DF Gameplay Questions / Re: The DF2010 Little Questions Thread
« on: May 13, 2011, 08:03:42 pm »
I've stopped myself from playing Dwarf Fortress until the release of the next version (with the necromancers, etc). Anyone think they have an idea when said version will be released? In the near future? Far future? The temptation to come back to play is so great, but I don't want to miss out on the features of the next update.

Hate them. They cut down on a lot of otherwise good spots, so I've since modded them out.

Neat. I'll be following this succession :)

General Discussion / Need Assistance with Valve's Steam

So! To those that have some knowledge of Steam...

Randomly when logging into my account, I found out I had a problem.

My screens are messed up. Any idea how to fix it? The Steam forums are weird, and I can't seem to figure them out, any help would be -epic-

I remember being able to click to do a few things. For example, I was able to click to designate mining spots. Now I have to use the enter key to designate. Is it still possible to click with my mouse button to do things?

Neat idea :)

It'd be a neat addition.

That'll always happen, I believe. And if I'm not mistaken, they'll actually defend you from any angry wildlife (badgers  >:(), or other invaders.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: trash outside

My problem is similar. I have a huge refuse pile several hundreds of size and it is full with goblin corpses. My craftdwarves always do totems and other bone related work to decrease the bodies on the refuse pile, but this is not useful for goblins and similar creatures. Will these skeletons disappear themselves in time or I need to grow my refuse pile indefinitely?  It is already too big for my taste.
Thanks

What I have for my fortress is a garbage vent. It's pretty much a small area in where there's a hole. This hole travels through about 100 z levels to reach a body of magma. So I designated any overstock/junk to be thrown away, dwarves march right onto my garbage pit, and then they cast said items down the hole which then travels to the bottom to poof.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Soap: An Impossible Task

I have a few floors designated to be destroyed, but no one seems interested in doing the task. What am I doing wrong?

Constructed floors flash as a green C, while the tops of constructed walls (which cannot be removed from above) flash as a red C.

So there's no way to remove the red floors?

The mission has been accomplished! I'm finally, at long last, pumping out many bars of soap. Thank you everyone.

But, I have another question now!

I have a few floors designated to be destroyed, but no one seems interested in doing the task. What am I doing wrong?

Create an Aperture-Laboratories like fortress. Staff it with odd and awesome inventions/mega projects.

Is there anyway around this bug?
Going into the raws and changing [PET_EXOTIC] to [PET].

Ninja-edit: I'm pretty sure they'll be in the creature_standart.txt file.

Will this cause any future problems, or will it flawlessly allow me to train the dragon to help me?

On that note, how good is a dragon to employ in an army?

On the topic of domesticating one, I don't think it's possible/it's highly unlikely, according to the wiki.

At this moment, getting a Dungeon master seems to be bugged, as very few to no players have ever acquired a Dungeon master. You need to get a Baron or Baroness first, say the raws.

I read that you need the Dungeon Master to tame the dragon.

Is there anyway around this bug?

I haven't touched the dragon at all, so I don't think I've tamed it. I've never tried to tame any animals :P Usually I become bored of my forts and leave them, but on this one, I actually like it and beginning to explore all sorts of new features. So If I haven't tamed it, why do they want to release it?
