When I emailed one of the devs to ask if donations would help with the lag, basically he said that they have unlimited bandwidth and that the lag is due to software issues they're working on. The lag is a very large priority, second only to fixing crash bugs and unplayable-on-intel issues.
Me, I normally didn't see much lag last night. And I've seen anecdotes that a lot of the lag happens when the devs are on and they are committing software upgrades that need to roll stuff out across the databases and/or bounce a server that you're playing on (unnoticably except for it seeming to hang).
Interesting.
I only fear that their engine may be the problem, because I really never played the game smoothly.
Of course, it can only be server-side, as my computer can hold a fortress of 200 dwarves and a cat for each one....no, I mean, it can run GTAIV with no hickups.

By the way, Rift, I'm trying to make a space port there to make things easier, I will need a spacecraft fac tech, but I'll make it in the main planet.
Anyway, soon I'll be able to fix the trade route (that will also be a ferry route), with the space port.
All we need is tech and citizens. And I just set my NPC ship to abduct citizens on Vb, since it's overpopulated anyways.
