DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: A surprisingly elusive embark location
« on: December 03, 2009, 04:22:45 am »
Getting rid of the mountain is impossible, you cant carve away the tiles at the edge.

You can adjust savagery and volcanism in worldgen parameters. Same for glacier occurance, just lower the minimal temp, and either make the drainage high or low. Dont remember which, but its easy to find out.

I agree with the above, they have hands and should use them for weapons ;)

Also,  I theres a way to let creatures attack with their minds with BYTYPE:THOUGHT. It sounds fitting! Its just a pity you cant have that attack only a specific bodypart.

Having them have [POWER] could be interesting as well. Could that cause them to worship themselves?

Hahaha, hydras usualy dont fare so well, but thats just thats just plain pathetic. Never did a H look so sad.

I guess it received some wound that didnt kill it in worldgen, but did kill it fortress mode?

Worldgen must check bleeding out differently then fortress mode.

EDIT: This thing is genius.
[PERMITTED_JOB:HUNTLE:NAME_SUPPORT:MOUNTHIC:TREE_CITY_METAKER] the huntle takes the tree city and names it Mounthic.
[CAN_PICCOLOR:ITEM_SHIELD_BUCKLERATES_BOOTS_LOINCLOTHEFT:NOT_APPLICABLE] loincloththeft? not applicable? so no loincloth in the first place... bucklerates. yum.

EDITEDIT: kobolds should have something like this!

DF Community Games & Stories / Re: Succession Game - But with Google Wave!
« on: December 01, 2009, 03:47:03 pm »
All right, google wave works for me now.

As for map I would like some place barren, glacier would be fine but those never support any sand. So, either a dessert or a tundra might be slightly more to my liking (I like glass!).

For modding, I would like to see anything which makes the game significantly more difficult. Be it the default creatures modded to be a whole bunch stronger, or new modded creatures that are a whole bunch stronger. Vanilla DF realy is a bit easy, and thus uneventfull for a succession fort. Unless of course we set some chalenges for ourselves.

So, for chalenges, I would suggest at least:
-No savescums,
-No atomsmashing,
-No completely locking the off fort (might depend on mods. This with orcs might not work. Not past the first winter at least)
-No traps/Limited number of traps (only the actualy trap buildings)

In short, add stuff to make the game 'fun'.

As with the last two, I didnt even know what google wave is, but it sounds interesting to try it out with a game of DF succession.

So, count me in ;)

PMed you the mail adress.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: My liason is seeking new employment.
« on: November 29, 2009, 10:18:09 pm »
Well, sucky thing to happen, now you wont be able to request anything from your dwarves.

You could make him a decoration I guess, I dont think liasons ever need to eat or drink, so you basically have a zero-maintenance caged-dwarf decoration :P

Or you could commnit science and see how many times it can survive being bridgapulted.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Fey mood leads to Legendary?
« on: November 29, 2009, 04:36:27 pm »
I would argue that stone/woodcrafters ARE completely useless unless you want to make a ton of obsidian swords.

The only thing they can do is make items that I can only use to trow at merchants, however, with all the discarded clothing from dead dwarfs, goblins and kobolds, I realy dont need those. In fact, I use the trade caravans as garbage collectors that bringe me a ton of metal bars. (except for the elves. Those I drop water and magma on. Causing me to have even more garbage laying around...)

So, I usualy just draft my useless legendary as miner or soldier. Their own fault for making an artifact gabbro mug (that is only decorated with.... gabbro)

DF General Discussion / Re: [question] What is a naked mole dog?
« on: November 29, 2009, 12:47:42 pm »
Whoah, old topic. Allmost 2 years.

Pretty facinating creatures indeed though, didnt knew the naked mole dog was actualy based on anything.

Those things larger and dog-like, as well as RED, must be a freaky sight...

Note that using this makes your fortress inaccesable to all civs but your own.

Looking forward to having fun with steam in the next version... hehe, grates waterfalls and lignite bins. Fun.

Also, does, in the current version, steam actualy make dwarves happy?

Or does boiling water also generate mist?

Because that would be rtaher convenient with my current fort, my UG runs right over my main hall.

Oh god, hahaha what the hell. Thats kinda creepy even for DF standarts!

I realy wouldnt know why the heck is does that. Havnt had any of my partent dwarfs completely ignore their newborn...

Does the mother even have a sad though after the baby finally killed itself?
