That troll looks all sleek and agile. I imagined them as big hulking bastards that can easily kick down thick stone doors and that sort of thing.

That troll looks a bit fragile.

I think Dwarves with their spirit of "Lets make a city here in the middle of nowhere!" attitude might make nature simply hate their guts.

Inspiration for artwork, man.

Yeah, set them to "carry one/two rations" in their squad preferences and they will equip backpacks if available and put food in them.

So if they get hungry on duty, they eat whats in their bag rather then running off to the stockpiles.

I just suppose a 'respectable' sort of dwarf that doesn't want to get their clothes or fingernails dirty would carry a blackjack/ sap in their coat pocket. The Tax Collector carrying around a big knife or an axe or something would be weird.

We might not be thinking of the same thing...

I think it must be some sort of game-mechanic keeping Urist from spawning Armok's Incarnate.

First she was trying to screw the Philosopher, then the Duke...

Maybe she should just go for one of the other older members of her government closer her age... Stick all suitors and her in a 1x1 meeting room in an isolated floor of the fort and hope one of them gets her preganant?

If the migrant-wave theory is true, this might make it worst, since all Urist-era dwarves are already dead.

Mountain Dorf. Dwarrow, Deurgar, Demiurg. in that order.

Thats good artwork, man, in any case.

I like to think of the Dwarrow wearing Huckleberry Finn type overalls, no hat, or a straw hat, no highfalutin cloak and gnawing on a length of Longland Grass with some menacing pick-axe or axe slung over the shoulder.

The Demiurg dorf looks perfect. I almost want to re-draw him wearing an ancient and eleborate breastplate on top of his mundane clothes with that same "Hey hows life, friend?" expression.

I have this idea that the Demiurg in their isolated nowhere should like to wear a foriegn item or something very out of place with their clothing. Like Osama Bin Laden with his US Army cammo jacket, or a hobo with a 900$ wristwatch, something to suggest something mysterious about their origins or background.

I thought a Tomahawk was just the native name for an axe made with a wooden handle and a stone axe-head...

All of these ideas are on the devlogs.

I don't have the link to them, but I know they are already on the agenda. Expect to see them 2017!

Have you tried looking for it in your stocks menu?

Yeah, thats right.

Since Urist is, in game, a non-noble and nobles are supposed to arrive with consorts, eg wives, then perhaps its impossible in the game for a noble to marry, since they are generated with a consort they are married to.

With the game mechanics, once married, a dwarf will never re-marry ever again.

Hmm. That explains it. Urist should be dating outside of the royal family, methinks.

Urist's cold streak with trying to make babies with imported nobles and making no success... nobles are considered "married" by the game and since dorfs never re-marry and you must be married to make babies, this all suddenly makes sense.

It makes sense to me.

I can't imagine that all the dwarfen sex going around that Urist can't get pregnant unless one or the other is sterile. After all, this is before the time of contraceptives and condoms.

Unless Urist hit menopause or the Duke is sterile, I can't imagine a little Antichrist not being conceived back when they were bumping uglies back in that pool of blood back there.

I think maybe combining most of the rugged, harsher-living humans of the world (frost-bitten russians, sun-burnt saracens, disease-ridden peasants) we can find a form of humanity suitably grim enough for the DF world.

Well, Toady One said something to the effect of "Humans should just be exactly like humans" in game so I think dirty Germanic yeomen and balaclava-clad arabs, muscular scandavian folks with battle-axes and warriors with wooden armor and thin curved steel swords should all be possible, with any number of fantasy-realm possibilities in addition.

Well, demons can throw fireballs...

Also, I'm thinking ein might be on to something.... dull grey DOES make goblins look and seem a bit too hardcore. I'd like to see what a greenish-brown goblin looks like.

Green looks too cartoonish. Light grey looks too much like zombie-dead type nonsense.

My personal view of goblins... is that they are highly militaristic, organized and evil and they all wear military uniforms with esoteric and largely unknown little decorations pinned on the outside in no random order, as a point of pride in their society. Not so much the rag-tag look as like typically portrayed. They take trophies and make leather earrings out of humans and rings out of the femur bones of dwarfs, so a uniform covered in medals made of the folks they killed could be interesting!

I'd like to see Fault's avatar with greenish-brown skin and see what it looks like.

Alternatively, we could also think up of the different types of Goblins and make their own backgrounds.

Goblins, Hobgoblins, Maglubiyet, Bargrivyek, Khurgorbaeyag, ect...

Also, yeah, I see humans as dirty, smelly, leather-wearing europeans with sewage caked on their boots and all that. Stereotypical fantasy-era humans, although the more esoteric, balaclava-wearing middle-eastern sorts with scimitars and camels makes sense to me as well.
