Anyone else create a Bay12 group yet, or should I?

Just did and kicked it over to open invites, here's the link: https://www.evolvehq.com/groups/91-bay12

...Blaster Master for the NES. That one is fun.

Wow, that's a blast from the past...I'd forgotten that one.  I never finished it...I think it's time to find an emulator.

NOICE! Am I the only one here lacking the HBO needed to watch it? Rrrrr... Basic cable.

No, sadly I lack it too.  :(  I should probably read the books, first, though; have to wait for the end of the semester.

To stay on topic, here's the image I use for my laptop log-in screen.

Shining Force and Shining Force 2 are considered the pinnacle of RPGs for the Genesis, although they were never my cup of tea.  Highly recommended to try them, though.  I was personally a fan of Wonder Boy in Monster World, but I have no idea how well it's received/known by others, since I picked it up as a bargain bin purchase.

The Alien Vs Predator remake is on sale for $4.99, along with all of the DLC at another $3.74.  I liked the older ones enough to give this a try, although paying for map packs bugs the heck out of me.

I haven't played it in months, but last I checked the online community wasn't exactly thriving.

If you're interested, I'd say the singleplayer content is worth $4.99. Probably not worth too much more than $4.99, though. And I would not recommend the DLC, unless you really enjoy the MP. (Remember, there's nothing saying you have to purchase the DLC at the same time; the deal is valid through Thursday, so you can purchase the main game first!)

At the rate my fail internet is downloading, it might take until Thursday...I went ahead and bought it already, though.  Once the price gets below $10 for a game, I tend to start equating it with eating in a night or two.

I've preordered and will probably be playing a bit with my brother, but I'm generally up a lot later than he is.  *puts name in the semi-non-random pool.

Quite pleased? Where is the antialiasing? This looks pretty bad :x

Coming off a laptop with a Intel 945GM?  Yup, quite pleased.  That's also with x8 AA on, actually. *shrug

Maybe it's just me, but I've not been impressed by one Aliased game yet.  It makes it all blurry in practically every game I've ever played.  Not worth the FPS hit if you ask me.

Agreed.

KG

EDIT: Sorry, x8, not x4.  Not impressed with the AA.  Word on the street is that it's broken in Crysis for Nvidia chipsets, but this is an ATI 6850.

I recently got this machine, and decided to put Crysis on it to test the graphics.  I was quite pleased with the result...

Makes me wonder how the game handles win conditions. If you killed your opponent's last unit with an unstable unit, would you still win? Sounds like the sort of thing that'd get in for the release and then get patched out...

I believe that the win condition is when you wipe all of your opponent's units at any point on the timeline...I suspect that prevents the situation you mention.

I've had my eye on this game a while...seems to have enormous potential, but I'm waiting to see if they polish it up some more.

KG

You lose when your base and units get destroyed at any point in time and you cannot prevent it. Maybe you send all your units to the enemy base and they get destroyed and then the enemy attacks your base and it gets destroyed. If you can cancel the order that sends your units to the enemy base you can prevent yourself from losing.

Ooh, that's complicated...I wonder how it does determine what's "preventable" then.

Life Advice / Re: I need to Monitor my Downloads... How?
« on: March 29, 2011, 08:05:01 pm »
NetLimiter 2 Monitor.  It doesn't play particularly nice when installing on Win 7 x64, but once you get it installed, it's fantastic.  It'll provide breakdowns of how much bandwidth a program and each of its child processes is using at any given time, plus hourly, weekly, monthly, and annual logs of overall usage for each program.  Here's an example for Steam on my machine:

Great program, highly recommended.

I already played the multiplayer demo, and it didn't do much for me.

Same here, I'm not going to buy it.  They throughly consolized and "lololKILLPERK!"-ed it.

Under Linux, an account on the server plus an ssh connection would be enough.  Under Windows, you'll need what Jay mentions, some kind of VNC or remote log-in (could use the built-in Windows Remote Desktop Connection if he's got the right version of Windows).

Life Advice / Re: How do I get Fallout 1 to run on my system?
« on: March 14, 2011, 09:38:28 pm »
I've found a fix for the problem you're talking about for Age of Empires 2, Starcraft, and I think Fallout 1.

The solution here is to get the resolution patch and apply it. You don't need to mess around with virtual machines or anything else.

Clearly you didn't read my post; it had nothing to with virtual machines.  I simply posted what is a fix for many older games, hardly the be-all end all.  I thought this was an open forum for discussion?
