Other Games / Re: Brink is free this weekend on steam!

Thank you for posting this thread. I can't wait to give Brink a try.

I like the UI of the new Pip Boy promotional item.

I recommend the Privateer's Hold alternate starting dungeon. I find adventuring through a monster and pirate infested dungeon to be a bit more fun than filling out paper work. Additionally it provides some experience and a few pieces of gear to use/sell.

On a side note, I prefer Oblivion to Morrowind.

DF Modding / Re: Next release Graphic Packs?
« on: August 04, 2011, 11:40:23 am »
Depends on how much free time folks have and how quickly they can work. Its my understanding that the next update will include many new animals, so you may be seeing a lot of letters for a while.

I only have one thing to say about this...

NO.
I'm personally strongly against it.  It's intrusive.  And probably damaging.  Both to our computers and to the site's reputation.
I think you get the picture: NO!

I concur.

Other Games / Re: Diablo III and Why You Shouldn't Buy It

Big question:

Will blizzard pay you monies?

Or the money remains in the system forever?

I haven't read any articles on it, but I'm willing to bet not only you cannot take your money out of the system, but there's also taxes for using the auction house.

Its my understanding that one can withdraw the money one makes on the AH from one's battlenet account (for a fee) and credit one's online banking account. And yes, one's AH income would be something taxable.

Blizz will be charging folks three times for use of the real cash AH; there will be a listing fee on all postings (with a few free postings per week), blizz will then take a cut on successful auctions, and lastly blizz will charge a fee for withdrawing one's earnings from battlenet.

I was somewhat interested in Diablo 3 until I learned about the real cash auction house and the lack of modding. Oh well, there's always Torchlight 2!

Of course, a large portion of blizzard's fan base will be getting Diablo 3 in spite of its flaws simply because it was made by blizzard. They've conditioned their fans well. Heck, they could probably demand customers submit a kidney (for identity verification purposes or something) in order to play the game, and many of their fans would reach for a box cutter (of course, there would be lots of posts on forums like gamefaq asking what a kidney looks like!  :P ).

Other Games / Re: Zombie Games... Aren't you sick of them yet?
« on: August 02, 2011, 10:15:15 pm »
I've been noticing this trend for a good bit myself. There's one thing that has bothered me in Zombie campaigns of any media/sort. Why aren't there any zombie animals? Whether exclusively, or just as rabid and ferocious as human zombies? Let's say the local zoo or pet store just got hit by the same outbreak that has caused your town to go to hell. Zombie elephants, crocodiles, and hell, even sea creatures. Zombie mice/rats and even bugs would be especially a nightmare since there's so damn many of them. Nowhere is safe anymore, seeing as even the most innocent creature from the standard house cat to even a mosquito can infect a person into a zombie themself.

The only other game(s) that come to mind that do involve mother nature getting infected by the same problem is Parasite Eve and Resident Evil.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Took the liberty of spoilering the image in the quote.

That comic strip reminded me of a quest from World of Warcraft set in the Western Plaguelands. The player is tasked with plucking vegetables from a farm field that happen to have zombies attached to them.

Its a remix of the "I am a Dwarf and I'm digging a hole! Diggy Diggy Hole!" song Simon sometimes sings in the yogscast Minecraft videos.

Yes, there are too many zombie games being made, and they just keep coming. Its almost as if the inclination to make such tripe is spreading...  :-\

Edit: It seems that adding the word "dead" to the title of one's game and a picture of a horribly disfigured person to the cover guarantees a game will be a best seller.

About magic, I'm hoping to find a game that has magic be really customizable, sort of like in The Elder Scrolls games.
But they removed that in Skyrim.

O_O

...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm downloading the Magicka demo now, and I'll check out Total Overdose.

I'm sure someone will mod in customizable magic within the first month of skyrim's release, as it was a very nifty feature in Morrowind and Oblivion.

N+ for the PSP became very hard after a few levels.

The PC version is free.

I found Halo: Reach on legendary difficulty to be brutal.

Other Games / Re: Accessible MMO's for the newb..?
« on: July 30, 2011, 12:44:24 pm »
Its not a medieval fantasy MMO, but you may want to give City of Heroes a look. Its a super hero MMORPG where most of the missions take place in procedurally generated instances ("instance" in MMO slang refers to any place that is private... only you or your group are allowed into a particular instance) much like a dungeon crawl. Because its been out for a number of years, there's a plethora a lot of content... including user-created missions. The game is very easy to pick up and play, and instance difficulty can be adjusted should you and your group desire more or less of a challenge. The game's characterization is one of the best, especially when it comes to aesthetics. Additionally, its going F2P sometime in the autumn.

Ditto. An article I saw on tigsource about the addition of graphics support was what convinced me to give this game a shot.

Glad you're having fun!

Edit: No idea if the lazy newb pack includes it, but check out the Stonesense utility (can be found in the mod section of the forums) for an isometric graphical view of your fort.

So there I was, playing PL_Upward as a scout when I suddenly came face-to-face with a demoman whilst going over the tunnel (the one after the first checkpoint). After I fired 2 shots, the demoman promptly turned 90 degrees to his left and targe charged off the map. (Nice!  :P )

Remember, friends don't let friends drink and demoman! (This message has been brought to you by S.A.D.D. (Scouts Against Drunk Demomanning)
