Easy.

Draft him into the army and he'll run back up to the weapon stockpile to pick up the stuff. upon reaching indoor remove him from the army.

My sparring-accident-dorf with broken limbs (yellow/red) recovered after a year or two and able to wake up from the bed and resume their duty. They ends up becoming Champion anyway.

What wrong with the bridges? I favour the use of bridges in building the fort/castle since it adds more realism to the building. I make it runs across a 3 tile wide channel:

My way:

the bridges are build on solid ground and it is folded when no siege. they are connected to pressure plates and by the time of sieges it is activated by my ultimate kitten that runs all over.

I dug up a 3tile wide channel to divert the water stream away from a brook and pump it 12 z-level up into my fortress for various purposes. The channel, installed with 15 x 3 = 45 water wheels producing output of 4500 are connected to the screw pumps consuming 12 x 3 = 36 pumps x 10 = 360 + some gear assemblies & axles = about 500.

Is that overkilled?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Lowered FPS
« on: June 19, 2009, 03:49:38 am »
He wants his dwarves to have such a fast start that he basically designates the whole starting fort and then it's year two about 5 minutes later and everything is done.

Of course if there were beasties to be had it would only take about 10 seconds for your fort to crumble to defeat.

"You have found Microcline" would make the 5 minutes fort into a 1h fort  :P

I just capped my fort to 75fps and population to 80, and when the population grows, my frame rate will drops to about 40, which is still acceptable. Sieges? Down to 20.

Yuu-
In the above - no need for all those gears on Z-1.  If you channel an opening between one lower and upper pump (install the lower first, then the upper on top of it), they are "adjacent" - and adjacent pumps automatically transfer power between them.

Hmm... Gonna try it out. For safety wise I would be channeling the light green part for preventing the back flow of water is it correct?

Why do I get the feeling DF is the product of Toady One being in a Fey Mood, and he'll eventually finish it and become a Legendary Programmer?

You'll learn faster when you flood your fortress.

last but not least, connect the gear assembly to your power generator (windmill, waterwheel)

EDITED: Thank you Sutremaine for pointing out the mistake
ADDED: Z-2 level for the water wheel power generator

Use MS paint.  Go in to max Zoom.  Use the circle utility to draw a circle the number of "tiles" wide you want - one tile = 1 pixel.  That will give you the math to do it manually.

I second that.

mspaint is the best tool for aid in digging round shape in DF. Sometimes I wonder is it designed just for this purpose :P (Since I find it too amature for graphic editing)

If you find it, that's where your trade depot goes. Of course, in order to properly set it up, you will need a massive pumping operation...

nay. Should use magma to do the job.
