Shiloh fell back and raised his shield and sword. "Monssster! Be on your guard!" he hissed.

Prepare for battle!
Dahne simply took a combat stance upon the event, eyes moving quickly as he began to check if something else was amiss.

Prepare for piercing and mangling time.
"Perhaps it is merely shy."

Prepare for battle!
"It must be the ground. It must be using the ground..."

Examine the ground and keep watch for any subtle changes.
You all get ready for battle!  Shields up, weapons ready, you stand together so it can't get the jump on you!  You look all over the ground, waiting for it to pop out and attack.  You wait in anticipation for a full minute... and then two... which turns into five minutes...

Is this thing gonna hurry up and attack?

Shiloh walks forward and cautiously touches the bulb with the tip of his sword, ready to jump back if something happens.
As you approach it, it pulls into the ground and vanishes.  The hole where it was is mostly filled with dirt.  The plant seems to just be gone.  How strange.

Prepare a pre-emptive strike if it turns out to be alive!
You were ready for it, but by the time you saw it move, it was too late.  It was surprisingly fast and escaped before you could attack.

((Honestly, better they hit you than anyone else.  Still, it will get easier.  The level will help more than you know.))
(Taking DEF Up)

Shiloh grimaced and examined his wounds. Perhaps drawing the ire wasn't such a great idea. "Let'sss keep going."
You grasp your side to stem the bleeding.  You aren't worried though, as Cyra comes to your side and administers some healing magic.  You're in tip top shape in no time.  You stretch out, and rub the former wounds, and feel no more pain.  "Let'sss keep going."

Proper Form, Lvl. 2!

"Now, this was a far better set of game than the previous lot. I am quite proud of you, team!"

Take the eyes of the clawmoles. And maybe their livers, if possible. Livers are the finest organ, after all.

Then move on where'er the day takes us.

"Now, this was a far better set of game than the previous lot. I am quite proud of you, team!"  You cheerfully tear apart the clawmoles and take a collection of organs, you monster.

(Give me a point in Delicious guard order.)

Bianca caught her breath, before leaning against a tree. "Maybe we should only explore a little bit more, then leave back to town?"
"Maybe we should only explore a little bit more, then leave back to town?"
Heal up Shiloh.

Cyra looked towards the exit passage, "Just one more battle, if we're pressing on. I don't think we can keep up with the wounds at this rate."
You rush over to Shiloh and hold your palms a few inches from his side.  [11]You focus carefully and mend his wounds with expert finesse.  Shiloh healed for 36.  53/56 HP.  Cyra 40% TP  "Just one more battle, if we're pressing on. I don't think we can keep up with the wounds at this rate."
"Ahh... So, shall we rest now? Or do we continue onwards?"
Zertch looks at his teammates.
"Ahh... So, shall we rest now? Or do we continue onwards?"
"The group's been doing just fine so far, but yeah. We may end up in trouble if we tackle more than we can chew, or end up taking more wounds than we can heal. And if we pick taking on only one more battle, remember we risk facing one on our way out too." Dahne pointed out, though the fact his adrenaline was high and he had been fighting just until now meant he had the face of someone who wasn't prone to stopping any time soon.

Waiting for the team to rest and get healed; depending on majority decision, advance or return.
"The group's been doing just fine so far, but yeah. We may end up in trouble if we tackle more than we can chew, or end up taking more wounds than we can heal. And if we pick taking on only one more battle, remember we risk facing one on our way out too."

With the group consensus to advance for a little while longer, you all backtrack until you reach the beginning again.  Heading West from the start, you see another door in the first passage South.  It is rather similar to the other door you found.  Perhaps it is a much more common sight here in the Labyrinth?  With your usual cautiousness you check all around for signs of danger, but lacking any evidence of such, you go through.

Inside isn't much.  It's a slight clearing, and the sun is poking through the tree cover.  It's all very pleasant, although no plethora of flowers like the other clearing.  In the center is a small plant about 1 foot tall.  It looks like it has a bulb is hidden under the ground and a single large leaf on it's stem.

((Cheezus Crust, these rolls were brutal.))
"Ughh... That hurt..."
Zertch grabs his shoulder.
"No matter... why don't you just DIE!"
Attack whichever mole attacked me.
Like a shadow you vanish, and sneak up on the mole that has wronged you.  [10]You slash the mole in the back and leap away.  Clawmole 1 takes 16 damage.
"Hold, Princess! It'll only take a moment."

Heal Bianca! Also provide morale support.
"Hold, Princess! It'll only take a moment."  [7]You cast your magic on Bianca, and she is restored to perfect condition in no time. "Keep it up!  You all are doing great!"  You're sure that your encouragement is just what everyone needed!  Bianca healed to full.

The clawmoles turn their focus on the large armored foe that's all up in their face.  [12][9]They begin a devastating onslaught on Shiloh.  Clawmole 1 deals 24 damage, Clawmole 2 deals 19 damage to Shiloh

Bianca took a step back, leaning on her good leg. On hearing the medics words she nodded, and started to get ready to strike again. "Very well, let us show these curs just what we're made of!"

Attack injured mole.
You lean back on your good leg only to realize they are both good legs.  Cyra healed the wounds no sooner than you had taken them.  [8] Using the benefits of your own magic, you deliver and enhanced blow to the weakened clawmole. Bianca deals 18 damage to Clawmole 2.
Attack Clawmole 2!
You can stand, if only just.  You focus all your energy on just holding out.  [2]You try to attack, but your sword arm won't move anymore.  It falls limply to your side, although your hand is locked gripping your sword still.  Must be muscle memory. Shiloh's arms are bound.
"This is invigorating!"

Attack!
You're loving this!  More blood, more battle, more fun!  [3]You thrust at one of the clawmoles, but it drops into a hole in the ground and dodges it.  It pops back up a moment later, not done with you all just yet.
"The die is cast, good clawmoles. I await your response."

Politely wait my turn, then shoot the strongest clawmole as dead as I can with a normal shot.
You stand by until everyone gets their shots in.  [8]Casually you aim your arbalest at a mole and deal it a grievous wound. Clawmole 1 takes 19 damage.

Bianca heals the party 7 with Royal Veil!

Shiloh hissed at the clawmoles. "Come on! Are you ssscared of the big cat? Come, prey! Come and face your predator!"

Keep Provoking!
((Most buffs last 3-5 turns, you don't need to provoke again.  Using it again would stack the duration.  Since provoke lasts 3 turns, using it on turn 1 means it would last through turn 4 and be down at the start of turn 5.  The duration of most buffs go up every couple of points as you level them.))

((Ok, I made some baseline values for party damage and some other behind the scenes stats.  This should be less painful now (for me at least :D )
Oh also, I'm going to roll for non-damaging skills as well.  But they are much more reliable than most skills, so unless you roll very high or low, it's not going to change the outcome))
"Ohh? We shall fight these, then."
Zertch attacks one of the creatures with his katana.
Back row! Attack!
The moment the clawmoles showed their faces, you were already in the process of attacking.  Repeating the flourish you were trying to do last fight, you manage to pull it off this time, to a much better effect.  You draw it from it's sheath and toss it forward.  [8]In a flash you dash past it, grabbing it again and slicing at Clawmole 3.  Clawmole takes 11 damage.

Shiloh raised his shield and smashed his sword's hilt against it to create a racket. "Attack me, you ssstupid monssstersss!"

Use Provoke!
[9]You get all up in the monsters' grill and call their mother terrible things.  They don't seem happy about that.  You brace yourself for any retaliation. Shiloh threat up!

The clawmoles aren't terribly fast, but their reactions are good.  [8]One of the clawmoles anticipated Zertch's attack, and manages to catch him with a vicious swipe. Zertch takes 18 damage.  Another clawmole clearly took offense at Shiloh's antics and scratches repeatedly at him.  [9]Shiloh deflects much of it with the shield, but takes some hits. Shiloh takes 18 damage

Still in the back; hold until someone is wounded and Heal them!
Zertch took a terrible hit and was bleeding badly.  [7]You were ready for this and suffuse his wounds with powerful healing magic.  Zertch healed to full.

Bianca heard the constant droning that the arbalist was spouting, and somehow though that she snapped. Whipping her Epee into the air, she gave a rousing shout. "The sooner we kill these, the sooner we can forget about what the Arbalist is talking about!"

Front row, attack order on front row.
You are wasting no time with this shit.  [5]"The sooner we kill these, the sooner we can forget about what the Arbalist is talking about!"  It may have seemed like a simple order to most, but it was laced with word magic passed down through many royal families.  This is the power to rule! Shiloh, Dahne, and Bianca attack up!

The last clawmole must have sensed the magic Bianca was using.  It came after her while she was busy barking orders.  [9]She is barely able to pull back as the claw attacks, but gets slashed across the legs. Bianca takes 22 damage

"At least these ones have claws." Dahne remarked as he assumed a fighting stance one again.

Front row. Attack!
You were a little disappointed at the last fight, but the promise of even greater challenges pushes you on.  You hold your shield up and bring your spear ready behind you.  When one of the clawmoles is distracted by Shiloh, you sneak an attack in.  [7]You inflict a solid wound in the mole's chest before it recoils back.  Clawmole 2 takes 17 damage.

Back row, shoot Clawmole... 3! With Heavy Shot!

"Ah, moles! In wonderful colors, no less! Greetings, moles. I am Maximus K. Mackay. You may not have heard of me - I am far better known in my hometown, which is to say I am known to a minor degree rather than completely unknown! Why, I [...]!"

Make sure to exposit richly beforehand.
You clear your throat and introduce yourself to the enemies.  You need to make sure that they will never forget THE Maximus K. Mackay.  You get partway through your exposition, but are a little insulted when they aren't as patient with you as you are with them.  You casually load your arbalest with one of your special rounds.  'This should pack a punch to match their rudeness.'  You think to yourself and fire at the rightmost clawmole.  [10]You blast it away like it was tissue paper.  Terribly good shot! Clawmole 3 takes 31 damage and dies!

Turn 2

"Ah, good thinking! Let us move quickly now!"

Back to the start!
Cyra was glad the methods of storage were simple. She carried the chest without any discomfort and looked at the rest.

"So we have everything we need, right? Let's go and return."

Return!
Dahne stared at the medic as she did what what what? "...Sorcery."

Backtrack and let us try the other path.
Cyra checked the flowers they had gotten and remembered they needed a name. When no specific attribute came up, she pouted and nodded in defeat.

"R-right. I mean...we didn't specify an exact time to return anyway. And the amount of treasure awaiting us would be-...we've a chest. Right. Riiight."

ONWARDS! Most likely behind Shiloh and Dahne and the rest.
"Fine. We will go forward."
Zertch follows the others.
Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)

You take your spoils and head South, down the long corridor back towards your entrance to the Labyrinth.  You pause when something is amiss.  Fresh trails of dirt cross the path.  There is an ominous feeling of being watched.  Drawing you weapons, you look all around for the monsters lying in wait.  Not to disappoint, a trio of moles with long razor sharp claws jump out of the trees.  The clawmoles have an orange-brown torso, blending into a purple hued lower half.  Their eyes are bright yellow.  They charge and attack!

"Sadly, not a mimic. Ah well. Perhaps next time, yes? Let us not lose hope."

Look around. Where are we, and where can we go from here?
Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)
You went up the corridor on the right side and made the turn left, and then south.  The dead end with the chest was right there.  As far as you can tell, you need to backtrack to the start and head in the other direction.

"Sadly, not a mimic. Ah well. Perhaps next time, yes? Let us not lose hope."
"Why should we lose hope? This is a good thing! We've a free chest!"

LOOT THE CHEST.
You, ah, er... take the chest.  It's a little bulky and would occupy your arms as you explore.  But why carry it when you have a chest to store things in!  You put the chest in the chest and free yourself of that burden.  This is truly the beginning of an epic chest collection.  You grin, cross your arms and nod, quite pleased with yourself.

((This is a serious game, I swear!))

Cyra looked at the chest for quite some time.

"Strange, who would leave a really well-made container lying around like that?" she says as Dahne pokes it with his spear.

"It's a waste of a chest, I mean. Try opening it perhaps? Unless the hinges are rusted or its too heavy, judging by the environment."
You ruminate on the chest and are more concerned about the chest itself than the possibility of loot within.  [8]It's just such a shame that someone could leave it here.  It's a little dirty for sure, but it could have looked nice once in someone's home.

((I've been at my workplace for a few hours now, so no map for me. I can't see the images.))

"Sure."

Try to open the chest's lid with the spear.
You stand back and reach with your spear, like the chest could explode at any moment.  The clasp pops open without too much difficulty and you throw the top open.  [7]To your great disappointment, it does not explode.  Inside are a pair of identical glass lenses.  They are completely round and bound in a thin band of metal.  They look more like monocles than lenses for a pair of glasses.  Otherwise they are unassuming and plain.

"You'd think that someone would've already looted it by now.."
[9]You wonder about the strange circumstances surrounding the chest, but chock it off to just being lucky.

"The natural sort of trap." Dahne observed before moving on.

Advance, using the tried and proven method of spear-poking to check for traps.
You cautiously advance West around the corner, diligently prodding the ground and the trees for traps.  The ground is mostly dirt and grass with a scattering of leaves all around, what you would expect in a forest.  Although you don't find any traps, you find something unexpected.  Tucked away in this dead end is a small chest.  It's partially embedded in the ground, but the lid is wholly accessible.  It doesn't even look locked, just a metal clasp keeping it shut.  You poke everything with your spear, but nothing happens.

((I can't update the map right now, but it just made a short turn around the corner to a dead end.))

"Ah! I have a feeling there is more than meets the eye here!"

Check the nearest alcove for secret doors and invisible predators!
[?]You poke and feel your way around the area, but it does not divulge it's secrets.  Checking all around you do not see the invisible predators.  Those bastards!

"If this is a trap, then it's strangest kind I've ever seen."

Poke the boot with the weighted end of the spear's haft. If nothing happens, nudge it out of the alcove and watch results.
You poke the boot with your spear and nothing seems to happen.  As you start moving it, a little green snake slithers out into the grass and goes away.  You must have disturbed it's nap.  Feeling better now that the boot is snake-free, you pick it up and find 10 En in it.  Free money is best money.

"Maybe its on a trap. Ooooor, maybe someone just...left a boot in a hurry? T'would be sad to discard such a nice article of clothing."

Check the ceiling and other areas of the room. Probably admire it, but guess as to why someone would leave a boot here.
The ceiling is a crisscrossing of branches and openings where light can get through.  This has been the case in most of the Labyrinth you've been through so far. [10]As for the boot, someone probably just lost it, running from monsters or worse yet, died and this is all that is left.  It's kind of sad either way.

((Shift to Take, then. More on the idea of how or who my character is revolves more on botany and plantlore than knowledge of wood..cutting and all. Thanks! ._.))
((Haha, yea that's fine.  Chop is a little more than woodcutting, but Take is more fitting for you :3  I'll probably also make it count as a bonus to knowledge of plants as well.  So you are more likely to know what will kill you and what will save your life  ;) ))
((As it is, I'm frantically trying to figure everything out for this game.  Things to happen, systems, mechanics, all while trying to keep the game going and writing detailed and interesting posts.  It's rough, I never doubted it wouldn't be, but I have to give it my all!))

((I meant that you can change chop to take if you want.  Even though medic doesn't have it in the source game.  It's not going to matter much one way or another, so if you want it for thematic purposes, you can take "take" instead of "chop".  Or not!  Like I said, you don't need the skill to collect stuff, but I will make it worth the point(s) if you do.))

"Well! Time to steal flowers!"

Steal flowers. All the cooler-looking ones, preferably. Share the bounty! And then leave with the others.
"I suppose it is."
Zertch searches for any flowers that might be poisonous and/or dangerous.
You both pick flowers like little girls, each of you taking what you think meets your specifications.  The clearing is looking a little sparse, it may take a while to regrow.

"I didn't overhear what we're specifically looking for however--beware of any poisonous or exotic flora. Leave the three-leafed plants alone. Or at least touch it with minimal skin contact."

Cyra checked around the room she was in before deciding to return to the rest, and peek in the next room unexplored.
The room you are in is a small clearing with some patches of flowers.  There is only one exit, the wooden door to the east.  After that last fight, you see the woods around you in a different light.  A brief flicker of movement, a rustling in the leaves.  Nowhere feels truly safe anymore.  At least all seems calm at the moment.

Everyone makes their way east past the fork in the path.  The path bends north and a long corridor follows.  It turns again at the end, but there are a couple alcoves along the way.  The first one seems to be empty, but in the other one there is a... boot?

Lying flat on the ground is a tall leather boot.  It's a little worse for wear, and had probably been lying there for a while.
