There is a brief mention of the possibility of lower levels. They are quite vague on this aspect. In the chapter you are talking about as they are passing the older tombs they say "some" of the first kings. Just as an example they never mention anything about Bran the builder. In fact the list of names they start with is about mid way through the Stark geneology, so it stands to reason that there may be lower levels. I likely will not make lower levels until I run out of map space though going horizontally because 2z levels below the crypts is the caverns which I do not intend to breach.
Good idea, especially with caverns below your tombs. (Maybe that's what dead spirits were down there...)

As to the decay of the older tombs. Only the iron swords were rusted out. This would happen in nearly any place exposed to air. Just a fun bit, in that same chapter they mention that the swords were put there to guard against the vengeful spirits of the dead kings and Eddard entertained the thought of these brutal kings roaming around down there. I wish we had ghosts in DF lol I could model this.
So! Make swords, then use them a bunch and then put them beside your coffins.

Ya I did, right beneath the first keep. The armory and guards hall border the great keep and there is a little... I guess cul de sac in between the three buildings. I put the hatch right there and the crypts are 2 z levels down. You can't see em in the screen shot but I set it up with wall:coffin:statue. It is kind of a pain to set up because you have to wait for the furniture and the body to be brought in before the wall otherwise the dwarves lock themselves in.
Smart move. The crypts were small, IIRC, but definitely wall:coffin:statue

If I remember my SoIaF correctly (during one of Ghost/Jon's dream-spirit walking and when Bran & Co. were hiding in them), the crypts have several levels of wall:coffin:statue. The lower one goes, the older the crypts are, to the point where the features have been worn off the oldest statues (from cave dust? no wind = erosion??). Kinda interesting that the First Kings of Winter were quite the experts in crypt building (bottom up) ...most people just dig deeper (top to bottom). This of course means that future expansion when the newest crypts are JUST below ground might tend towards a broadening or an increase in length. Inverted pyramid?
Yes, most likely.

Very impressive, and I've never even seen what it's based on.
It's a book series.

(Correct me if I am wrong) The books are about a monarchy. The king dies and politeness is thrown out the window as every section fights to get dominance.

Its a bit more complicated than that but that is essentially it. What I would add is that each sect was previously a kingdom in its own right before becoming one kingdom. Sorta makes the whole fight for dominance make a little more sense.
Thanks for the clearing up. I haven't read the series in a couple years... (I never finished it)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: System requirements?

(Forgive me if I am wrong, but this is sheerly observation)

DF relies much more on your RAM than anything else. There is a nice balance between your RAM and processor speed.
DF is literally moving thousands of variables between your RAM and processor. Because DF is not multithread, it does not use the multiple cores like it should. Instead of using all of them, your computer will bounce processes around when one core gets to hot. Most new computers have tri-channeled RAM, which allow for more faster movement of data to and from your RAM. That translates to faster DF.

TL;DR, a balance between RAM and processor power is necessary.

Also, I have a 6 GBs of tri-channel RAM with a i7 processor. DF runs very nicely on a 4x4 embark.

Okay, well, this downward slope of mine goes down from cavern 3. So this means...?

Neither the magma sea nor the Happy Emporium of Lyrics and Lullabies are caverns.
Don't you mean the circus and the clowns?
He does. Thanks for the help, guys.

???

It could be from cavern 1 to cavern 2, or it could be from 2 to 3.

Things going down to cavern 4 are called "magma pools." They're much different things.

Yeah, I know. I have had 4th caverns before. It was really small, but the game declared it another cavern...

I was clear cutting my third cavern, when I got this message:

"You have discovered a downward passage"

What does this mean?

I would assume you found a walkable passage from Cavern 2 to Cavern 3; it's always called a "downwards passage," even if it goes up from the location of discovery.  A passage heading down from Cavern 3 would be more... distinct.
So its a passage from cavern 2 to three?

Or potentially cavern 3 to cavern 4 (if I have one), but not to the fun stuff.

(Correct me if I am wrong) The books are about a monarchy. The king dies and politeness is thrown out the window as every section fights to get dominance. Winterfell is the keep that is the northern capital. The Eyrie is a castle that is on top of a mountain. It takes a donkey like half a day to climb to the castle, but it is so perfectly defend-able that no one has ever stormed it.

There is no way to turn off ocean waves, last time I checked, sorry.

It will effect your FPS, but if you keep your fort smallish, it won't make that much of a difference.

This is an epic idea. I hope it goes as well as planned.

I have in fact started the eirie as well but it is on the back burner as it is a real gigantic pain in the ass because of the sheer amount of landscaping that needs to be done. As a result I have not worked on it for a month at least.

I am working on magma power for the hotsprings as well as a pump system to pump this heated liquid through the walls.

I am creating winterfell at the start of A Game of Thrones. However, I will probably make the broken tower like that. Otherwise it would look tacky if I intentionally build ruins instead of letting it fall on its own.

I have modded in quite alot of creatures and races from the series as well as a completely redone noble system.
Sweet! Keep up the good work!!
