DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Farmer
« on: February 17, 2012, 03:25:36 pm »
A good tip is to give your farmer a single rank in a useful skill that dominates moods (moodable skill).  For example, armorsmithing.  He will quickly make it to legendary farmer either way, but now, if he does go fey, he will be a legendary armorsmith as well, instead of a legendary crap-maker.  I do this with most of my dwarves who dont have moodable skills normally, and who wont be too busy otherwise (my diagnositician for example).

I never thought of that before.  I had a farmer get a mood yesterday and turn out a donkey bone cabinet.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Collapsing a Necromancer's Tower
« on: February 17, 2012, 03:16:44 pm »
Will the tower-based undead (or at least their separated parts) be able to rise again and again (as i read in other threads that there's no end to that kind of thing), or do they need their necromancer to do so

when I fended off a Necro attack recently, nothing seemed to animate, though he had ample opportunity to do so.  I'm also not in an evil biome, but overall, from what I have seen, the answer is no.  Someone might prove me wrong, though!

« on: February 17, 2012, 03:06:01 pm »
I had a baby in my fort that lost both parents in a Necromancer attack.  The dwarves were taking good care of him, but then I forgot about him and assigned everyone to dump rocks.  You can guess the rest.

817
so if dwarves come over with injuries, I wonder if they would also bring over syndromes?

This is just a joke, but a "Friendzone Fiona" tag for certain dwarfettes causing them to go after the most disagreeable males possible while ignoring the nice forever alone guys lol.

But seriously, how about "FUUUUUUUUUUU" guy?  They could have whatever tag would indicate rage.  And Troll Face Guy instead of trolls.

Elves bursting into flames isn't a bug, it's a feature.

820
Same.  Tried the usual stuff; no go.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Your Dwarf Fortress anecdote - Illustrated!
« on: February 16, 2012, 02:02:14 pm »
I have one.  My partner's fort (she was just learning to play, and had neglected food issues) had a starvation issue going on.  suddenly, the armorsmith gets a bright idea--a mood--and goes and creates a platinum boot.  I help her sort the food issue, but the best friend of Urist McMiserable dies of starvation.  All is well, but then suddenly, he goes berzerk!

He charges off after Urist McAwesomeArmorsmith...and beats him to death with the boot he just made.

Yup.

In the Fire Mountain (a very dwarfy name) bead catalog, they often have redline marble, onyx marble, etc cut into beads and cabs.  So when I saw that one can use mundane stones to be gems, there was much rejoicing :D

Thanks, Oliolli, I now don't have to worry about the impossible-to-evade banes of all fortresses.

I mostly seem to run into them when I try to embark near a river or lake.  I embarked in an area with a lot of ponds that don't dry up oinstead, because I'd forgotten to shut off the aquifers when I world genned.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What do you love / hate about DF .34 so far?
« on: February 16, 2012, 11:33:53 am »
I love the books, the kobolds' return, the unit screens, the exciting invasion I got, cutting stones as gems (even the most mundane piece of rock can be beautiful when properly cut and polished irl, and malachite and hematite are treated as jewelry stones irl too, now my dorfs can have them too.  I have hematite and magnetite coming out of my ears on the current map), I like the new critters, and I like getting to understand the military and hospitals just in time for the new version :D

I haven't tried an evil biome yet, but I like the stories because it makes me think of Dead Alive/Braindead, especially the scene in the movie where someone's innards reanimate and attack the hero.

I squeed when I saw they were back!

I also had one come during the Epic Necromancer Invasion.  My dorfs let him go.
