Now - i am watching what people are trying to do with 31, and this is generally devastating so far.
Version is far away from d40 - 31 is not expanded d40 + things i hoped to see, like d40+docs, real layers generating engine(like d40's), with just fixed milking and better military - it is engine for making..well, diablo clones, almost.
I am pretty shocked at the attitude of some of these people. Maybe that's what you start to get when it starts to attracts greater numbers of players.
I also ended up making reclaim civilian, at least for now, since there were too many issues with starting out a bunch of pre-made squads. This also messed up soldier migrants, but I've compensated for that by giving migrants higher and more varied skills in general, including the skills of a former soldier at times.
1. I have a 'royal quality' dining room, which seems to give dwarves very happy thoughts ('dined in a legendary dining room'). Will adding even more statues and valuable stuff to the room improve the happyness of dwarves dining there even more, or is a room's happiness-giving effect capped at a certain level at 'royal quality'?
2. I understand that putting high quality statues in bedrooms etc. will improve the room quality and make dwarves who sleep there happier (to a certain point?). But will putting statues all around the fortress in hallways etc. improve general dwarf happiness, or will dwarves only get happiness from statues in statue gardens, bedrooms, dining rooms etc? Same with smoothing/engraving the floor and walls in random hallways, will that improve dwarf happiness or just total fortress value?
I was thinking about building some floors across the chasm, and then walls on the sides so it doesn't spill, but is this possible? Do I have to build three rows of floors across the chasm to put the walls on? Can I even make a floor across the chasm? Can a bridge be my floor, and can I build walls on bridges?
That was the last fort I used fortress guards in.
