So I came across a dude turned to stone in the Lost Bastille... Went up to and examined him; realized I couldn't get past to the bonfire. Go back down the stairs.
"Huh, that's weird, I don't remember these stone statues being here."
I then go outside to see what's out there/to look stuff; then go back inside.
"... There were definitely only 2 statues last time I was in here. Why are there 3"
Turn around. Turn back around.
"OH SHIT THERE ARE 4 STATUES SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT."
Go down a level. More statues. Could've sworn I saw one turn to face a different direction when I looked away as well. Nope'd the hell out of there. I've seen enough Dr Who to know where that sort of thing leads.

Poledancing economic consultants is a horrible idea, as good economic sense and paying to watch pole dancing are pretty mutually exclusive.

Yes, mlp. The fanboys and haters got aggressively obnoxious with each other, and a few got banned, and we're not supposed to talk about a children's cartoon anymore because of it.
It was actually worse than that; from what I vaguely recall, it was the breaking of forum guideline 6 that pushed it over the line from a simple thread warning to "don't ever talk about this topic again."

The weird multi-button combo for KB/M jump attacks is weird. Are you sure all those presses are required? I know that, on controller, it's "tap forward + attack", but the timing is very finicky and slightly offset, to the point where performing it in combat is unreliable at best. It would make sense that the same inputs are required in the KB/M variant, just with the same obnoxious staggering controllers suffer from.
It's actually even worse than that. The 'g' key in that combo is the 'left attack' button. So why can't you just use the mouse for that combo?

By default, the strong attack for both right and left are bound to 'double mouse right' and 'double mouse left.' "But wait," you might be thinking, "what does that have to do with a combo?"

Well here's the part where we put our pants on our heads and start tasting paste. They determine whether the mouse was pressed once or pressed twice by introducing a delay in mouse click input, to wait for the mouse to be potentially pressed again before acting upon it. Which means any attack combo involving any mouse buttons will time out and fail before the input is registered as a single mouse press. And thus the only way to pull off any combo is to ensure every button in the combo is pressed on the keyboard only. You can unbind the strong attack from the double clicks so they are set to nothing; but they still wait the time it takes to determine if the mouse was pressed twice. And if it was pressed twice while unbound, it doesn't do the single press action, it does nothing.

Every single combo that involves anything bound to the mouse. Completely broken unless you use solely the keyboard. The guard break combo (or whatever it is, I've never actually seen it) is similarly broken; though I believe it uses the 'h' key instead of 'g.'

The only real fix I've seen online is variations on these instructions to install autohotkey and macro scripts to 'rebind' the keys. When the only way to effectively rebind your controls to something useful involves installing 3rd party macro scripts, your shit is broke. We wrote better input handling code in less than a week during our spare time as university students.

The saddest 2 lines in that script are these:
~LButton::H
~RButton::G
This is literally saying "When the default mouse attack bindings are pressed, intercept the button press, and emulate a press of the default keyboard attack bindings." just to get rid of the artificial input latency.

Damn. Is it still a success if it sank?
Yeah; though suborbital rocket-boats is something they should look into.

Well, SpaceX published some video from that landing over the ocean.
"raw" version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m8H8OlJ3o8
"cleaned up" version (it's really not much better): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er66BActC4E
As far as I can tell, it's showing the last few seconds, as it fires up the engines for the final time as it landed on the ocean. Don't get your hopes up for any better quality; the craft itself wasn't able to be recovered (it sank long before the recovery craft was able to get there), so any onboard memory of the video is gone.

Huh, jump attack is super broken on the mouse & keyboard setup. Apparently to trigger it, you need to do the following:
1. Hold space to run
2. Hold 'w'
3. Hit 'f' while still holding w and space to jump
4. Release 'w'
5. Hit 'g' before you land.
Yeaaaah, good luck with that without using scripts... Especially if you needed to use the jump attack in, say, combat. Where you either need to re-position your left hand entirely, and thus give up any ability to dodge, or take your hand off the mouse entirely and give up your camera control.

I still haven't figured out any sort of defense but rolling away. :y
Started out as a knight, but immediately found I quite literally couldn't use shields to save my life.
"Right-o, enemy is attacking; time to raise shield aaand... woops, now I'm facing backwards."

So now I'm duel-wielding swords and rolling my way around. I'm so bad at this. >_>;

And yet I'm actually progressing. And here I thought this game had a name for giving you stockholm syndrome within hours if you were awful at it... The co-op for bosses I find especially silly. "Can't beat a boss? Bring a pair of overpowered, kitted out folks with twice your level and let them kill it for you! Want to learn a boss fight? Phantom into someone else's game and die without worry! Want tons of free souls? Continue phantoming in and get both souls and a free cure of hollow by winning!" Unless I'm missing some earth-shattering fact (I probably am; first time playing a dark souls game and doing it pretty much blind), it seems weird to me how well I'm actually able to do despite doing basically everything wrong.

Haha, yeah, that PAX demo was an absolute trainwreck. Features were coming in hot from every direction up until the night before. The "drop dead" time for all changes for the final presentation build was set to be around noon central; but there were just so many last minute crash fixes and changes that Plan H quickly turned into Plan A turned into "ah crap, we've run out of plans." The build system was broken; so the noon build turned into a manual build at 3PM. Though at least that sped up build time. So we pushed more crash fixes in. The launcher-patcher system was broken; so now we needed a way to get files to Boston over venue internet (which are pretty uniformly terrible at all tech venues, since everyone else is sending their last-minute files too). Around an hour or half an hour before the presentation was set to start, we finally started getting files out to them; which is why there was a massive delay before it started. Quite frankly, we were surprised they could get anything more than the powerpoint to run, let alone demo the scripted solo-map. So it could have gone (and nearly did) so much worse.

As for that other thing; yep, more or less.

Hehehe, some info about Microsoft's Cortana system on Windows Phone: http://www.polygon.com/2014/4/27/5659004/cortana-kids-windows-phone-privacy
This bit at the end is quite entertaining:
Quote
Jen Taylor, the voice of the original Cortana in Halo, supplies some voice work when the phone is questioned about Halo. For all other queries, a synthesized voiced based on Taylor's will be used.
So apparently they actually created a voice synth based on the actual voice actor from the Halo series. The fact that a core feature of one of the largest tech company's OS is a video game character, and which is intended to serve essentially the same role as said video game character... That's amazing. And why Microsoft is one of the cooler tech companies out there, despite their reputation.

Ehehehe, apparently in the Pursuer battle, you can accidentally kill the player you're supposed to be helping as a phantom. I accidentally kinda-sorta one-shotted one in the back with a ballista spike. :>

So apparently they found the mass burial site of the ET: The Extraterrestrial cartridges. http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/04/26/307178240/e-t-s-home-is-found-trove-of-atari-games-unearthed-at-landfill

From the KSP thread:

Someone recreated Pacific Rim's Gypsy Danger to-scale in KSP. It has arm and leg controls and can more or less walk QWOP style.

Just beware the trapdoor bears. The burrowing horrors who live in the forest. They wait, motionless for hours, just under the surface of the earth. When their next meal wanders too close, they erupt forth in a shower of dirt and shrubbery, grasp their prey, and immediately pull it back down through the dirt to their underground pit...
