DF Gameplay Questions / Storing wood in bins.

As far as I can tell this is currently impossible, is there a way I can mod wood to make it binnable? I've just started playing this week and I'm determined to make Forest Dwarves who shun the darkness that is tunneling storage units. >_>
I'd like to store vast amounts of wood between building sprees instead of having an eternal stop & go on the construction of my dwarvish motel. I know this may seem like a stupid problem but I simply don't have enough space inside to store it there, I don't have enough wood to build a larger base, and I don't wanna store it outside because of the onslaught of invaders.
