DF Modding / One question from a modding newbie (thoughts)
« on: September 23, 2009, 05:13:52 am »
So. This ties into an idea I had and will eventually start work on if it's possible, but for now, I have one question. Is it possible to mod in thoughts? In other words, mod the game so that certain things cause happy or unhappy thoughts, and if so, can I alter how severe they are?

Specifically, would it be possible to make being attacked by or seeing a certain creature a trigger for a strong unhappy thought?

Thanks in advance. :)

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / So there's this cyclops.
« on: May 30, 2009, 09:54:37 pm »
I'll just show the image, followed by an explanation.

Yes, the Bearded Ruthlessness. Not shown: Mato Netmaligned, yet another former TBR leader, being killed by thi s cyclops. Yivu, by the way, is missing her entire right leg.

Oh, and TBR is NOT a dwarven civ. It's a goblin civ, the capitol of which is Dungeonthrowers, a dark fortress not too far away from the cave where I found Yivu. The current leader is a spearmaster goblin named Zolak Shortdoomed, who has been leader for the last 16 years. Also, according to Legends, previous leaders shown by Yivu were all pretty impressive. Stozu Jackalrag was an elite marksgoblin, Mato a hammerlord, and Nguslu Thiefbewitched was a demon. Clearly, this cyclops was awesome at some point. Still fell rather easily thanks to giving in to pain all the time, though.

Anyway, thought I'd share that, if only for the civ name. Any suggestions as to what to do with them?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Petrification trap
« on: April 24, 2009, 07:42:42 pm »
Just an idea, and more for flavor than anything else, but here's something I came up with.. remember, it hasn't been tested yet.

Get a small room with a floodgate to release magma on the front, grates all along the ceiling (or hatches, if you can place them vertically), and a floodgate to release water on each side. The grates are all keyed to one lever (I think that's possible. I'm new and moderately clueless). Basically, when some invaders or some such thing walk over the grates, pull the lever. This drops them down, and traps them. Proceed to pull some more levers, releasing magma followed by water. This fills the chamber up with obsidian, hopefully trapping/encasing whatever it was you dropped. Yes, I know magma would kill them already, but this is far more dwarfy.. and might even get around fire immunity, I don't know.

Make sure you have another way to access the pit so you can mine out the obsidian later, to clear the room if nothing else. Oh, and this might well make a neat trap to put in trade depots too (killing elf merchants and such).

Thoughts?
