Build a WoW style raid dungeon which is playable in Adventure Mode. With trash pulls (captured globins, orcs, ect). And with bosses (captured collosi, dragons, ect, in combination with traps (both the ones in the b-T panel and home built ones with pressure plates and such)). Make sure to have epic lewts drop as well via rooms which can only be accessed after the bosses go down.

Bonus points for having more than 10 boss encounters in a huge dungeon which takes hours to complete.

Extra bonus points for making multiple dungeons which are required to be done in order (via atunement items/levers).

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Rocks sooooo many rocks

Ya, it most definately all disappears at once on season change. Although if you get rid of 26k stone in one season... it may freeze for a minute (speaking from experience of course).
On my most recent project, I mined out ~40k stones, which after filling in with magma, 26k melted down. Great FPS boost btw.  ;D

To get a decent FPS boost, you need to dump at least 10k stones, but for smaller amounts d-b-d is always a good option.

The slice tool is essentially just a min and max value for which levels to show. Its fairly easy to figure out if you just play around with the sliders.

PMMMMMMMMMM

P = magma proof pumps
F = your fort
M = magma holding chamber

Step 1: set up above system of pumps and such, putting in hatches for draining back into magma chamber
Step 2: move all dwarfs out of fort
Step 3: flood entire fort with magma (entrances should be closed with floodgates at this point)
Step 4: wait until season change for magma to destroy stones
Step 5: open drainage hatches and disable pumps
Step 6: wait until magma is disipated/drained
Step 7: rebuild your newly destroyed stockpiles, buildings, bridges, doors, and just about everything else...
Step 8: enjoy your new 5 fps from getting rid of stones  ;D
Step 9: realize that to get the 5 fps you lost 15 via the moving magma  8)

Ya, WoW pretty much makes me think all dwarves have Scottish accents now.  ;D

DF Suggestions / Re: Mechanical "batteries."

Interesting idea... One thing it brings up is the idea of replacable power cores; which is essentially what this is.
Here's a quick picture for how it could work:

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Lake of blood? (Now with Map)
« on: August 12, 2009, 02:47:34 pm »
Step 1: Find a map with hippos or elephants
Step 2: Confine hippos/elephants and allow them to reproduce
Step 3: Construct a blood-letting machine with whips, scourges and liberal use of pressure plates
Step 4: Wash blood into water
Step 5: ???
Step 6: PROFIT

If you use wild animals from your map, you won't have to stun them.

Build one. Then use the power generated to pump the water back to the top. Then it will be truely dwarfy.

My latest fort is built in a huge underground cavern (which took 2 days to full excavate) which has a big pillar of stone in the center surrounded by magma in the bottom.

Still a WIP, but the overall design is more or less done. Now I just need to build up a city around it and dispose of all the hideous microcline and orthoclase...

Let's invent the wheel before we attempt the automobile, shall we? After all, we still don't even have bridges showing up.

My roofs show. When you start visualizer, check the box that asks to reveal hidden tiles and it will show them. Also note that it also shows any hidden features, so dont use it if you don't want to see those.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How did you find out about DF?
« on: August 11, 2009, 08:31:10 am »
Well, I had heard about it in PC Gamer magazine as one of the best on their list of 365 free games they did last summer. I pretty much forgot about it until I heard another mention of it on the Elemental: War of Magic forums, at which point I decided to figure out what it was and went about DLing and playing. And that is how I lost June of '09.

I have one suggestion for this visualizer: Have an option to change the texture of microcline/orthoclase/other colored rocks to granite colored (or any other grey rock for that matter). The only thing worse than a big microcline dining room is a big 3D microcline dining room... At least in dwarf fortress you are picturing your fortress in your head and so you can choose to ignore the fact that half of it is made of microcline. With visualizer it turns into bright blue and yellow fortress, really killing the otherwise awesome look of the place.

Also, if there is already a way to easily do this, someone please tell me. ;)

And if all else fails, you can make a meeting zone under the place where, coincidentally, your drawbridge happens to fall.
