Hi
I'm trying to install mods from Workshop, I've subscribed to several, but they are not appearing in game. I don't even have the MODS button in the main menu. Did anyone else encounter this problem?

The mods work on a per-world basis, as such, the 'mods' button is not on the main title screen, it is in the world generation menu.

DF Modding / Cheating in the new version?
« on: July 21, 2014, 12:34:46 pm »
So in previous versions, when I wanted to do !!science!! in dwarf mode I would mod the save so that dwarves did not need to eat, drink, or sleep, and made them super speedy.  In the new release, how would I go about doing the same?  To be honest I only got as far as realizing that [speed:0] no longer works before giving up in despair.  I am not very well versed in modding DF raws, so hopefully one of you raw magicians can help me out!  Thanks.

This topic has been moved to DF General Discussion.
I did not realize I posted in dwarf mode discussion when the topic pertains to the game as a whole.

DF General Discussion / Things I have never done in DF...
« on: July 11, 2014, 03:04:45 pm »
Hey all, I am back after a bit of a break from the game.  Some may recognise me, as I used to be quite active on these forums, but real life and videogame add ended up with me kind of ignoring DF for a while.  Anyhow, with a new version out I have played more DF in the last few days than I have in the last year it seems.  In my time playing recently, I have realised that there are a few things that I have never done in DF, and figured this would make a good topic starter for my return.  The list is small, but some of the items would probably be considered major by some peoples standards.  At any rate, here goes...

Things I have never done in Dwarf Fortress:
  • Played without some form of non ASCII tileset or graphics pack...
  • Played or even entered adventure mode...
  • Looked at legends for a world...
  • Built a wheelbarrow, minecart, or rail system...
  • Used burrows...
  • Extracted anything to make poisons or salves or even made a vial...
  • Engaged in anything related to beekeeping...
  • Built or used a siege engine (thanks for reminding me, Cyroth)

I think that about sums it up.  Just about everything else possible in dwarf mode I have done, but for whatever reason, I have never gotten around to doing anything on the list.  Some of the items I feel a little ashamed about (tilesets:cough:), but for the most part it has just been a matter simply not getting around to it.  So does anyone else have anything they have neglected to experience in DF that you want to share?

If all else fails, use the link to download a fresh copy of the ironhand graphics, unzip it, and stick it in the graphics folder.

This fixed it thanks!

urk, its the same repeating melodic line, without the nice warm sound of the mandolin.  It sounds like its being played on the world's cheapest organ.
  :-X

Pretty sure that is a classical guitar Toady is playing in the default music, and not a mandolin...

The GUI will not install Ironhand, it just leaves the default graphics in place...  The others it seems to install fine?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Question about map sizes
« on: March 07, 2012, 08:12:15 pm »
To play on a 1x1 embark you need a mod, I cant remember what its called unfortunately.  The normal smallest size is 2x2.  To play on anything large, you just need a good computer.

Whenever I see a game like this, I see another opportunity for people to be exposed to DF.  It is not like these games are in any direct competition with DF, as they are all invariably dumbed down to the point of mindless simplicity, and people who want more from a game will quite possibly be exposed to DF.

The best results are obtained by properly planning/executing your constructions with this issue in mind, simply remove situations where the issue will be a problem...

You can also change the length of the horizontal axles, so you do not need to make one for each tile, you change the orientation (s i think) and then use the appropriate keys to make it longer etc.
