"cloud storage"

This is a concept I don't get. Do any of you? Any guides on how to do it?

Life Advice / Civ 4 or Civ 5?
« on: November 17, 2012, 05:23:00 pm »
So it appears I can get Civ 4 and both its expansions for relatively cheap, or I can spend twice as much for civ 5 and it's expansion. Civ 4 seems to be an all in one thing. Whereas Civ 5 is spread across an expansion and DLC, which I don't like. Also it appears there's a "square tiles' v. hex" thing going on too.

Which would you do? Which game is the best in your opinion, why?

Life Advice / Wireless printer not printing

Wireless printer not printing

HP 8600 Officejet Pro. Wireless printer. Worked before, suddenly stopped.

Tried troubleshooting; did not work.

Shows it is receiving signal from wireless device, but will not print documents from desktop computer.

Do you guys think uninstalling it and then reinstalling it would work out? Other fix.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
Truean

Life Advice / How to fix a possible virus "ralinkregistrywriter.exe"
« on: September 25, 2012, 10:58:42 am »
So I noticed my browser was being hijacked, went into task manager and ended the process tree of "ralinkregistrywriter.exe" and only that file. Problem solved.

I know enough to know the thing is probably still floating around somewhere. Who knows where. Unfortunately there are now fake (bad) links to Malwarebytes. Can somebody give me a clean link to it/any other suggestions for avoiding this crap in the future? It isn't like I go a lot of places besides here anyhow.

Life Advice / Making a forum game RP?
« on: September 22, 2012, 09:01:21 pm »
So this is kind of an odd one, but meh.

Specifically: The question is how to make a forum game on 12 bay. I guess to keep it simple, it could be about .... beings making a new home (dwarves?) The idea being that it might be some sort of roleplay for a couple of people. Heavy on customization and RP?

Generally: I guess I just don't get the "forum game" thing. Not entirely sure how to make one the best possible (no matter what type of thing it would be). It's something I haven't done a whole lot of and I'm curious about it.

Suggestions? Ideas?

So assuming you were a dwarf, what would you want in a dwarven fortress you lived in. We're not talking just survival here, we're talking daily tasks, socialization, recreation, etc.

Think about specific tasks and interactions you'd do/have, where you'd wanna do them and what that place or those places would look like.

Basically trying to get an task oriented and activity focused profile.

Life Advice / Hulu.com's new format?
« on: August 31, 2012, 07:03:41 pm »
does anyone else seem to notice that hulu has changed formats?

http://www.hulu.com/tv

They used to have a nice alphabetical listing of shows you could watch and now there's whatever this is....

Am I missing how to get the old alphabetical directory of TV series, or is that gone?

thank you for your time.

Life Advice / Helping an aspiring writer.
« on: July 10, 2012, 02:26:55 pm »
So I appear to have met a decent writer friend (rarity of rarities).
I'm amazed there are people that read anything today. She's halfway decent at writing, but doesn't know shit about getting published or self published. I'm leaning towards self published?[sigh]

Are there places that do this sorta thing. I've heard of kickstarter, but not much else, quite honestly.

Life Advice / It broke....
« on: July 05, 2012, 09:18:02 am »
This is a thread for all those little things that break and asking how to fix them, or return them, or exchange them, or get a refund for them.

The tech things, the hardware things, the other things. Whatever.

Realize that you're asking the internet for advice and thus it's a "use at your own risk" kinda deal. There are some tech savy people running around here though.

Life Advice / Youtube freezing and no sounds from online...?
« on: June 23, 2012, 11:02:25 am »
So I understand youtube uses other programs like adobe and flash that need updated occasionally, fine.

Every time I try to play something on youtube lately there is no sound and/or it freezes. It isn't that "this sound was copyright material," thing where they disable it either. Moreover, there are no prompts saying I should update anything. It appears to be sound coming from internet applications like from Firefox that are effected. The sound on other parts of my computer is doing just fine (windows media player, etc).

As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yours truly

So, I deal with a lot of hyperlinks (internal and external) and for a variety of reasons, the hyperlinks themselves have to be redacted, but not the words. Basically it's a very old and persnickety judge I'm dealing with....

That is, there are imbedded hyperlinks in word documents, and I want to remove the hyperlinks but keep the text. I know about the "highlight, and Control + F9 thing. The issue with that, is it doesn't show the text, but only the embedded webaddress or link. I need only the text....

I know how to do this in Word 2010, but unfortunately I'm working off Word 2007.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I imagine family is a pretty big part of a dwarf's life before something horrible ends it.

I've got a fort with 186 little guys running around and no real way to tell who is related to who. Sure I can go to the units menu but then that would mean sifting through 186 different entries and cross checking to make sure....

Why do this? Housing arrangements, etc. Extended clan housing sounds dwarven to me. Unless of course there's another way to do this already and I just don't know about it.

thanks for your time,

Life Advice / So, where are the people at?
« on: June 11, 2012, 08:54:11 pm »
I'm both bored and relatively broke. I know there have to be a million regular social institutions that aren't a library, bar or night club around here, but damned if I know how to find them. Is there some website or something that leads to reliably knowing what the crap is going on with community institutions and events? I gots wills to sell and people to meet. Also I should get out of my office at some point to a place that isn't a night club (on business) or a library (on nerdier business).

I mean, I was told last week there was a free waffle breakfast at some Eagle's Club or other on Sunday, and I missed it. Let me explain this ... free waffles.

It isn't like I can put "Free waffles" into Google or something is it?

Exposition over, free waffle acquisition now.

suggestions? :P

P.S. Honestly, how the crap do people know what events are going on around them locally?
