Na, mines unmodded.
Not sure how exactly we are supposed to submit these... But here's a link to mine, complete with the game files I used to do it.

Probably modify the timeline based on the complexity of the challenge. If this were just a normal tower competition, half a month would probably be fine. A soap tower just requires a much more complex economy and has many more bottlenecks (such as the reproduction rate of animals) which make it take immensly longer. As it is, I will complete the tower for mine in about the next hour or so, but I likely won't have time to do nearly all the details and misc extra stuff I would have liked. In additon to having a lot of free time, I am also lucky to have a computer which has been capable of running at 100fps for nearly all the time I have been building. So far I am almost 11 game years in and with 70 dwarfs and around 150 animals; doing this long of a time with a computer only capable of running that at say, 20 fps, would likely be impossible even with an inordinately large amount of free time.

Edit: Tower pretty much completed; about 4750 bars of soap used, mostly cow and horse:

Toady, for future competitions like this I would suggest announcing them 2 months in advance to give 1.5 months to complete it rather than half a month like this one. Unmodded, I'm going to cut it somewhat close despite having almost nothing else to do for a week of the competition.

I will likely attempt to create some sort of megaproject, inevitably leading to this:

Baboonanza, Codesmith, cancles Hunt Thanksgiving Turkey: interrupted by carp.

According to his forum stats, he came to the site on Dec 4... Which suggests to me he may be in a DF burnout after constant play and coding the visualizer. We should see him again sometime before January if this is the case.

Mine is slowly coming along... Unfortunately, the amount of time I'm sinking into it is causing some DF burnout.  :D

And legolord, did you designate all those buildings yourself or use some sort of mod/macro to do it? Because if you designated those yourself... Wow. After my (still only partially completed) collosseum build on a previous map, I hope to never designate another curved surface again.

I think he may actually like this game as it is. The humor seems to fit his style perfectly.

You can also zoom out all the way, putting the entire map into view; although this is impractical for playing since aside from the obvious inability to see everything, it drops FPS a huge amount. However, it does make for some nice full fort screenshots.

Mouse wheel; but I think you will need 40d16 (link is on top of page) for it to work.

I can't really help ya with tilesets though... I personally use the 16x16 one which comes with the game. I find it easy enough to see, even with my 1680x1050 19'' monitor (pixels are about 15% smaller than the average 19'' resolution of 1440).

Ya, you have to ensure your site has sand for the vials to build the alchemist shop. That or an underground pool/river so you can grow tower caps and get the random-soil-under-trees bug to make sand tiles

Skyrender... I think you may have misunderestimated my resolve. :)

Done with completely unmodded DF. And yes, that big hole it is in was completely dug out by me. Over 800 bars of soap so far. And I have probably well over 40 hours of straight DF time before the contest ends.

The two bottlenecks are animals and to a lesser extent trees. I made over 1000 lye before starting my major buchery, and there was a very visible radius around my fort entrace which was completely deforested, and this in on a map with the highest level of trees. I was down to only a handful of trees left in the corners. Since then, I more or less stopped lye production to let trees regrow. As for animals, it is best to keep a nice amount of cows, donkeys, mules, and horses, since they all have at least 4 fat/animal.

Out of my fort of 70, 35 will be idle when I have not construction/major hauling to do, with at least 2 of each workshop in the soapmaking chain; if not for the bottlenecks, I could easily be pumping out a few thousand bars of soap a year.

I have a very useful suggestion for others attemping this challenge: It seems cows have a population capacity, and when they surpass it they no longer reproduce. As far as I can tell, this cap is somewhere between 40 and 60.

We must wash away the filth of this release version and cleanse ourselves for the coming scourge (of save files)! The world shall be reborn annew with a new era of dwarves, reflecting the light with the power of a hundred mirrors (mirror sites that is)! Can a dwarf who is unclean enter into this new, glorious era? Nay! It is thus why we must cleanse the world with thousands of blocks of soap!  ;D
