Did you build the pump or the windmill first?  If you built the windmill first try removing it and building it again.  You also need to make sure that the center tile of the windmill is directly over one of the pump tiles, as the windmill only provides power through that center tile.

Funny, with 2.5 I am now getting the 'stuck on F9' problem  ;D

I am also running vista BTW, but not 64 bit

black space is off, graphics off, 640x300 window, 80x25 grid.  So no, I am not running a larger grid or anything.  I am not at home so cannot paste my init file however, sorry.

When I try to run this is generates the world then stalls after the world is finished (Enter: Accept a: Abort p: Export etc. on bottom, map and info on top) and goes no further.  It is as if the script is not able to tell that the world has finished genning.  I am using the mayday graphics pack  and a modified color scheme if that helps.

A little update... I set DF to use the default tileset and colors and the script still proceeds no further then instigating the first world generation and then goes no further.

I am not opposed to using shortcuts and such, but having to copy my save between different versions of the game (and having to deal with the catmouth crap) is just a little more work than I want to mess with in order to cheat a little.

Regardless I managed to gen a map that will do and have started over.

You could use dtil to refill the pool.  It'll take forever, but it can be done.

I cant get dtil to work on my system.  I am guessing it is either vista related or d11 related.

Then it's a bug. It sometimes happens with underground pools, too. You'll get an odd looking circular shape and then all the critters in one tile of 7/7 water.

I actually ran into an underground pool like that once but I just attributed it to the fact that it was in a hot area and the heat evaporated the pool or something (which in hindsight doesn't make much sense, but that was a while back while I was still learning the game).

Well thanks for the feedback, I will just find a different site with all the stuff I am looking for.  Its quite a shame really, other than the dry pool that site was exactly what I was looking for.

Dig down in that obsidian cap a few layers. It might still be there.

Its not a cap, thats all there is, just a 1 z level round cavern with an obsidian floor, I sunk a stair shaft all the way to the bottom of the map, no magma.

I just found a site that had a magma pool marked on the embark screen but once I got in and started poking around all I found in the place where the magma pool should have been was a 1 z level obsidian floored cave, but not a spec of magma to be seen.  I DID however receive the 'you have found a magma pool' spam, so I am sure this is the place.  The only mod I am using is molten rocks and the economic stone mod that comes with the mayday pack.  Is this just something that occasionally happens or could it be a bug from a mod?

hey guys, i REALLY hope something like this hasn't been posted before because i'm not sure what to search for and i don't feel like looking through the whole thread. im looking for a way to gen a world that has a lot of diversity. like say, very small evil good and normal areas all next to each other, kind of like a patchwork quilt. do you get the idea of what i'm talking about? i'm really not sure how to explain it.

The 'workin' set of parameters is a large world that has what you describe.  I have also been working on scaling it down to a 65x65 size world and have posted my results a bit further up this page.

I am going to guess and say that you designated the wall to be built before making the stockpiles?  When you build a wall (or anything else that requires something) you are choosing specific building materials not just saying 'grab some limestone from somewhere and build this wall'.  So if you designated the wall then made the stockpile the haulers would have completely ignored the stones you chose when setting the build orders for the walls and go find some 'free' stone to put in the stockpiles.  To alleviate this, estimate the amount of stone you are going to need and set up the stockpile before setting the build orders for the walls.

I humbly and respectfully apologize for my pomposity and surliness in my previous posts.

After reading more and spending mroe time with experimentation I now understand better how things are working (although I admit I still ave much to learn).

I see now how my parameters do generate a world with marked differences to the one I was trying to base my settings off of.
