Right, so this is a book I've really wanted to read, but I live in the ass end of nowhere, so I can't get a physical copy. That leaves the internet.

Some searching reveals there's an audio-book version that has full sound effects and proper voice actors. sounds interesting. 19 hours the whole thing. hrm.

Right, so I have it now.

And I've listened to the first hour.

here are my thoughts.

And that's the first hour done. I probably won't listen to another tonight, but this is looking good so far. the voice acting is good, on a whole, as are the sound effects.

I'll write further as I get through the book.

Other Games / Gameplay times.

There's a lot of us here, and we're all indifferent timezones, so getting a group together to play something canbe a hassle. I aim to help with  this situation, but need your help. here's what you do:

1: Download this template:

2: Blocks are one hour each, starting from 00:00 GMT on monday morning, going to 23:00 GMT Sunday Night. fill in, using a color of your choice, the hours in the day when you can generally be expected to be able to play some games. remember, the times are GMT, so you want to convert it first.

3: Upload it to an imagehosting site that doesn't re-size the images. this means not photobucket or tinypic.

4: post it here, along with your steam ID, if you got one, and I'll compile it together.

Each bar also links to a steam profile, if applicable.

If enough people participate, I may also compile it to a bar graph.

This is a utility for viewing the detailed maps exported from legends mode in a more user friendly format.

Instructions:

go to legends mode in DF, and export, at minimum, the following detailed maps:
Code: [Select]
Elevations including lake and ocean floors
Elevations respecting water level
Biome
Structure/fields/roads/etc.
The rest are optional.

then use this program to open any of them, and it'll display whichever maps are exported.

To generate higher detailed maps of your adventures, make sure you have a relatively recent DFHack installation, then click connect while the game is running.

New stuff:
-Added support the new map naming sceme.

Download The beta version here.

There is a lua script that can be used together with DFHack to export all of the used maps at once.

Source can be found on github, though it is highly reccomended to compile it as part of DFHack

Play With Your Buddies / Sword Free Legend of Zelda
« on: September 22, 2010, 09:28:16 am »
I will be attempting to get to gannon in the first legend of zelda game, without ever getting the sword.

I will probably fail miserably, but I will try nonetheless.

DF Suggestions / Road traffic.
« on: January 02, 2010, 09:37:53 am »
At the moment, embarking on a road gives you nothing besides a lot of free blocks.

Forts built on roads should see a flow of traffic passing through, and possibly bringing in some business.

(an army that's just passing through would probably like to buy lots of booze, or might pillage a bit, depending)

DF Modding / Oversize tileset
« on: August 24, 2009, 06:16:40 am »
I've started making a hand-drawn tileset for use with 40d13+, taking advantage ofthe zoom and alpha channel features.

everything is hand-drawn, and looks a lot like it was made with a pencil.

it's far from done, but I thought I'd post some screenies:

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / So, I need ideas.
« on: July 26, 2009, 08:03:00 am »
I got a nice location here, the elephants aren't too much of a bother, and the view is nice, but there's so many possibilities that I can't decide.

here's the map of what I got so far. (POI's don't seem toe be working)

http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-6526-helmsdeep

sadly, I found shortly after uploading this that my intended method of damming the river doesn't work, as fortifying the walls on that edge simply lets in more water.
