After a first play session that lasted the whole day, I must say..this game is damn hard to let go of.  :P

As we all said before, there's a lot of sillyness, a lot of repetition, and so many things that could/should/need to be fixed or added.
But hey, I had a lot of fun. And even playing on low, there's a lot of beautiful moments that you suddenly notice you're on.
And thanks god for sprint hopping.

Be sure to let me know about any graphic tricks and FOV you find. My GPU can run it fine on low, I think after the initial patch battery it might be playable on low without too much annoyances.
The only bizarre stuff I've encountered by playing below min spec is that when you use beacons and stuff, when that thing where the camera goes high into the sky happens, the planet turns invisible and only some plants are visible..its pretty weird, but alright.

As I said, I'm aware I'm using third party stuff, so I can't complain. The right course of action would be to refund it and wait for patches, and getting a better card. But I don't care. LONG LIVE 3+ YEAR OLD CARDS!

So, it didn't take long for people to use third-party programs and API to workaround the game's need for full OpenGL 4.5.
Here's the fix/workaround for the white screen [initialization] crash on reddit.

Right now, I just entered the game, went past the crashing screen, walked around for a minute and tweaked the configurations.
I'm not sure how much FPS I'm getting on a HD 6850, but it seemed playable..but I think the 1GB VRAM available will cause me way more issues than the OpenGL check override.
I'm fully expecting to be unable to play eventually, but at least I get to try it out by myself for a bit.

Well..I have two friends that are ready to refund and are asking me if they should do it. Myself, I am still waiting for confirmation on the older ATI cards thing. I never had issues with any games before with it, and they magically adding the minimum ATI card on the release day (I think?) didn't really get any points with me.

Totalbiscuit video also helped me chill with it.
I've watched my friend's streams and ran the game on 2 FPS on an older notebook (with a nvidia card) and the engine issue where the FPS is synced up with everything else annoys me, so I might just refund and check it out in a few months.

And no matter how you put it, they screwed up the launch badly. It's not possible they were unaware of the glaring issues, so I guess they ran out of delays and Sony just said "do it".
I guess that's why Sean was so determined about free patches and content updates.

Sean tweeted about this thread on steam forums, about support and bug fixing and stuff.
Still no definitive answer if people with older ATI cards will get a chance to play, but they are scrambling to fix the stuff.
If they say the game's not gonna be compatible with my current card, refund it is.  ::)

411
Well..I'm waiting for a statement wether they'll make the game compatible with older ATI cards or not. Otherwise I'll have to ask for refund and play it in a few months once I change my card.

I think launch crashes, other than the dumb redist crash a lot of people got, is really incompatibility with a ton of ATI hardware on their side.
I knew I should've switched to Nvidia as fast as possible.  ::)

Hopefully they fix their compatibility stuff, because there's a TON of people like me that didn't even get into the game. If they suddenly switch their minimum specs, that'll be an asshole move.
The folks from Planet Explorers did something like that - after a lot of people bought and complained about performance issues, they suddenly revealed you needed cards that could support certain technologies, and that wasn't going to change - but barely anyone noticed and they don't get a lot of attention anyway.  :P

E: Just noticed that if I launch the game, my AMD Control Center thing crashes and won't open until a restart. Woa.

413
Well, I too am getting The Crash.

Do you have an ATI Card? As usual, I've only seen ATI folks talking about the opening crash.

414
Crash during launch. Twice, after the logo.

That was a light one. I've seen people calling stars 'galaxies', and a particular streamer girl called a planet a galaxy..couldn't watch for more than 2 minutes.
"I know it's a planet but I call it a galaxy heehee" oh my god

416
Everyone install the game. Now.
Let's spread the name of they mighty Toad throughout this whole weirdly-shaped virtual galaxy.

E: Damn, I might not even get to try it before heading out. Almost 30m to download it.  ::)

417
Apologies.  ::)

418
Stop with the marketing talk. Stop with the time conversion techniques.
We're finally getting our hands on the game after the console peasants duplicated items and exploited the game as much as they could just they could pretend they are good at videogames.
Rejoice.  :P

419
Hmm I'm pretty sure the game is supposed to launch in the next hour. Unless I can't arithmetic anymore.  :P

420
Okay so that RPS first impressions article actually makes me want to try the game. Fuck. I was enjoying hating it a bit. :-)

Bahaha, got one!

I've also looked around on a few comments and it's hilarious. A lot of people asking things like, "So, did they fail?".
I mean..that's the kind of question I'll keep asking on the next Chucklefish or Keen Software House projects. Guess people are new to the hate game.  :P
