DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Impossible Mood!!! SOLVED
« on: February 13, 2011, 08:52:29 pm »
Okay, so I have a dwarf that is in a fey mood.

She wants (I am not sure the order): cut gems, plant cloth, and body parts.

She likes: horn silver, aluminum, sardonyx, turtle shell, the color indigo, bolts, shields, puzzleboxes, donkeys and chimpanzees.

I have cut sardonyx gems. I have rope reed cloth, more then I could ever need. I have skulls and ivory, but not horn.

Help?

I need shell for my dwarf mood. However, there is no water anywhere on the map except the year-round frozen lakes.

Not to be pedantic, but a granite boat can and will float if constructed properly. Remember your basic buoyancy, kids. If the boat is mostly hollow it will displace a greater volume than its granite material occupies. Thusly, it will float.

As for musical instruments made of stone, an ocarina can be carefully carved from stone and will sound just fine. Though different stone types will produce slightly different resonance and 'flavor' for the sound.

The boat was probably solid. Rock instruments do exist, I agree. But most aren't solid rock with nothing else... Besides, do dwarves even know HOW to play instruments?
depending on your mods yes or no

Metal boats float, don't they. It's the same principle with stone toy boats.

And I don't see how stone instruments wouldn't work either. With string instruments I think only the frame itself is made out of stone. And with flutes and stuff, so? It still has the holes and such! Same principle as a metal instrument, just a little less shiny.
They do. But I mean, unskilled craft dwarves, I imagine, craft a solid boat. Or a solid instrument, and that was funny to me.

Aah right. Yeah, I can see that.

"Urist, what is this?"

"It's a viola Kivish, what does it look like? A good one too, made of Obsidian and everything!"

"Well, yes, but the strings-"

"Aye, what of them?"

"They're made of Obsidian as well..."

"Aye. What's your point?"
Exactly!!

DF Modding / Smelting turtles?

I need shell. I am in a freezing biome...

Is there any way to smelt turtles? Or shells? Or should I modify an animal to produce shell??

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: DF Players, Who is Armok?
« on: February 13, 2011, 05:12:06 pm »
I just want to know why he never is actually listed in game, even though his name is on the front cover (as it were)

Seriously, no dwarf I have ever seen worships him, yet they're all slaves to him. Even if we are Armok, it seems a bit weird.

This is what I mean. That's the question I was posing.

Is really productive to discuss about Armok?
Thou don't need to discuss of  Him, thou you ness to believe in Him.

It was a serious question. It is productive to know what other people think.

I think that Armok is like the god of the universe of DF, and we are using his creations to do his glory almost.

*Cough*OcarinaofTimebestZeldagame*cough*

In other news, make sure that you have undead creatures roaming outside the walls at night, a temple to the Triforce, and a stable brimming with horses in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and a bunch oflegendary-swimmer dwarves (dwarfs?) as those funny water-peoples.

Seconded*cough*

They are the "Zora", IIRC

I am not questioning. I am wondering why no dwarf has "worships Armok" on their relationships and such.

We are all Armok.
That's kinda what I was beginning to think, too.

I mean honestly, we build temples and sacrifice kittens, goblins, !!elves!! in the name of the Blood God.

I want your opinion on Armok. I also want to know if anyone has an actual answer, as well.

I just want to know why he never is actually listed in game, even though his name is on the front cover (as it were)

He used this line:

And nothing appears. (Minus the / that appears in the front, that was to make the line appear)

Within the next two years or so, you'll see at least one published fortress building game for sale, and it'll probably be around the complexity level DF had when boatmurdered was written, but with better graphics and streamlined UI and toned down violence.  It'll sell well, and people will play it for a few months, and then forget about it and move on to the next game, just like they do with everything else.

Meanwhile, DF players will be overseeing guilds within their fortress having complex political struggles over rights to resources, while treasure hunters undercover in the tavern outside the fortress will be plotting to invade it and steal back an artifact made from their leader's father's bones in some dwarf's fell mood, only to have the whole operation interrupted by an epic invasion of all the united goblin tribes, led by the dwarven king who was secretly a goblin all along but possessed a magical cloak stolen from hell itself.  All procedurally generated, randomly.

Fixed.

I agree with this statement through and through.

Your first pic isn't popping up.

1. Right click "image"-->Copy URL
2. Open new tab
3. Paste URL into address bar

Then you can see it.
I know. I did, but when I open the spoiler, nothing appears. I quoted him, and copy-pasted the URL.
