I can wait then, not really in a rush. I assumed a long signup would lead to people dropping out but if it's the other way round I can wait.

I'm willing to hold it until the end of Revolution if that means getting more players.

EDIT: I actually have one question about this setup. In the video game version of Gnosia, the "Guard Duty" roles are essentially mod-confirmed Townies, and Gnosia are unable to fake as them. This, of course, means that as soon as the Guard Duty roles claim, the Gnosia gets ready to target them for night-kills. Leafsnail, is that same limitation at work in the forum game version of Gnosia? Or is it possible for Gnosia to fakeclaim as "Guard Duty"? (The Gnosia are already buddies with each other, so it's a little easier for them to pretend to be Masons in the latter scenario.)
No - they're just masons in this game, fakeclaiming them is allowed. There are some limitations in the videogame (eg the Guardian Angel can't claim, Guard Duty cannot be falsely claimed) but I'd rather not restrict what players are able to do here.

Mafia / Who are the Gnosia? Game Over - Crew Win!
« on: April 07, 2021, 01:48:12 pm »
Gnosia infection has been confirmed. Setting a course for the Depotto system. Initiating cold sleep protocol.

All Gnosia must be eliminated before the destination is reached.

Welcome to Gnosia Mafia, an open setup for up to 15 players. It is based on the Switch game of the same name. Notably the setup features a lot of town power roles, but no roleflips.

Setup Rules
- There are no roleflips.
- The setup will consist of a scumteam of Gnosia, crew members and some or all of the roles listed below.
- The number of Gnosia and which roles are present will be confirmed at the start of the game.
- This is an open setup - I can answer any questions regarding roles or gameplay in-thread or in private messages.

Gameplay Rules
- Days will initially last 72 hours. There are no hammers. If the vote is tied at the end of the day there will be a runoff.
- The runoff is an extension to the day phase that lasts 24 hours. During this runoff players can only vote for the players who were tied for the vote. If the vote is tied at the end of the runoff phase the game proceeds with No Lynch.
- A player with the most votes after the initial day phase or after the runoff will be put into cold sleep and eliminated from the game.
- Please do not post after the deadline for the day ending. Votes will never be counted after that point.
- Weekends count as 24 hours.
- Players should vote in red.
- Players can vote for No Lynch. No runoff vote will occur if No Lynch is tied for the most votes.
- Nights last 24 hours.
- Communication between players regarding this game is only allowed in this thread and in mod-provided quicktopics.
- Do not quote any private communication you receive from the moderator.
- Flavor text is purely for flavor - it will never provide any additional information regarding player alignment or the source of a kill.

The Gnosia setup is interesting, I'd be curious how well it would work as a game with human players. The lack of roleflips means it's a lot more profitable for the mafia or mafia-ally to contest roleclaims.

If NQT knows they're a werewolf then I'm definitely a werewolf too.

This feeling...what i-is t-this...

Awoooooooooooooo
I'm pretty sure you're town and NQT's just bullshitting to try and get your vote. He could've targeted either of the other two wolves (eg if he targeted the Alpha he'd still know there's an alpha in the game). It's unlikely that Alpha Wolf would ever use their ability because this is the only possible scenario where it's beneficial. This is probably a manufactured claim rather than a genuine coincidence.

With that said this game is still impossible to win so GG.

I think this is NQT deciding he'd rather act like a jester than try to win a 1v1 fight.

I have just thought of some further analysis for Secretdorf. I am currently inclined to believe him (and therefore, also inclined to not believe NQT).

Let's imagine Secretdorf is a wolf. He's made a claim that is pretty likely to get LuckyOwl lynched. Isn't this actually really bad for him? If Secretdorf is a wolf and knows LuckyOwl isn't one, then there's a high chance from dorf's perspective that LuckyOwl really is a Tanner. And if Secretdorf's claim gets LO lynched then the wolves automatically lose. Making a claim that potentially removes the possibility of Tanner from the town's mind is extremely dangerous for him.
I guess he could be gambling on LO being a minion but that seems really bad. Note that if Sd is actually a wolf then he'd have no way to actually know that Tanner isn't in the game - he'd be taking the risk of getting a tanner lynched and losing.
He could also be a tanner/minion but in that case you'd expect a more risky claim. There's always the possibility of WIFOM but it'd be dangerous to avoid attention as a jester when two people have already gone swinging for the fences with bad claims.

That's good stuff Leafsnail, though you made one mistake: according to the OP (and the game this is based on) werewolves also lose if they lynch a tanner.
Yeah I realize now that I mistyped - I meant to say that lynching the Minion causes the wolves to win.

Now for analysis. For now I'm going to assume that all town roles that can't convert themselves to scum are telling the truth. There is a possibility that some town players are pulling a gambit but I assume they will correct themselves later. If so, I will re-evaluate.

Let's start with what I know:
ToonyMan was a Seer
I was a Bodyguard
Both of us started the game as town. ToonyMan could've been converted by an Alpha Wolf but he'd have no way of knowing that, so he'd still be playing as if he's town. So I am putting him down as effectively confirmed town.

From the perspective of other players, I appreciate that there is some possibility that we are both wolves. But note that ToonyMan was the first player to claim (excluding TricMagic's nonsensical claim), so it would be a huge gamble for him to potentially drag both wolves into difficult fights with other players who actually have (or who have seen) the Seer or Bodyguard role.

So the question becomes, who out of the remaining 5 players should we lynch?

I'll start by defining an umbrella term of "Lying role". These are roles that have a reason to lie about their claims - IE roles that know (or potentially know) they are not town.  I will try to identify who in this game has these roles. You can work out who has these roles through logic, but identifying whether someone has one of the roles we want to lynch or one of the roles we don't want to lynch will be trickier.

They are:
- wolves * 2
- PI who targeted a wolf or a tanner
- Robber who targeted a wolf, tanner or minion
- tanner
- minion (note that minion can win by getting themselves lynched, so they can play out pretty similarly to a tanner)

TricMagic: gave a nonsensical claim that clashes with confirmed town TM's. Confirmed lying role. I am inclined to think Tanner/Minion (note that lynching the Tanner causes the wolves to win, so from a town perspective those two roles are mostly the same) because it seems like an unnecessary risk to take as wolf, but there is no real way to resolve this without invoking WIFOM.

LuckyOwl: claimed to be a PI who became a Tanner. Confirmed lying role. This one is pure WIFOM - is it a wolf claiming tanner to avoid being lynched or a tanner double bluff? I don't really buy that the claim was an honest mistake by someone who still thought they were town - you'd expect LO to claim a target in that case. In addition the claim is contradicted by Secretdorf.

Secretdorf: Claimed Apprentice Seer. Said Tanner is in the middle. If Secretdorf is town this rules out the possibility of either of the above players being tanners, although note that they could still be bad lynches if they are a minion/a robber who swapped a minion. Is a lying role if NQT isn't.

NQT: Also claimed Apprentice Seer, seeing Alpha Wolf in the middle. Is a lying role if Secretdorf isn't.

FoU: Unclaimed. His claim should clear things up and allow for more analysis.

Second, nope I'm the Seer. Leafsnail was a bodyguard. They are still guaranteed town unless the troublemaker swapped them.
I can confirm this is true. The wolves have no seer in this game so ToonyMan must have started the game as a Seer (I guess he could technically be Robber or PI but he'd still be town in both cases) to be able to know my role. I will probably use my vote on a Tanner.

The action priority order is:
Quote
Alpha Wolf
Seer
Apprentice Seer
Paranormal Investigator
Robber
Troublemaker
So the only way I could be a wolf is if the Troublemaker happened to swap me with one - if the Alpha Wolf got to me then TM's inspection would've returned Wolf.

It's possible the Alpha Wolf started as a middle role which means they wouldn't swap a player with the added wolf card. When I'm saying "exist" what I really mean is "started the game on a player".

Can the Apprentice Seer claim if they are a player? Knowing one of the middle roles would help.
The Alpha Werewolf is a weird role because I think it's almost certainly a mistake to use its ability. The wolf they convert isn't told they're a wolf so the wolves don't get any more power as a voting bloc, and the wolves lose if a single wolf is lynched so it just increases the chance that a wolf will be lynched. I'm mostly going to ignore the possibility of an Alpha Wolf conversion because it should have no impact on the game other than one person randomly not winning/winning when they thought they would/wouldn't.

And... if someone IS tanner, can't we lynch them to win?
No - the tanner is villager aligned. Lynching them will cause everyone else to lose.

Do the werewolves know who their partners are or just what their role is?
