DF Modding / One question from a modding newbie (thoughts)
« on: September 23, 2009, 05:13:52 am »
So. This ties into an idea I had and will eventually start work on if it's possible, but for now, I have one question. Is it possible to mod in thoughts? In other words, mod the game so that certain things cause happy or unhappy thoughts, and if so, can I alter how severe they are?

Specifically, would it be possible to make being attacked by or seeing a certain creature a trigger for a strong unhappy thought?

Thanks in advance. :)

Armok needs to get temples. Filled with pools of lava mixed with unboiling blood. With statues of carp and elephants. The walls shall be made of elf bones, and the floors paved with bars of iron that were once worn by legendary goblin warriors. All of this, of course, covered in the blood of those who would defy the Blood God.

Nist Nazush nom.
Fear the Blood-God.

...Perhaps I'm getting a tad insane.

Not insane. Dwarfy. There's a difference, albeit a very, very small one.

The only insane part of this is the lack of a bloodstone-encrusted obsidian ledge or something to drop sacrifices (read: nobles) from.

if you search thoroughly enough, you can find fire temples, which you can embark on for a free lava pool.
And mineral temples. Witch are filled with minerals.

(true story, I found one myself)

*blinks* Minerals. Lava. In temples.

Thanks Armok.

This is news to me. First of all, thank you. Second, where do I find these? I take it they come with goblin dark fortresses?

Chris: Apply magma so it smokes and craters some more. Really, this should be simple.

Progress report: Finding a map with ocean tiles, magma, trees and sand is far harder than it should be. Far, far harder.

I once had a cyclops list off 24 people he had killed, including several leaders. After that he stepped up to me and punched. I dodged and decapitated him with a counter strike.

most anti-climatic fight ever.

Yivu, for all his awesomeness in Legends, was also quite anti-climatic thanks to the injury. Gave into pain immediately and got hacked to bits. There was this other cyclops I sent my swordsdwarf at, though. I ran up to it, got punched into the head (which "collapsed into the body, an unrecognizable mass"), flew back 8 tiles, hit a wall and blew apart. That was kinda anti-climatic in the other direction :P

Darn it, mine are always unconcious when I reach them.

Quite a few of mine are too. In my experience, it doesn't stop them from talking, odd as that may be. They'll also talk regardless of stealth. Doesn't mean they've spotted you, just means that nothing seems to stop their monologues.

Am I the only one who finds the "bad luck with women" comment rather odd?

Yes and no. It's weird, but I've had giants boast that someone or the other "shattered on the anvil of their contempt", so none of those comments faze me much at this point :P

Interesting.. I checked later in Legends, though, and anything named that attacked me was marked as an enemy of the Bearded Ruthlessness. Guess they decided to look out for me :P

Well, I don't know if it's as good as burning elves, but Estrur has a dead human (Furi Eyehops, I plan to check who that was on Legends at some point) to his name.

Also, I talked to the leader, Zolak Shortdoomed (pikemaster). Turns out that Yivu the cyclops attacked almost a century ago, back in 107 (It's the 5th of Timber, 203 now) and killed 11, then ran off after losing a leg. So yes, something of a local legend, I assume. I think they might be friendly because I killed Yivu beforehand, unless Adventurer mode goblins are friendly by default. Can anyone confirm this?

Oh, and if the attack in 107 calls for screenshots, I have one.

Probably worldgen. Also, not Ulysses - my axedwarf is "Zaneg Glazecontrol". Yes.

Oh, and by the way, I'm looking around the dark fortress now. They're friendly, and somehow surviving despite having to fight off the inhabitants of a chasm AND an underground river.

Also, more notable names. Another powerful group in here is the Perplexing Poisons, led by Ngokang Necroghouls the demon since year 1. In other words, since worldgen, which would be about 220 years at the moment. Along with that, there's a perfectly ordinary goblin guard named Estrur Talkjackals the God-forsaken Eater of Twilight. Not going to mess with that goblin :P

I'll just show the image, followed by an explanation.

Yes, the Bearded Ruthlessness. Not shown: Mato Netmaligned, yet another former TBR leader, being killed by thi s cyclops. Yivu, by the way, is missing her entire right leg.

Oh, and TBR is NOT a dwarven civ. It's a goblin civ, the capitol of which is Dungeonthrowers, a dark fortress not too far away from the cave where I found Yivu. The current leader is a spearmaster goblin named Zolak Shortdoomed, who has been leader for the last 16 years. Also, according to Legends, previous leaders shown by Yivu were all pretty impressive. Stozu Jackalrag was an elite marksgoblin, Mato a hammerlord, and Nguslu Thiefbewitched was a demon. Clearly, this cyclops was awesome at some point. Still fell rather easily thanks to giving in to pain all the time, though.

Anyway, thought I'd share that, if only for the civ name. Any suggestions as to what to do with them?

I'd try the sunken ship thing, but I'm afraid it's beyond my skill. IF I manage to pull off the whole ocean-straining aquarium without it blowing up in my face, I'll put a couple statues and such there as decoration. Also a fish mural on the floor.

Bonus points for using glass windows.

Also, a shorter term (potentially) for mini-mega project: kiloproject. Just an idea  :P
