General Discussion / Need Assistance with Valve's Steam
« on: May 06, 2011, 11:02:53 pm »
So! To those that have some knowledge of Steam...

Randomly when logging into my account, I found out I had a problem.

My screens are messed up. Any idea how to fix it? The Steam forums are weird, and I can't seem to figure them out, any help would be -epic-

DF Gameplay Questions / Don't you freaking dare...
« on: April 25, 2011, 09:36:29 pm »

I just encountered my first titan, which is a dragon, and after managing to snag it with a wooden cage, I moved the cage to another part of my fortress where I store other cages. Now I'm getting this message. If some idiotic dwarf were to release the thing, then I'm sure !!fun!! would ensue because the cage is in a high-activity zone. I don't want !!fun!! just yet considering this is my most successful fort.

Do I have to worry about some dwarf releasing it? If not, is there a way to stop that intimidating message from popping up?

DF Gameplay Questions / Soap: An Impossible Task
« on: April 24, 2011, 09:22:14 pm »
I just don't get it. I cannot, for the love of all that is holy, figure out soap. I have the materials for it, I have the workshops, I have the workers - and yet, I can't make any soap.

Pic showing I have fat.

Showing I have fat/tallow

When I open up the Soap Workshop menu, everything is red'd out. I click T anyways, and get the following screen.

This is the message I get.

What am I doing wrong?

DF Gameplay Questions / Hospital Question, Sections
« on: April 24, 2011, 03:47:11 pm »

I have one hospital, but I broke it up into three zones. The top zone is where everything takes place, and the zone to both the left and right are storage. Since I broke up my hospital into different 'hospitals' essentially, will it still function correctly, or do I need to more the supplies in the area of the main section (top) in where the actual doctoring takes place?

DF Suggestions / Trade Menu ~ Bins ~ Buy the Bin, T's appears on all
« on: April 23, 2011, 12:27:34 am »
Current Situation: When in the trade menu, there's an option to purchase entire bins of cloth, or only a few pieces from said bin.  If you select the entire bin, then a T is placed by 'Cloth Bin'. If you select any individual pieces of cloth, then separate T's are placed by them. This will automatically cancel the T by the main heading of 'Cloth Bin'.

Quote
Ex: Purchasing an entire bin. (You get all cloth in said bin)

Cloth Bin T
Cloth
Cloth
Cloth
Cloth
Cloth
Cloth

Quote
Ex: Purchasing individual cloth. (You get only some of the cloth, pieces you want)

Cloth Bin
Cloth
Cloth T
Cloth
Cloth T
Cloth
Cloth T

Problem: If you decide to purchase an entire cloth bin, then a T is placed by its name, but no T appears by the cloth that'll be traded with it.

Suggestion: If you decide to purchase an entire bin, then T's will automatically be placed by all the cloth that is included in the bin.

Quote
Ex: You purchase an entire bin of cloth.

Cloth Bin T
Cloth T
Cloth T
Cloth T
Cloth T
Cloth T
Cloth T

Reasoning: Although not a game changing suggestion, it's subtle and nice addition. It's allows me to quickly flip through the pages and see all what I'm getting at a quick glance. Instead of having to pause to see if I did or did not trade for that cloth (although to figure out I've already selected to trade for it, but picked to buy them all by trading for the whole bin), it lets me know what I'm trading for exactly.

This could apply to anything else that uses bins where you can buy the whole bin with its items, or individuals items from the bin.

DF Gameplay Questions / Getting Dwarves Inside,
« on: March 26, 2011, 08:38:27 am »
So at the moment, my fort is under attack by a bunch of goblins, and I don't exactly have the military to fend them off. So how do I assign all of my people from the outside to run inside? I think it has something to do with burrows, but I can't seem to figure it out, and the wiki is confusing me more than it's helping. Any help would be appreciated.

DF Gameplay Questions / Specific Material
« on: August 19, 2010, 05:44:49 pm »
Now, I'm pretty strict on having my levers be the same. Would it be possible to make an all-the-same color thing for levers? (thus out of the same material). I can't seem to find any settings for it, and spamming making them isn't producing what I want.

DF Gameplay Questions / Stockpile Transfering
« on: August 06, 2010, 04:37:29 am »
Alright say I have my main food stockpile. Now also say I want to make a little vault thing where I can run to if things gets bad in my main fort. Now if I create a second food stockpile, is there a way I can get my dwarves to fill it 100% to the max? Also, will I have to worry about my food spoiling? if so, how do I prevent it.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Finding a Quest Monster
« on: July 31, 2010, 08:28:55 pm »
Didn't know if this would go in questions since it's not about Dwarf Fortress...

Anyways! I'm having troubles finding a quest monster. Three towns have given me the same quest to kill it. And well, apparently this Snake thing is *inside* another town. Well I'm currently there but I can't find it. I've looked everywhere. I'm still a bit new to Adventurer (Huge fan of fortress mode though), but could anyone give me some tips to find it?

Other Games / Cybernations
« on: July 22, 2010, 06:25:15 pm »

There was a previous topic for Cybernations, but hey, let's breathe some new air into it!

Introduction: Just as the name suggests, it’s a game where you maintain a nation. Simple as that, just like the idea, the game is equally simple. Mechanics are straight forward and it’s very user friendly. But here comes the fun. So much branches off what would first appear to be a simplistic game. You need to arrange trade deals with foreign nations. In order to grow, you need to find unique ways to secure cash, and lots of it. So while anyone is able to be part of Cybernations, it takes some critical thinking to become a master. So Cybernations is open to all levels of thinkers.

Links:

Below is the link for the game.
http://www.cybernations.net/

Below is the link that if you follow allows my nation to get some money. (Only if you’re feeling nice Razz)
http://www.cybernations.net/default.asp?Referrer=Richard%20Eden

Starting: You’ll be given the options to customize your nation. You get to name your leader and nation. You even get to select where your nation is. Will it be in Europe, America or in the middle of some ocean? You decide. Now as your nation is created, your two national resources will be randomly generated from a list of twenty one (21) total resources. They’ll be sticking with you for the rest of the game!

But don’t worry. You can trade for other resources to boost your economy. Get special sets of resources and can get some bonus resources. There’s a total of eleven. To grow, you purchase land, infrastructure, and technology. With time you can expand your armies, fleet and navy. Perhaps one day you can colonize Mars.

But being a new nation you’re probably getting absolutely bombarded by recruitment messages. You may choose to accept their offer and join their alliance, or you can make your own choices.

Below is the link to Shinra, the alliance I’m in. We have a neat theme and there’s plenty of chances to snatch power.

DF Gameplay Questions / Alcohol Industry: Troubles w/ Barrels
« on: July 16, 2010, 05:00:51 pm »
Alright, well we all know Dwarves love alcohol. That there's a fact. But well, erm, but the beloved leader I am, I didn't exactly begin producing it for some time. I got too busy with setting up my fancy work areas 'n whatnot. Now that I have a large food industry, everyone seems to need barrels. Now this causes a problem.

I just don't seem to have enough barrels. What barrels are made are almost always taken by some other worker to be used in his industry while keeping my alcohol industry down. So, what can I do to fix this? I have two woodcraft workshops as is with a population of 50. They're set to auto make barrels Do I need more workshops?

Any help would be appeciated.

DF Gameplay Questions / Ambush!
« on: July 16, 2010, 01:16:18 am »
Well, I've had an ambush. Now it's been a bit since I've had one. I know there's a command to make your civilians take cover inside your fortress, but what's the command?

DF Gameplay Questions / Problems with Military
« on: July 03, 2010, 03:42:22 pm »
No matter the amount of wiki reading/checking about the forum, I just can't seem to understand. Sure, I've heard a lot of good things about the new system about how much freedom it gives a player, but gawd it sure is complicated to figure out. So here's my problem, pretty basic one.

I have three assigned dwarfs to my military called the 'Polished Lashes'. No matter the amount of toying I do with their options, they refuse to train or stand guard and just dump items for me.

Here's some of the settings I have.

  • I have a militia commander set as a noble.
  • There's two other dwarfs in the squad (captain making the 3rd)
    • On the Active/Training option, I have Train
    • I have a burrow right outside my main gate called 'Frontlines'. It should be used by my military to defend if need be.
      • Their schedule is set to train all year.
      • They should sleep only in the barrack at need.

So really, I need my military to begin training. I've already had one fort lost to the merciless goblins, and I don't want it to happen again.
