DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Wow, and it's not even an artifact
« on: August 10, 2009, 09:14:50 pm »
Really a pity that cooking isn't a moodable skill.

This is a stack of purring maggot roasts. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is studded with dwarven syrup and menances wih spikes of cat.

Etc.

Or milking. Artifact milk. Eheehehehe.

Imagine is artifact milk gets put into artifact food. You could start multiple forts for the express purpose of creating artifact milk, collect them as an adventurer and bring them to one of the old forts, drop them and reclaim. Then wait for a cook to get a mood.

Who, Ol' Washpot?

Thought for those bits of obsidian: Undesignate the dump order from the stone, pause the game, forbid them (this seems to disable the task needing those stones), advance one tick with ".", and dump them again. It works for me in similar situations. (Namely: Urist McUrist cancels construct building: Item obstructing site. It usually transpires that some silly twit of a dwarf has decided he's going to haul whatever it is to a stockpile, but hasn't actually gotten round to doing it yet.)

You happen to have an obsidian stockpile around? Or mason's shops usign obsidian?

What would a fish that ancient smell like, I wonder...

Dreadful, of course.

'Tis dwarfs. I have a copy of most Discworld books, so don't argue. ;D

Anyway. Trolls leave a stone statue when they die, they don't exactly crumble, just retain the same shape.

Also, a new, exceedingly rare and valuable gem, Cubes, should be modded in. Not sure how to do an Axle, though.

At a guess, it's the pits.

Yea, unfortunate side effect of breaching HFS: even walled up, they continually try to path out and kills your FPS. (Or something like that. Walled HFS kills FPS.)

Try the anvil method: Use a cave in to crush the HFS.

I just used dtil to fill up every 6/7 tile of magma in my magma forge cistern to 7/7 in an effort to regain some fps. It worked, too! 15-20 jumped to 30 or so.

Of course, since I have a really huge one, it took me 15 mins of patient clicking and typing. Ow.

DF Suggestions / Re: Additional Mechanics/Traps Wishlist

Comment: I thought of something that would be useful: giving pressure plates different sizes using the umkh keys like other stuff, so that I can rig up a corridor more easily.

Sadly, floodgates just break if there's something other than water or magma in the way. Annoying, but meh. I vote seven-segment.

I hear that the 'muddy' tag helps improve tree growth. Hence, flooding the map with magma water while the elves are on the map is a good thing.

Urgh, yes. Problem is that food gets stored in barrels, and dwarfs don't actually eat all that often.

My legendary carpenter's sole job is to constantly turn out barrels and bins.

Making lavish prepared meals helps, though: You cram more food into one stockpile space, and they usually don't go in barrels since hey tend to be in stacks larger than 15. But you definitely need dedicated food haulers or they'll rot.

They grow on muddy, constructed floors too.

Fun thought: Set up an anti-hammerer room.

A room with a lockable door with masterwork adamantine/steel sitting inside works for starters.
