How does one stop the game without saving? I've been wondering for a while.

DF Gameplay Questions / FPS in 2010 version
« on: April 16, 2010, 04:00:01 pm »
So, i was wondering, is the new version going to be worse with FPS than the 40d version? I want to play, but i'm not sure my laptop can handle it.

Aw man! I so want to play this but i think my comp wouldn't be able to handle it.

So hi everyone. I've made 5 forts so far, but i've usually lost them to abandoning, instead of any significant problems.

So to my question. When i got attacked by goblins, they left all their stuff outside and my dwarfs won't pick it up. How am i supposed to get all that stuff inside? Also, there are a bunch of bolts and arrows just laying around outside. I know arrows aren't useful, but my dwarfs wont pick up the bolts. I do have a stockpile for ammo and clothing/armor. and my dwarfs did move, a few pieces of clothing and then left the rest outside so whats wrong?

Another question: i have started trying to set up a military. My fort is on flat ground, so i built walls around it and fortifications around the outer wall to shoot out from (there's also a walkway behind the fortifications). When i was attacked, my marksdwarves walked to the lower level to start shooting. Is there a way to keep my dwarves on the top level?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know how to take pictures or post them. and the Texas image is only from memory, so i'm not sure if it actually looks like Texas (no offence to any texans here).

well, i suppose it's not that difficult to decifer (i just have to keep looking a lot), and i do already have a fort going... I guess i'll leave it for a while.

On an unrelated note, i just realized i have a pool of water that looks vaguley like Texas.

I tried the Mayday graphics but that would mean i have to restart my newest fort and it was going so well to. Is there some way i could move my fort into the graphics updated version?

Well, fort #! has fallen. Killed by an olmman  :P.

For the military, i did recruit my miners and my woodcutter. But they just stood there, even when the Olmman was right in fron of them.

I also remembered another question. When i tried to put in graphics, it only partially worked. My miners got the graphic, but my woodcutter and stoncrafter just became a humanoid colored blob. Also, all my items didn't change
For the character sets i got up to the point where it said on the wiki to the modify the init, unless i'm doing something else wrong.
For the graphics set, i don't know what it means  when it says to replace the /raw/graphics/example_text.txt. Can anyone tell me what this means?

I am now going to set up a new fort. Unless i have more questions of course.

Okay, I just dowloaded the game and been playing for a few hours. Let me just say, this game is awesome. Also, i really suck at it ::). It took me ages just to figure out how to dig! I also later found out i took a stonecrafter with me instead of the mason i needed.

One of my dwarfs was attacked by an Olmman, but it left him alone after a few bites so he survived. Another olmman did kill two of my dogs though. How am i supposed to get my dwarfs to attack stuff/defend themselves?

How do I make a barracks? I know i'm supposed to get a bed into a room and designate it from there, but how am i supposed to move a bed from my furniture stockpile into a room so i can do that? (this should also apply to other types of rooms i assume)

When I tried to make a mason's workshop it wouldn't be built. I'm guessing this is because i don't have a mason. I checked on the wiki and it said i needed a block to make it. is that just a suggestion or do i actually need a block, stone and wood to make a workshop?

So yah, i can't think of any more questions now. I'll probabley have some later though.

Thanks, I actually haven't even downloaded the game yet. But i want to be ready for when i start. I have read a lot of stuff though, so i'm not completley in the dark.

Also i remember something about it being hard to start a fort on flat ground because of the lack of defence, or something like that.
