I just found out the hard way that cave-ins travel through NATURAL floors, as well as constructed ones :'(

Half my fort just traveled down 6 z levels, killing two dwarves and making my five remaining dwarves very unhappy due to losing their friends, cats, choking on dust, and being knocked out by a cave-in

When you press b it brings up the build command, and then press b again to bring up bed. It should have a list of the different material beds you have and how many of each, press x. This will show you the list of each individual bed. Scroll through and press V on them and see which ones have the highest value. Press enter on the good one and it will build your bed best fit for your noble.

If you start out on dwarf heaven, there's at least one (maybe 2).  You can catch it in a trap if you have a recruit act as bait, and he runs fast enough.

Up to six if you move it down to cover the whole chasm.

He sat in my food stockpile drinking and when I changed him to active duty he couldn't path to it D:

He was worthless for about 2 seasons before he figured it out.

2 seasons with orcs camped outside my gate mind you. Oh the job spam.

Also keep in mind that designating a stockpile over an existing stockpile doesn't overwrite it, you have to remove the original one.
