Hail is fine, but I'm NOT standing naked in the acid rains. There are some things you just don't expose your manhood to.

Nothing beats the feeling of having a dying character with infected wounds collapse into a bathtub full of bandages and antibiotics.

These are Dark Days indeed.
These are glorious days, when you literally bathe in your relief from suffering!  Now begins the uprising!  Now begins the fight anew!

Given that our characters never bathe, I suspect that any bathing at all would be a shock to the system. Ahh, the smells of the apocalypse.

Last time my character took meth, I had a cripplingly bad crash afterwards that required 16 hours of sleep to get rid of. May have been a drug reaction (I took something else as well), but either way I don't usually mess around with the harder drugs. Alcohol, tobacco, codeine, nicotine, and cannabis are the extent of my normal drug use within the game.

Ran into a breather. Interesting creature, giant immobile creature that just... sits there. Breathing. Until I sprayed bolts over into the nucleus to kill it.

Edit: Also, deafness should probably keep you from knowing how much noise you're making. I stepped on some kind of... sonic landmine? I dunno, it was where the breather was before I killed it.

Restarted some kind of centrifuge, which, without warning, vented the atmosphere. In a more puzzling design decision, it also meant I had to run between safe points in the path of the centrifuge to an elevator. With no oxygen. While the (somehow more vacuum durable than my SPACE SUIT!) aliens tried to kill me. The aliens weren't too bad, but the centrifuge is instant death, and I... didn't make it.

Found a nasty twofer - spitter and shocker at the same time. Paralyzed while standing in a puddle of acid. I'm in PAIIIIIIN!

In the future, I need to remember to carry some codeine on long scavenging trips.

If the shelter is near a river, you could grind survival until you can make a stone pot and use that to purify water. But yea, you really do need to hit the city within at worst a day or you'll start to suffer starvation/dehydration.

Bug: I have a morale currently of 37 (slight malus from killing a zombie child, but a much stronger positive from wine), but when I try to repair or disassemble a car it tells me my morale is too low to craft. I can craft from the '&' menu just fine though.

I usually focus more on stats than skills. Strength gives you a bonus to damage, which is always nice, and massively boosts your carrying capacity and health which is important. My current starting loadout is 12 str, 8 dex, 10 int, 11 per. I usually prefer to grab a pipe for a weapon for that nice +3 hit bonus. I take a full compliment of negative traits for the extra 12 points. The only trait I always take is Fast Healer, since it basically gives you a full health bar overnight which is extremely useful. I often take Robust Genetics and Fast Reader as well. This leaves about 4 points for skills and a profession.

With the current build, Tailor is my new favorite profession. Spend another point to start with 2 additional tailoring skill and you can craft a full set of a backpack, cargo pants, trenchcoat, and reinforce it all. Smash the windows for two sheets (which you can cut up with the scissors for 40 rags total) and disassemble the strings (into 6 inch strings, which you can further disassemble into 50 thread apiece) for the materials to craft a full set of reinforced clothing. Now you're ready.

When you get to town, lure zombies into bushes, light the bush on fire with your matches, and clobber the zombies with your pipe. It's all downhill from here.

Ok, so I got liblua5.1 installed (missing apt-get module), but now my graphics seem to be messed up. Instead of verticle and horizontal lines, I get 'q's. Is that... supposed to happen?

Edit: switched to the graphical version, works just fine.

Hmm. Apt-get has been acting up on this machine, and manual install didn't work. This is going to be... challenging.

Went back through F.E.A.R. recently. Mediocre plot, but the gameplay remains fantastic.

Been trying to get back into KotOR. Great game (though encouraging the player to not level for a long time to take advantage of Jedi levels sucks), but it takes a lot of time to get back into it, which I don't have.

On the latest Linux console build, when I try to run it I get the following error:
Error while loading shared libraries: liblua5.1.so.0: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

Edit: Same result on the graphical build.

you can make makeshift knives from scrap, I think...

Requires a rag, which requires a knife. Given that Bone Needle has been reduced to Survival 1, you're actually better off starting as bow hunter, stepping outside and shooting a few defenseless woodland animals, crafting a bone needle and loading it with disassembled strings. At one point, it's a decent decision for starting with 4 tailoring. You just need to find something sharp.

Hmm... I didn't notice the lack of a knife. I'm away from the computer I play Cata on at the moment, but I can't think of any cutting tools that you can craft from the starting resources so it probably does solve that issue. I suppose if you started with survivors turned on and managed to kill the other guy in the shelter it could be an issue, otherwise I think the lack of a knife fixes a lot of the problem. I kind of assumed you started with a pocket knife, since every profession to date has had one. My bad.
