iSSH costs $10. I don't know if this little experiment is worth forking that out.

Are you going to carry around a full-size keyboard that you can hookup to your iPhone?  :-\
If I can get it running I might consider a bluetooth keyboard. Mostly I am looking for something that will work with the popup touch keyboard. It'll probably be tricky to use, but hey, that's dwarfy, right?

DF General Discussion / iPhone + dfterm2. Any success stories?
« on: September 19, 2010, 01:41:09 pm »
I recently got dfterm2 working on my home computer. My intent is to be able to play from my phone.

(If you haven't heard of dfterm2, check out this thread. )

Has anyone found a good (free?) telnet app for iPhone?
Has anyone gotten it to work with dfterm2?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Curb stomp > than weapons?

I think the current way wrestling works is that wrestlers execute holds and pins against their target. Thus 5 wrestlers + 1 weapondwarf = certain doom for any single opponent. He's just immobilized and casually hacked to bits.

Be very wary of using this tactic without the token weapondwarf. Wrestlers don't do much actual damage themselves.

Be very wary of using this tactic against a number of attackers.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Face Palm moments you had

I had a dwarf early in the life of my fortress get an unresolvable mood due to the shell problem.

Facepalm 1: He happened to be the only dwarf currently assigned a weapon.

When he went berserk a brave dog distracted him while my other dwarves got to ground inside the fortress. I hadn't built many doors yet, but eventually the lunatic found his way into a room where I could seal him in.

The moment I clicked the door locked I got a message. One of my dwarves has given birth! Well, I thought, that will conveniently keep my population steady as the berserk dwarf dies of thirst. Where do I recognize that parent's name from?

Facepalm 2: Baby locked in with murderous mother.

She hammered the poor child with her crossbow until she died of dehydration. The child survived with red wounds on all his fingers and toes and three teeth missing.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Chief Medical Dwarf
« on: June 23, 2010, 01:44:05 pm »
I can't help but chuckle every time I think about my hospital and my butcher shop being across the hall from each other.
I only designed them that way because the chief medical dwarf is the butcher...

Maybe there should be a skill synergy between those two professions. Some knowledge of anatomy connection.

Some further information on the mouse getting stuck during designation:

I am on OSX. When I enter the designation menu the keyboard freezes up, making it impossible to leave the designation menu. Also the mouse behaves as if left-click is held down, designating anywhere you point. However, returning to windowed mode and moving the mouse outside the window frees the keyboard up. It seems to also send through at least the last keyboard command entered before the mouse left the window. (It may be sending all the keystrokes through at once, but the only noticeable action is the last one sent.) When the mouse goes back into the window the keyboard freezes again. This seems to be repeatable behaviour any number of times.

Also, I haven't tried pressing f12, but clicking the middle mouse button seems to toggle between zoom-in mode and zoom-out mode. I can zoom out at first, but can't zoom in past where I started. Then after I middleclick I can zoom in but not out past where I started.

Hopefully that helps. I do have the black_space on it appears. I didn't change any init settings, just downloaded and fired it up.

Quote repaired for great justice.

so I assign half a dozen war dogs to guard him.

I seem to be limited to assigning two war dogs per stumpy. How did you assign him six?

I once embarked with a horse and a camel pulling my wagon. A little more than a year after arriving, I see a message that the camel gave birth. This confused me, since as far as I knew this was the only camel on the map. Then I looked a little closer. The announcement had used the plural form. So I checked the unit list. There were FIVE baby camels.

(Upon later speculation it's possible that some elves came through with a male camel in a cage or something. I wasn't paying strict attention. The multiple birth was still pretty surprising.)

I guess this thread is about how your dwarves have surprised you, not your animals. So let's say the dwarves impregnated the camel.

i mean, what kind of military gives people weapons straight off and tells them to go hit each other with them, with no proper training.

The same guys that think its a good idea to make magmafalls.

Sigged.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Sand land (help)
« on: July 08, 2009, 11:58:55 am »
I imagine you could mod all the stone to be sand, or have sand-like properties. I don't know a great deal about modding so you'd have to ask around about how to do it.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Swimming in Magma
« on: July 07, 2009, 02:15:58 pm »
Huh, lemme go check the raws
I think I will try to get him out of the lava before I do anything with the temp.

It's really best to leave him there. See the post above referencing magma covering. You cannot wash it off. It will light him up when the temperature is reset. If he's in the magma, he'll do no additional harm. If he's in a meeting hall full of dwarves it's gonna be a problem. If he's in the booze stockpile it's gonna be fun.

He may not immediately burn if standing in water, but I think even water won't wash off the magma coating he now has, so if he ever climbs out of the bath !!dwarf!!

Doesn't placing the furniture destroy the engraving? I thought it did. I could be wrong.

Technically, they do have such a thing as a backup mayor. It's called a Vice President.

Wait, so if I kill the mayor, Joe Biden comes and fills in until we elect a new one?
