Funny, my fort is quite the opposite of the poster above. Theres only 1 wild annimal left alive (some carp that got in my underground river), and about a dozen dead dwarfs. I just find that funny though, also, tallow soap rocks. Fort without incidents and death bore me rather quickly, so I just dont spend much attention at all on safety.

I think I may have killed all my annimals though, they havnt showed up for more then half a year. Do I need to kill that last carp, or did even annimals realise that my fort will get them turned into dwarven goods? Would like them to come back, need more soap and bones.

DF Suggestions / Re: Gunpowder, Cannons and Cannonballs
« on: July 06, 2009, 09:31:16 am »
I think that explosives shouldnt only appear in DF in their most primitive form, in the form of gunpower.

The weapons used could be:
The bombard.

The hand cannon.

More advanced weapons that still fall under the <1400 cutoff are:

The Ribauldequin.

The matchlock firearm.

Note that all these weapons all fire round shots, and thus do not use any form of rifling. It makes them inaccurate at best. Weapons such as bows and crossbows are still more accurate.

I just found out that water washes small creatures away a lot more quickly then larger ones, thats proly what happened. I guess my constructions are a bit unsafe... well, very unsafe I guess :P

It wasnt fish, those are all dead safe for one carp who allways stays way upstream.

My cheesemaker went down there too a while ago... he survided but couldnt even drown because the fish ate him.

... theres like 6 dead pets/stray annimals at the bottom of my waterfall.

Are they suicidal or just stupid?

I was so lucky that on my first fort with a hippo infested river that my weaponsmith sprouted an artifact longsword.

I gave it to my ultra mighty miner after I had him spar with a silver short sword for some time.

He killed more then 50 hippos on his own, untill he decided to jump in the river in an attempt to chase them.

So many hippo biscuits were eaten.

Oh how fun, my overseer got carped.

Why the blazes was he the woodcutter... oh well, he wasnt essential for the project. Sucks that he dropped my only axe in the river though. At least I have a reason to rerout it now.

Grimlocke unleashes a roar, fell and terrible!

Anyways, my dwarfs all survived my first season, and I even got some work done! Now to hope I can finish my evil plans in the remaining 19 seasons.

It should work like this.

if it doesnt, then I dont realy know. Did you make a custom ammo type?

I forsee some problems with making the quicklime products, especialy the one using volcanic ash.

Having to find a site that has limestone and clay, as well as meeting all your other preferences would be most tedious. Especialy as most people preferr to have magma; limestone rarely occurs near magma. Chances of finding such a site are very marginal.

On the other hand, it could make sedimentary rock types more interesting, giving them something igneous sites rarely have.

DF Modding / Re: Odd Results - Wooden Mechansim...

Hmm, lots of reaction made things do that. Specifying proper materials can work, but not allways.

For example, its just not possible to make logs of anything but wood. Tried metal, stone, bone, elf tallow soap and a bunch of other things, but nothing works. It just shows up as 'wood' and weights a rediculous load.

Kind of weird I think, because when I try to make metal ballista parts in the forge it says 'need metal logs'

Your tileset idea sounds like mine, I orriginally downloaded a number of sets and put them together, but was rather annoyed by those things like my cursor being up/down stairs. So right now im just making my own, focussing on every way the icons are used, rather then just the most common one.

Ill put it up somewhere when its done if you want.

Ill give competing a try, good to have a reason to build something rediculous ;D

Is changing the raws allowed in this?

Have 'fun' ;D

Also, to fully demonstrate the usefullness of z-levels to yourself, you must construct a sacrificial cat dumping tower whos base lies in the oh so amusing 'other features'. Armoks bids it.

The 'ANY' subtype works, you can even set it as material. I havnt tested it with item type, but who knows. Turning wood to stone would be a horrible pain the backside without it, unless you plan on using only tower cap wood...

Has anyone tested that reaction though?
