Some biomes don't spawn boogeymen. I have noticed in the past though that killing lots of them seems to make them less likely to attack as well.

Pathril has a iron boning knife; he'll be fine.

That's just as well; megabeasts should be on roughly the same level as one another. Being able to kill some, but not all of them is about right in my mind.

An emerald leviathan would fare no better against a bronze colossus (animals with blood, on the other hand, are screwed though it does take seven drinks out of a hydra first); the garnet golem probably would if it could avoid killing itself first. Switching to a directed dust attack would avoid that, but the current version amuses me no end.

Just so the behemoth won't get lonely:

Anyone know if just throwing sand into the fog-of-war has a chance of hitting?

I've thrown rocks at bandits before that I couldn't see and still hit them. Just fling sand in the general direction that they ran away in until you hit something.

Worse case scenario is that it passes time while still building throwing/archery skill and makes it more likely that you'll hit them when they come after you again.

And even if it would let you pass time, I don't know if I would until all of them are dead since running away from boogeymen and then resting just spawns more. Killing them all usually means that you won't see anymore until the next night.

Well, one diamond titan is rare, two is very unlikely to come, let alone together !

How many dwarves full equipped and ready to shut down ONE monster like this one ?

It really depends on how the titan goes about it; if they just stand back and spray webs, it's a lot easier for dwarves to kill it than if it actually goes on offense.

Dragonfire isn't any more effective than magma as it turns out.

Thirty Grand Master Sword/Armor/Shield dwarves with adamantine helm, breastplate, mail shirt, gauntlets, high boots, greaves, sword, and shield.
Two dwarves with similar set up but steel armor.

Vs.

Two Diamond Behemoths.

Results:

Gore - crippling injury 75% of the time upon contact (severed spine each time), 25% lethal.
Kick -  lethal 97% of time upon contact, minimum launch distance of four tiles. One dwarf survived being kicked once, but not twice.
Push - shattered bone 100% of the time upon contact.

Survivors: One uninjured Diamond Behemoth.

It probably would have been both if the first one hadn't simply spammed webs while the other was actually killing dwarves.

dragon fire is quite effective. So yeah, unkillable. Hmm, unless he walked onto a trap with 10 serrated candy discs...

The one I set on fire with magma was still burning thirty minutes later with no ill effects so they burn forever unless hit by dragonfire.

Actually, since it's based on a Forest Titan, I probably should add TRAP_AVOID. Do Titans have Natural Skill levels?

Eh, other megabeasts do and in for a penny, in for a pound.

And then this happened.

Quote from: Carnes
Unfortunately, candy bolts are worse than silver bolts because bolts deal blunt damage : /

I tried it again with steel and even platinum bolts.

The one against the steel bolts wound up falling into the water after killing two of its twenty-five attackers and is hanging around at the bottom of the river with 415 bolts stuck in its body and all of its legs shot off as well as having every body part fractured or broken. The other has 250 platinum bolts in his body and has killed twenty of the dwarves despite being in the same condition. Having a spine fractured in three places doesn't make much of a difference to either one.

Dumping one in magma just makes it walk around on fire by the way.

I would appreciate the raws for this, for scientific purposes.

I made a blue diamond elephant that shoots webs to test in the arena; I gave it size 50M and a Bronze Colossus's invulnerabilities to pain, tiring, and being stunned.

Twenty-five Grand Master Archers/Marksdwarves with 100 adamantine bolts each couldn't bring it down despite fracturing every inch of its body. At a guess, at least 2000 of those bolts actually hit it since those dwarves were all Legendary Archers in a manner of minutes.

My current world gen has a civilization called The Aqua Boots; naming a fort Suppershow seemed to be the only real option there.

That's only a good idea if the campfires don't burn out while you are asleep, which seems to be a fifty-fifty proposition at best.

You could always set up a Roach Motel to deal with it on the chance that it shows up.

A Diamond Forest Titan that spits webs might come in handy.

While on the subject of training, spend an entire evening picking up sand or rocks and throwing them. Throwing also trains Archery, which further improves accuracy with a crossbow. Maybe firing rate too.

All those wolves must be doing wonders for your Wrestling/Dodging/Armor User skills.

Of course, the only way to get any armor or more clothing in dwarf-size would be to steal it from bandits.
