DF Gameplay Questions / Turning off immigration
« on: June 13, 2009, 12:06:49 pm »
Alright, dear Dwarves. Today I need your help.

I spent the last few days looking for a way to turn off immigration without also turning off births. Also, I searched these forums to no avail. I want to build up a Fortress using only Dwarves born inside. Killing off immigrants is of course a possibility but it is also quite cumbersome. And as I said turning the population limit down will also prevent pregnancies.

Please help.

Not yet.
Then don't explicitly state that we do.
I apologize. English is not my first language so the expressions I used may have transferred the wrong image.

Australia?

What? I don't have no damn censorship.

Not yet. Know what is fun? Wikileaks is one of the sites that are on the proposed censorship list.

My homecountry, the glorious Republic of Germany... Decided to introduce a mandatory internet censorship, as Australia has done before. This is a severe blow against democracy in Europe, I believe. The reason for introducing a censorship system is to "battle child pornography".

However, in every other country it was introduced (Thailand, the Arabic Emirates and soon Australia)... In every single of these countries, the system was later used or planned to be used to repress the freedom of information and to get rid of unwanted political opinions. In Australia, officially a free democracy, sites of people against abortion, of homosexuals and of religious minorities will have been completely blocked for every Australian.

This is a development that is going through many of the Western countries. Many have already begun thinking about implementing a similar system. Meanwhile, a website owner's house was searched by the German police after he made leaked information about the censorship systems available. The domain he used for his website was suspended despite him having a contract for several months.

I believe this is a travesty. If you care to inform yourself at all about what might possibly happen in your country next, read this.

Thank you for reading this unnecessarily long post.

I tried growing a beard... For some reason it made everyone go "TERRORIST! YOU DID 9/11!"... I hated that period of my life.

Perhaps you should still leave both the question and your answer here, in case someone else has the same problem.

You have struck Olivine!
Miner: Alright, so it's a green stone. What do we know that is green lads?
 Other miners: ...
 Young miner: Vomit?
Miner: Alright, we just struck vomitstone.

Could also call it Gobllinstone or Gremlinstone.  ;D

Same thing, really.

I think mountainhome makes your fortresses survive.

What! It'll die too quickly then  ;)

Suffering = Pain x Time

As long as I inflict five times as much pain, it can die in a fifth of the time for the same effect.

"You have struck galena!"  ;)

More seriously, chopping a creature's limbs off one at a time to prevent it from bleeding out, collecting its severed limbs, then beating the creature so everything that's left is mangled.  Eye gouging is required, obviously.  Then you let the poor thing go because it's suffered enough.

I did that. Except I set it on fire in the end.

Could have been a bug. It was quite a few versions ago.
