DF Suggestions / Beards of bees

If a dwarf with legendary beekeeping skill loses his beard to an injury, he should start wearing a Beard of Bees.

Cloth and bricks? Maybe she's invented a new weapon called a "brick in a sock"?

Well, there is an option to have migrants with no labors enabled.
OP Dude, why don't you set the flag SET_LABOR_LISTS in d_init.txt to NO.
No, because that causes the even worse problem of migrants dropping equipment at the edge of the map when they arrive with equipment for labours that aren't enabled.

Has anyone had any luck getting the "magma safe" and "powder grinding receptacle" traits to work?

I'm trying to set up a job to create magma safe rock mechanisms, but when I add the "magma safe" trait to the "rock mechanism" product condition, the number of items seen by the condition becomes zero.

Also, I'm trying to set up a job to create bags when I run short of them, but adding the "powder grinding receptacle" trait to the product condition also causes the number of items seen by the condition to become zero - yet another "should have worked" solution to the problem of boxes and bags being the same item type.

You don't need steel weapons and armour to start training. In my latest fortress, I embarked with enough leather to make 6 full suits of leather armour, and I had a squad of 3 swordsdwarves training with leather armour and wooden shields and training weapons in early autumn of the first year.

Turkey hens stop laying eggs when one clutch of eggs is collected. Is there any way to make them start laying eggs again?

Utilities and 3rd Party Applications / Re: DFHack plugin embark-assistant

This is a really nice utility. I don't suppose there is a way to add volcanos/magma within a certain range of surface into it?  I miss being able to search on criteria with volcanos from the older versions of DF. Particularly I recall finding surface or near surface magma more frequently with that.
I don't remember that ever being a vanilla feature - what version was that?

Version 40d's site finder had options to select sites with a magma pool and/or a magma pipe among the few subterranean features (the only others were one underground pool, one underground river, one chasm, one bottomless pit, and HFS) that existed back then.

TO: The owner of the pair of trousers that just fell into a magma pit.

There are good places to take off your trousers and leave them on the ground, and there are bad places to take off your trousers and leave them on the ground. Can you guess which of these the bottom of a thirtyseven level magma pump stack is?

DF Suggestions / Re: Game Balance
« on: February 11, 2018, 08:27:24 pm »
I agree with all this completely, but would add one more suggestion to top them all:

For all these balance fixes, make the sensitivity raw configurable.

That way, players have the ability to rebalanced the game themselves to their liking, and allows better feedback for what optimal values would be.

A good idea, and something that's even already been done for grazing (the [GRAZE_COEFFICIENT:100] in d_init.txt), which is another feature that had well known balance problems.

So, I breached the first cavern layer, and not long after that, a human crossbowman arrived and petitioned to become a resident with intent to hunt monsters in the caverns. I suspect that breaching the caverns is what causes monster hunters to start visiting.

But I didn't make the caverns pathable - the breach is a carved fortification - and I'm not planning to make them pathable until I have an army, so it will be some time before there is any work for monster hunters. Bearing this in mind, should I deny petitions from monster hunters? Will they become frustrated and cause trouble if they become residents but there's no work for them?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: encouraging scholars to write books
« on: January 26, 2018, 11:27:05 am »
There's a bug causing book writing to stall, and I don't think it's fixed. I think it's caused by someone starting to write something, gets interrupted, and then never returns to to.

Are you sure that's a bug?

DF Suggestions / Re: no leather from poultry
« on: October 03, 2017, 02:16:33 am »
I agree 100% that leather from poultry is unrealistic. I think Dwarven culture is more likely to be one of the cultures that cooks and eats the skin along with the meat when preparing poultry.

Also, if the job the unskilled/dabbling worker is attempting is decoration, there should be a chance of damaging the base item or an existing decoration and reducing its quality, which should also be artwork destruction if said base item or decoration is a masterpiece.
