soon be filled with War Hippos, considering a single normal Hippo single-handedly dispatched an entire Orcish siege i fully expect them to be unbelievably lethal.


As for breeding; i just let them wander around. They're Hippos so they're in almost no danger (and appear to be quite friendly with the local wildlife; two of my tame Hippos spend most of their time chilling in the river with half a dozen un-tame ones and some carp.) and my compy is sufficiently strong that i havn't run into any FPS issues yet.

Not really an option; the entire structure is built hanging in the void over a junction of 2 rivers and a waterfall; cave-ins have to be very careful to avoid punching holes right through the whole thing.

Plus it's kind of a bitch to time it right.
