DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Getting ambushes but no sieges

Just a guess, but if caravans are taking forever, it might also take a full-blown siege army a long while to get to you, too.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Strange Name/description of megabeasts
« on: August 31, 2012, 08:42:41 pm »
Meet the three beasts that lurk beneath my castle. A towering squirrel made of steam, a frog with lidless eyes and wings and an eyeless thrush with antennae.

OMG the frog is so happy!

I had a dorf get possessed and make a gold scepter (bah!) worth 180k (yay!) named Something something the Beards of Excellence today.  Just by virtue of it having "Beards" in the name I declare it win.

My fort is sitting at 64 dwarves...for now.

that boot sounds pretty awesome.  Don't you just love autocorrect? :D

I had a Baron once who loved black bronze.  I had no way to make it, but fortunately he was super laid back about it.  He was constantly ecstatic.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: My first miscarriage!
« on: August 30, 2012, 04:18:32 pm »
I can confirm that trauma can bring about miscarriage, in Kobold Camp, at least.

My legendary Fisherbold and his wife, a fairly decent Axebold/Woodcutter were expecting.  He got ambushed by the pointy eared devils, and was killed.  His wife miscarried.  I imagine the same would be true of dwarves in response to emotional trauma.

Holy shit people from Blizzard must be playing Dwarf Fortress! :D

I think so, because in Alliance-controlled Menethil Harbor, there's two dwarves sitting outside a flooded in, discussing 'flooding the dining room' and 'finding carp behind the furniture for weeks!' :D

The Emancipated Sack of Elders.

It has become my new go to name - not using random names anymore!

This makes me imagine a bag full of cranky old people :D

Dear Carly McKitteh,

Im so glad you adopted me, but grabbing my hand and trying to chew my fingers while I make workshop orders, smacking the mouse while I try to draw the livings quarters to be dug out, and other..."assistance" isn't needed.  Now, if you can help me to learn minecarts, aquifers, and megaprojects, we can talk.

Love,

Your servant

Dear dorfs of Spearhonors,

No, that really isn't how that's supposed to look.  Please ignore the efforts of the giant cat (Beware her deadly cute!) to redesign the dining room.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Party Cages?
« on: August 26, 2012, 10:11:09 pm »
The King `Elvis“ Prėslī has organized a party at gold Cage.

The Captain threw a party at the fortress jail
Some minotaurs in cages there began to wail
The band was jumpin' and the place began to swing
You should've heard those gabbro guitars sing

Let's rock
Everybody, let's rock
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was playin' instruments of rock

Urist Idenonshen said to Bim Mazetree
"You're the very dwarfiest I ever did see
I'll surely throw a tantrum if you ever leave me
Here's some spores--oops! Is that a baby?"

Let's rock
Everybody, let's rock
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was dancin' in a prison of rock

Ninja'ed!

zombies?  In MY migrant wave?

Seriously, that is funny and wrong.

Poultrygeist!

Dear Urist McCarpenter,

I didn't hold much hope when all you grabbed for your mood was two hunks of wood.  But I have to say I am quite pleased with the cabinet you turned out.  It isn't worth much--3600 dwarfbux--but it's going in your room.  Please proceed to turning out awesome beds, wheelbarrows, and other useful things.  thanks!

Dear game,

Where are my shallow and deep metals as promised?  You, sir, are a liar!  My dwarves normally find tons of metals within a few levels.  Not this time, it's all flux (how you taunt me so!), cobaltite, diorite, and clay, and I've already dug down ten levels.  You call this frequent minerals?

I was having this issue recently, too. Fiddling with trying to finally figure out aquifers allayed a great deal of boredom for me recently.  You might ask yourself "What's something I've been afraid to learn/haven't tried yet?" and do that.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Dwarfs not drinking "non dwarfs" alcohol?
« on: August 22, 2012, 01:29:40 pm »
That happened to my partner once back when she still played.  she couldn't get them to drink the damn booze and was tired of them griping about the nasty water (I can sympathize with the dwarfs--I know water is better for me, but I'd rather have soda!) and she ragequit  after telling them they were idiots and "there's plenty of goddamned effing booze!"  Later, we figured out what had happened, too late for her fort, though.
