Dorven Realms is a converter from Dwarf fortress world maps (Not forts!... yet...) into playable minecraft worlds.

To use, simple export Elevation, Elevation with water, and Biome maps from legends mode, and load the files into the program, chose the borders of the area that you want to use for conversion, and generate the world. Depending on the world size and settings used, it can take anywhere from a few minutes, to a few days.

Some notes:
Values between 4-8 for blocks per embark tile work well. 4 gives steeper slopes, while 8 gives more extensive biomes.
Cave height and width can change the feel of the caverns quite a bit. The default values give results that feel closer to DF caverns, but increasing height may be more to some people's taste.

General Discussion / Sexuality poll: It's all just spores anyway.

We must know!

Also, if you are trans-anything, then use the gender you identify as as your own gender, in this case.

Other Games / Single-pc multiplayer games.

I'm looking for games that are fun to play with two people when all you have is one laptop. Any suggestions?

I've already got trackmania.

Bonus points if it's free.
Bonus points also if it has low system requirements.

Other Games / Shootmania open beta

Shootmania, Nadeo's attempt at an FPS game, is now in open beta. I don't know how long it'll be, but for now, the game is free to play and try out. It's surprisingly fun, and I surprisingly don't suck at it.

Creative Projects / Doomed Bay12 City-builder game.
« on: February 08, 2013, 03:45:01 pm »
They say it's been tried 6 times and never has succeeded. They say that it is too ambitious, too broad in scope for people to manage in their free time.

I say bollocks to that.

Basically, this is a planning and brainstorming thread for making a city-builder game, and what would need to be in it for it to be fun to play.

What we are not looking for: a game that can be described as "DF 1.0" or anything similar. This needs to be something that can be realistically made.

I'll start.

Transport: I like transport and everything involved. People need to get from place to place, and the game needs to handle that in depth. transport routes should be splines, and should set, for example, what mode of transport it supports, how fast it can go, and what volume. (though these two may be related). A street may handle pedestrian or road traffic (road is a broad category that actually includes both car, bus, and whatever else)

People: The lifeblood of the city. How do we engage them? Do we do the three zones that simcity uses? Or do we use something else?

Money: simcity has a very simple taxation system. Do we adopt that? How do real world taxes work anyway?

Discuss.

What it says. CrossOver, the software for running windows programs on both linux and mac (no, not wine, the other one) is free, with one year of support, if you download it on Halloween day.

Utilities and 3rd Party Applications / Stonesense: Usage Poll!
« on: April 04, 2012, 08:28:52 am »
Since Jonask no longer has the time to maintain the thread, I have made a new one. The old thread can be found here

Stonesense is a third party visualizer that lets you view your Dwarf Fortress world in a classic isometric perspective.

This is the official thread for feedback, questions, requests or bug reports.

We are always looking for help on Stonesense, and we are in particular looking for isometric sprite artists.
So if you want to join us in creating the Official Stonesense tileset, let us know by posting in this thread!
Please note however, we must reserve the right to screen contributions.
We do this to preserve a consistent look for the official tileset, hope you understand:)

Latest Version
Stonesense is currently being maintained and distributed as a part of the DFHack package and is compatible with Dwarf Fortress version 0.34.11, for more info, see the DFHack thread.
The following links are provided for convenience, but may not be up to date. Please see the DFHack thread for updated versions if they don't work.

DF Suggestions / Item counters
« on: March 29, 2012, 04:45:19 am »
A useful feature to have would be to chose specific items to keep track of, and the game will show either always on screen, or in a menu that takes a single key to get to, how many of that item you have that are not in use.

DF Suggestions / Of window values.
« on: March 23, 2012, 10:42:57 am »
Right now, windows improve room value quite a bit, which is great.

but there should be a special bonus for certain things, like having at least one side of the window facing 7/7 water, for example.

"Has admired the ocean from below lately. Was scared by a shark lately."

things like that.

General Discussion / My adventures into the area of hardware.
« on: July 05, 2011, 11:03:55 am »
So a few weeks ago, my speedometer broke on my bike. rather than get the thing replaced, I decided to make myself a new one, using an arduino, and LCD screen, and some sensors.

so far, I've built the power supply, which will be used to give the arduino power.

here's pics:

This will connect to my bike, and give the arduino the power it needs, plus give just enough backup to save my odometer value before shutting off.

I'll be using this thread to update my progress.
