Try setting the minimum and maximum temperatures really low.

Be careful not to go too low or your dwarves will find themselves facing the coldest temperatures found in antarctica... or deep space....

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Multiple Floodgates on a single lever?
« on: June 23, 2009, 05:38:58 am »
Try deconstructing the lever and reconnecting to the out of sync floodgates, pull to sync it, deconstruct that lever, then reconnect again.

It requires more work, I know, but it should fix it.

I did do that out of sync thing when I accidentially connected a floodgate to another lever. It just took some switch toggling to fix though.

I don't really care much for veins of ore or whatever that cross through the rooms I make. Unless it's a particularily valuable ore like iron, I'll try to relocate a bit. As far as the bedroom areas, I just leave it as is and if I'm desperate for some particular ore or whatever, I can always scavenge it from there and create new bedrooms.

Seriously though, some stuff like Microcline and Alunite are so common that they are unavoidable (although getting the 'you have hit alunite!' alot does get annoying along with the screen jump).

I don't have OCD anyway.......

They are probably in shallow water (enough to not drown), but can't get out. At least that's what it seems like.

Sounds more like a case of dwarven stupidity to me.

Not sure what was with the hunter though.

Yea, now we just need to use it in applications OTHER than moving magma/water around and occasionally for mills.

I wonder if it will work if we use a waterfall and harness the energy coming from there.

Is this while playing fortress mode? cool. As far as I can tell, the age of heroes tends to kast at least a thousand years, and with my fortress in the early 300s, it'll be a very long time.

You can set invasions to no in the init to be absolutely sure on that.

A pregnant mare probably wouldn't make a good warhorse (or ambush-horse for that matter), at least until the foal was weaned.

Apology accepted :), you didn't really hurt my feelings, but still didn't really like it.

Eh, I'm still right then. Wonder if Mayday did that intentionally.

I mainly didn't like the accusation that I was lying, but yea, as the saying goes, screenshots or it doesn't exist.

I edited my first post as I found the word.

I can't find Sarek in the Dwarven language file. Or any other language file, either.

Either he misspelled it (somehow), he's lying (happens a lot here), or he's using a mod that includes a few new words (developed by a star trek fan).

And yeah, first names come from language files too. Only the semi-coherent kobolds use randomly generated words.

......

I'll give you proof :P

I am using the Mayday mod, and after I post the screenshots, I'll try to search for sarek.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Edit: It's apparently the word that means echo. It may have been added by Mike Mayday.

I was still surprised to see the Star Trek reference there though.

I've noticed that the hippos will generally just run away and avoid dwarves. I tested by having my woodcutter chop a tree not far from the river where some were on the banks, when he approached, the hippos dived right into the water.

This is simply while doing nothing that would provoke them (hunting and harrass wild animals). So, I guess as long as I don't provoke them, they should be fine. I'm still keeping clear of the river, both because of the carp and because I'm not sure if getting too close to the water would provoke them.

The dwarf traders escorts did go after them, but they'll go after anything.

Edit: Spoke too soon, a rampaging male one went after a couple of immigrants.
